Scotland V Aus
First topic message reminder :
It's quite simple, Scotland have the set peice to absolutely dominate. The weather is poor, and Aus have an uninspiring backline for their standards. Scotland have the beef, and the preperation, Aus have 6 debutants!
Surely this game can only go one way?

Re: Scotland V Aus
the referee could just as well have penalised almost every pick and drive from Australia there, the hammer (supporting) runner shows no intention of staying up at the point of contact

Scotland have botched 3/4 try scoring opportunities. I dread to think what the score would be like if the chances had been reversed.

More good work from Aus, but the further up field they go the further back they have to track when it's kicked 90 metre clear.

Not that many mate, you score off one, then you start back from a kick off, not ten meters out.Coleman wrote:Scotland have botched 3/4 try scoring opportunities. I dread to think what the score would be like if the chances had been reversed.

The weather is pinning Aus back in their half, I reckon they'll be much more clinical in the second-half than we've been in the first.

What's deeply worrying is that the 606 updates are more timely than both Twitter and the BBC text feed.

They're sealing off the ball at every ruck. The refs letting it happen too much now. Scotland picked two 7's to increase their chances of turning over, they might aswell not have botherd.

Peter what game are you watching. Aus are clearly struggling against a monster wind, and will blow Scotland away 2d half. I'm amazed they have any points.

If we want to win this we need a try before half-time.

Its been 5 minutes since scotland ha a scrum 5 to butcher whats going on.
Pocock wins a penalty. Pity they wont be able to kick further than 10m

If I was robinson now I'd swap both for 2 ball carriers at half time, maybe leave Rennie on as he's doing a decent amount of carrying!

Plenty of virtual for you for keeping it up.
Pretty much the entire game has been played within 30m of the aus try line. Scotland are passing more than expected but not really going anywhere. The wind and handling are stopping aus clearing their line.
Genia just missed a high ball and nearly let scotland in . Yet another scrum 5.

Scotland need to adjust tactically. Hopefully Andyboy isn’t too chuffed with the flattering scoreline.

Again first man in just seals it off totally!!! Why is this allowed to happen? And is Robinson clever enough to do it next half?

Yes scotland needed to be up by at least 10 by half time. Didnt make best use of the ball when in oz territory.
Second half oz will attack relentlessly and likely score a fair few tries.

Re: Scotland V Aus
Australia is using the double team runner as an obstruction tool at every tackle, surely this is against the law.
You must remain on your feet if ou are the hammer?
SA have lost a test match in this manner, how is this different?

The one where they kept trying to run from their own 5m line then kick into the wind from the middle of the park. Now theyve shifted to pick and drive they are currently being pushed backwards in their own half.
yes the wind isnt helping but theyve had one decent field psoition all game and came back with 3 points.
Scotland have butchered chances through poor handling. They will get smashed in the second half but regardless of the reason theyve had by far the better of the first half, ceratinly the first 30 minutes.

Re: Scotland V Aus
Oz supporters are actually in front of the ball carrier but not allowing the carrier to go behind them, technically it's ok, but Scotland need to destroy a few supporters to make them weary about doing it.
It's the breakdown thats baffling me!!!

Peter
Aus have had a perfect 1st half, they made a mistake or 2 early on, but readjusted and will hammer the Scots now. It's been a very very good Aus performance, the better set peice, and excellent defence!

Well not sure how well rated the Scottish forwards are but to me at the mo it seems the aussie pack is more than holding its own, with even a good rolling maul

Scots going to need to front up now. 100% up the jumper, 35 phase rugby needed to stay in this game.

I did like the Aus tackle the ball defence instead of the legs. I try to instill this in my teams when in wet weather and always pays dividends...

didn't look a spear at all to me Coleman, looked a good tackle, took his legs away and Ford fell over, as you would. Did you think that was a spear??

Scotland have looked rusty, out of ideas at times, I get the feeling they don't quite know what to do with so much territory.
Wales will be a whole different kettle of fish for Aus!

No not at all, I thought it was a fantastic tackle. Just a reaction to the way refs have been managing good tackles in the game for a while now.

This was a prime example of my problem with the laws. By the letter of the law, that technically was an illegal tackle and should be cited.
Of course it won't be, which proves that it is in fact not the actual law that matters, but inevitably its down to the panels opinion.

Someone said to me in the pub last night that a wet and windy day would suit Aus down to the ground. New players, all gelled by the conditions, nothing to remember but play the conditions. It takes away all preperation advantage Scotland had.
I'm going to owe that guy a pint, last night I laughed.

I think it was an attempt at humour.
Scotland's inability to score points should come back to haunt them here. Sobering to hear rthat in 25 matches of AR's reign they have been tryless in 15!
