The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Jedburgh, home of Greig Laidlaw who kicked the winning points for Scotland on Tuesday night.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of all of the June Internationals debutants hanging over the bar.

Morning all, BRING ON THE RUGBY!
Grey old morning here, but at least it's not raining.

That's OK Gibbo, if Sexton looks like he's getting remotely close we've got Aaron Cruden to come off the bench and show Johnny how to really spark a backline
(I may still be a little tipsy from last night btw )

Rum <shudder>
My boss took us to the cocktail bar at the Savoy to stat the evening. We decided we wouldn't be able to expense the 1965 MacAllen at £250 a glass, but the £20 a glass Glenmorange Finealta was rather nice.

Good first scrum from Ireland but Murray delays the put-in for no reason
Free kick and then a penalty next phase. Idiotic from Murray, idiotic.

may have overslept and missed the first 10 mins.
Still, this should be a good enough starter, for the main course in a couple of hours time....

That's NZ for you T, they've always been like that.
Same thing happened a couple of years ago when they played Wales.
First half was super close till about the 35 mins, then we made two errors, they scored two tries, and we had to spend all of the 2nd half clawing our way back. think we lost by like 3 points.
But that's all it was. 2 mistakes, 2 tries, game over.

Congrats by the way Prop! Well done on the Award...
(for later on)
Feel sorry for Ireland too. Scoreboard doesn't seem to do proper justice to Ireland but the ABs have been very clinical.

Morning all, I realise that there are much bigger distractions, but fair play to the U20 teams yesterday - Wales, outstanding, Ireland and Scotland pushing England and France all the way, England rescued by young Chiefs - as they say, tis "only Exeter"!!

I'm somewaht positive, Ireland have played pretty well overall. BOD has not been great and we've missed D'Arcy somewhat. MCFadden is getting killed in defence, Zebo is having problems but isn't getting as badly caught out.

I wouldn't say you are missing D'Arcy at all, T, some of the back moves you guys have done today are the best I've seen in ages. Time to move on from D'Arcy for good. (well at international, it's been time for like 2 years now).
Asbo - agree, the U20's tournament has been brilliant! Still over the result yesterday!

We're missing D'Arcy in defence, he is useless in attack.
Another one, BOD got caught out McF got drawn in (probably had to come in)

D'Arcy's no great shakes in defence at international level anymore.
See his error against Wales that lead to North having space to catch an off balance McFadden (who had to step in to cover D'Arcy's error) and just run through him.
For Leinster, defensively he is fab, he just doesn't have it at this level anymore. Time for Ireland to look at and stick with other options.

I'm ashamed to say I'm only just up but am decidedly wrecked. Tea, toast nurofen and watch this Ireland comeback. Actually scratch the toast lets give that an hour.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
I will prbably head out alright but will delay it to try and lift the depression. The worrying thing is while Kidney deserves some blame, I don't think a lot of this is on him. Murray has the ability for quick service, he is not showing it, I don't think Reddan is the answer but we need to try something new. Earls and Bod need to talk more, lack of communication led to a disorganised defence. Trimble should be brought in for either McFadden or Zebo. Both got caught it in defence, McFadden seemed to struggle more.

Kiwi. Well done mate. Can't see anyone getting close to that AB side for a while. Just an awesome conveyor belt of talent.
We had a few brave warriors out there but really too many players who aren't International standard. All the coaching in the world won't change that.

Cheers Rava. Your forwards fronted up at least, just a bit of work needed on the back line.
Watching Savea seriously reminds me of Lomu in 95. Here's hoping he lives up to the potential.

Rava, T - agree it's not just down to coaching. Been saying it for a while but very quietly due to the whole "ah bit it's all Kidneys fault!" aggressive responses I would get. (not from you guys in here btw)
Good things to build on, despite the result. Really like your new TH. Bags of talent right there.

He needs to work on his fitness, but Adam Jones had problems with that at the start of his career (Fitz is 27 or 28 though), he can scrummage that's a start.

He's a TH that can scrummage, that's all you need. Fitness will come, so just pray he's got the right attitude to get himself in shape! Ad still struggles with his a bit (see last Autumn where Gats threatened to drop him if he didn't get below a certain weight!) but it pays back so much when he gets his fitness level right.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
No doubt Kidney is one of the things that needs to change for us to be one of the more competitive sides in world rugby again. Some of it is just the natural cyclical nature of test rugby. But Kidney isn't doing too well.
I'm not with the "It's all Kidneys fault" brigade, but there are some basic deficiencies in our coaching. Even Kidney with a different set of coaches working beneath him would be more effective, I think he's carrying the can for the flaws of some of our other coaches beneath him and the refusal of the IRFU blazers above him to address that.
Like... how have we not had a backs coach since the RWC? Most international teams have, you know, a backs coach. A guy who coaches their backs. We just say "Ah sure our defence coach can do that. Double-jobbing, no worries". Well our attacking play in the backs hasn't got better... but our defence sure has got worse!
But yeah, got to say, I think if you asked Kidney. "How do Ireland arrest this slide in our form? How do we get back to competing for a Top 4 place in the Rankings?" you'd get a cowpat answer. Because he doesn't know.

It's not attitude he struggles with it's injuries. He was out for 5 months this season for Ulster and hardly played until the Heineken Cup semi. Hard to get very match fit when you're in rehab.

Declan Fitzpatrick has always struggled with injuries so the fitness thing was always an issue. Hopefully he can keep injury free long enough to build that fitness.
I did love his little off load in one wraparound move in the first half.

Fitzpatrick had a brilliant debut....anyone see that hit on Sonny Bill in the first half? Total belter and led to a turnover...scrum was solid until he want off.
OK thats enough happy talk...feicin shambles this morning...the chickens are coming home to roost after a decade of conservatism and naval gazing from the IRFU....
Good luck Welsh friends.... hope you have a more productive morning
