The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Jedburgh, home of Greig Laidlaw who kicked the winning points for Scotland on Tuesday night.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of all of the June Internationals debutants hanging over the bar.

I had to beep at a woman in front of me this morning. The lights had turned green and she was just sitting there. Three times I had to tootle* her.
* - I had a scooter years ago, made by a Chinese company called Jinlun. The leaflet / instructions thing that came with it was an amusing read. My scooter was designed for 'downtown area', apparently, and it had a diagram showing me where the horn was so that I could 'tootle'.

Right guys and gals I know this is late notice but I've set up a fantasy league for euro 2012 for this pub. Google euro 2012 uefa fantasy league and click on the first link. Have your team picked before 1745 today. The code for the league is 449364-92825.

Aye gibbo I charge by the minute though so how long will you last?
If theres any mods or people in the know about you can make that a sticky or something. I don't think there's a public wide comp so feel free seriously. I'm about to go to work otherwise I would.

I've just seen a photo while clicking around in old promotional Munster images of Jerry Flannery, John Hayes, Denis Leamy, David Wallace, Alan Quinlan and Ronan O'Gara celebrating after winning the Heineken Cup.
Its so strange to think that of that group only ROG is still playing rugby

Zoe Ball's sitting in for Ken Bruce. She just played 'Virginia Plain' - only she faded it out just as Brian Eno's synthesiser bit started. Unforgivable!

My new shirt arrived today. It's a black & white Guinness Ireland rugby shirt signed by three people - one of them is definitely Tommy, but for the life of me I can't work out who the other two squiggles are by. Still looks good though.

OK I have made my Euro 2012 team. No Spain players. They are knackered and in same position as France were going into 2002 world cup. None of worthy of being in Team Red Stag

People make a lo out of fatigue going into tournaments, they won't win it, unless Torres goes back to pre-Chelsea form but they are certainly talented and will go far.

Staggy - in my Radio Times, of the seven football pundits they've got, five of them have tipped Spain to win, closely followed by Germany, Holland and France.

Cari - they are a favourite of course. They won the last two major tournaments and their club teams are doing the business and they have good players.
I have a gut feeling they could well end up finishing on 4 points out of 9 which may or may not be enough to get out of the group.
France, Germany and Holland are good shouts. I think Russia are another good bet.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
England are as likely to win the thing as to get eliminated in the pool stages.
Its so hard to figure out I find because you are dealing with the hype of the English media machine which seems to swing so high and low. It has me second guessing what I think about the players a lot. I always find England impossible to tell. A defeat against Sweden isn't unthinkable nor is them beating France.
I read a very good blog about Ireland the other day. Two fellas were debating.
One of them made a bet for Ireland to lose every match. The other one bet for Ireland not concede 0 goals over the three games. They were discussing which was more likely.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
England should get out of their group. It's pish easy and if they don't it's a failure. Ireland play incredibly negative football and don't pick the best players available (remind you of another Irish coach), they could get out of their group as they are a very tough side to beat. They would need a minimum of I guess three to get through (they would be lucky to get through with 3) but 4 points is achievable. They need to beat one of Croatia/Italy and get a point off they team they don't beat. It's doable but not likely seeing as they have the second toughest group in the tournament.
Keep an eye out for my Ireland V Croatia preview, will be up soon if I can bother myself to get it done. Otherwise tomorrow/Sunday.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
Thomond, I think England's chances of progression depend on how they fare against France first game up. If they get at least a point there, they should kick on; but I can see them getting a bit of a lesson and that might knock the confidence out of them.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
I agree with you about England, Thomond but injuries to some serious footballers will have slightly upset their plans. I reckon France will beat them and they will find it tough against Sweden (maybe a draw).
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jedburgh
They should still get through that group, it's the second easiest in the tournament, they have enough talent to get through it. Dark horse team is Portugal, Czech Republic could do pretty well too.

Japan slaughtering Jordan in the WC 2014 Qualifier... 5-0, 58th min.
We play them next week in Brisbane. Don't like our chances. There's a bit of a rivalry between the 2 teams. Ever since that group game in 2006... they have progressed and we have stood still or gone backwards.
