The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Jedburgh, home of Greig Laidlaw who kicked the winning points for Scotland on Tuesday night.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of all of the June Internationals debutants hanging over the bar.

Biltong, congrats on your win - impressive physicality from the Boks - add some offloading to that game and it would be deadly. Commiserations to the England fans - a little more creativity at 10 and I think you could trouble the Boks. Thought TJ had an excellent first half but seemed to run out of a little bit of gas towards the end

Thanks ASBO, I stressed a bit, we kept missing kicks and I had flashbacks to the Lions tests in '97, we kept scoring tries and kept missing kicks, lost that test 15-18, but scored 3 tries to 0

Ja, I had the same problem with JJ de Astra. Cost 900. Last service cost = 300(new windscreen, repaired uitlaat and go-faster stripes). It was touch and go.
Not sure JJ will make Chefs Bash. We vil see.
What about those arrogant Clogs eh? Need to wake up v Deutchland.
This should be a good game. Not sure what result I want. A draw maybe. But I think Germany have too much for Portugal.

I'm cheering myself up with watching the highlights (I recorded it off Sky, as it was on at 01:00 last night) of Wales U20 9 NZ U20 6

Fair play to SA, we were monstered for the first 20 minutes of the second half. I could see that coming from the Boks at ht. Simple rugby, keep the ball and force your opponent to make tackle after tackle.
A daft scrum offense by Johnson gave the momentum to SA going into ht. Hopefully he'll learn. And Farrell is not an international class 10. England looked much more threatening with Flood on.

I tink I'll cycle down. Will head off soon. Might make it by August.

I'm really really good ta Penfro. Just sipping a lovely Crabbies Ginger Beer and about to eat some rhubarb crumble I made earlier. Might be meeting up with one of my best mates tomorrow too, so a good weekend.
The only thing that's a pain is getting used to sharing my bed with my cat again! She refused point blank to sleep anywhere then on my feet last night, even when I kicked her off a couple of times she just jumped straight back on purring. Stupid cat she is
It was weird watching a Wales game back here though and not being in Cardiff, I really did miss it a bit this morning, and it would have been so nice to meet up with you lot. Hope you all had a good time?

Happy for you bud. I know you were concerned about the weather. Good comes to good.
Gomez just scores for Deutchland. 1-0. Id rather they won than Portugal. We dont need to meet a beaten Germany on Weds. Not a great game.

Also watching highlights of the Wales match. Not sure why i'm doing it to myself!

Nice one Gibbo, any stand out performances on show?
Hmm I thought they were highlights, but you know it could be the whole match they're showing on S4C.

Dreamer I think you did fairly well today against a very determined Aus who were obviously embarrassed after the defeat by the Jocks.
They had some of the best performers of the weekend in their team. I think you can take a game in the series if you can get the injured sorted. Any news on the centre (Williams?) who got the bang on his face?

The usual Rav. They got arrogant and believed that game was theirs by right. 29 shots on goal, complete domination and not a sniff.
I reckon we will beat Germany on Weds now. Now we have to like. They are not all that.
It will focus minds. Even a draw may do, but we cant lose.
Deutchland win an awful game 1-0.

When I saw him lying with the blood coming from his mouth I thought he had broken a jaw or something. He might just have a headache in the morning.
Germans won <yawn>
Why do teams like Portugal who have so many great players play the way they did? Playing for a draw from the off.

Gibbo I honestly think the time has come in these tournaments to award points only for winning. The draw should be taken out of the equation altogether.

Thats a very interesting suggestion. It would stop a lot of this drivel.
Who remembers Austria v West Germany in the WC way back? They both only needed a draw to go through. They ended up passing the ball to each other. It was scandalous.
Nederland were denied 2 defo pens. Blatant handballs in the box. Ah well, they shouldnt have needed it.
The EC has always been like this in the pool games, as long as I have been watching them. It sorts itself out in the knockouts.
Why are the English meeja so obsessed with this Ferdinand omission shoite? Who cares?

These championships are supposed to be a celebration of the "beautiful" game? The best teams in Europe with some of the best players and the fear of failure takes over. All the hype before hand but nothing changes.

He is really becoming a WC player. Stood head & shoulders above the rest of the Irish players. And he's only 24. A baby prop.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
Was that for my benefit pal?
You are right about Healy. He is a superstar. Our best players were in the pack. Healy, Best, Ryan and SOB. They deserved a better result and wouldn't have looked out of place in any team today. Heaslip and POM did admirably and Fitzpatrick did what was asked of him. Tuohy did OK in scrum but was anonymous outside of that.
As for the backs! I don't think any of them can be happy tonight. Too many square pegs in round holes. I feel sorry for Sexton and Kearney. They are Ireland's most exciting backs but they are stifled. Pity!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
Heaslip was poor and off the pace, you guys need to drop him. Thought your front row was very good (and after the England match, who knew I'd be typing that ) Best again was a standout. he's been your best player for well over a year now, I reckon.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
Yeah man, but Best put his body, heart and soul on the line there. Others did not. SOB was really good. Never misssed a tackle. And D Fitz should now be a full part of the Irish 22.
Earls is not a centre. McFadden is not a winger.
And we are carrying far too many workmanlike players to ever really reach the top. Its that simple. NZ really exposed that today.
And, its not Kidneys fault. It just is.
Given the right long-term development, coaching and resources, we could become the best team in the NH. But never on a World stage.
