Re: Shane off to japan
Makes sense what he's doing. He's still near the top of his game, fast and fit, but he doesn't want to be "retired". He may have got in the Wales squad for some time more, but his performances would have got worst over time and like he said there is so much young talent knocking at the door.
He would rather retire with dignity, but he is good enough to ply his trade elsewhere for a shedload of cash for a few seasons more.
He is a freak, so talented and he has done so much for Wales and Welsh rugby he deserves a big pot of gold at the end of it.

Well for 600k you cant blame him. Guess it means the Amman are going to have to wait a couple of years before he turns out for them.

He could be 50 and playing for Amman Utd and still be better than all of them.

What's the Japanese for "Shane who"?

Just to let you know. Some people have argued that Ben Cohen didn't hear the interview properly and wasn't sure if it was Shane Williams or Shane Howarth.
This isn't true. If you've seen the Shane Williams BBC documentary on YouTube you can clearly see he is paying attention and also the interviewer says SHANE WILLIAMS. He was being blatantly cocky because Wales had a hiding. Oh how times have changed...

Don't forget World-Cup-winning Mr Cohen is partially deaf.welliamwibb wrote:sugarNspikes wrote:What's the Japanese for "Shane who"?

I already know this. Rather than arguing back just watch the video and you will see.
Well done on the world cup. It was great, AT THE TIME.
Wales have won 3 slams since then and England.... well nothing.
The present counts, or recent past even!

Can't wait to see that England grand slam in 2028. It will be worth the wait.

£600k to play in Japanese Division2! There's some seriously insane money over there. Jacque Fourie on £1.1m was a stretch, and offering SBW £1.5m was bonkers too. It's not like any of the 3 are tightheads or fly halves either.
PS, nice to see the therad back on track. The latest edition of anglo-welsh bickering was a little too much like 2 dwarves debating who's tallest for my liking.

This guy really has no integrity. Accepts numerous 'retirement' matches. Lied to the nation on BBC television last week.

Personally I'd happily change my mind for £600,000

This is getting worse than Henson. I'm deadly serious.
Paterson, arguably Scotland's greatest player (remember it's all relative) for the past decade too, retired with dignity - why can't Williams?

Was Paterson offered £600.000 to keep playing ? Not once have I heard Shane say that he was going to give up the game.

He will return to international rugby in 2015 and score all of Wales tries when they beat New Zealand in the final.

Spot on. He has been retiring for ever and cant seem to let go of the limelight. Hes like a boxer that keeps coming back for one more fight.
Good player mind you. But his attention seeking a bs is starting to reflect poorly on him.

Why is playing additional games of rugby undignified?

Average height for Japanese men is 5'7 and Williams is 5'7 so you are spot on.
