Sky why ?
Why are the summer tour matches only shown on Sky ? Are they shown on normal channels in the host nations.
For the record I have the full Sky package.

In NZ Sky has pretty much got a monopoly on rugby coverage, with the exception of the RWC, and a few games on MaoriTV (with Te Reo Maori commentary).

Re: Sky why ?
Same happens in SA, we get all the rugby on Supersport a pay channel, our public broadcaster will show our own tests but delayed.

S4C shows the game in its full length but in the evening so you have to try and avoid the result.
Notice Sky haven't got Brumbies game on but they have the England v SA baa baa

Re: Sky why ?
If it wasn't for the money sky/super sport/fox sport pays for these matches the game would be in a sorry state.
At worst you can nip down you're local and spend £5 for a couple of beers to watch the match.
If Sky is showing the ENG match vs. SA baa baa's and not Wales v. Brumbies its because their isn't enough interest to warrant the match over another sport. They're a business... they will show the best available to them to make as much revenue as possible... there will be no bias.
In the end... ENG has 52MM people, Wales... what 3MM???? Completely different market.

Re: Sky why ?
I have upped my package for the month, works out cheaper than popping down the pub 3 weekends in a row even for a few.
Plus that and the fact and working next weekend so sky + it

Aerobics OZ style must be in huge demand then.

If the BBC didn't spend so much of their sports budget clinging onto Formula 1, then we might see more tours being aired by them.

I find formula 1, very boring.
you go out on saturday, make poll position, then unless your car breaks down, you won't lose.

I used to like it but now it really bores me. Just cars going round and round. Rugby is far more interesting!

I was actually just wondering about the athletic section, what does one say there, what do you debate?
Me: Geez, Bolt is fast.
You: yep, speedy one that man.
Me: Ok cheers.
You: Cheers mate chat next week.

They spend all day debating if a particular athlete is really male or female and what performance enhancing substance works the best.

Re: Sky why ?
If it wasn't for Sky/Fox there would be no professional rugby in SANZAR, so i don't think people should complain.
Australian rugby could do with a lot more rugby on free to air because of the huge decline popularity though.
NZ should try and milk as much as money as they can from it, they don't have many money makers as it is.
Maybe SA should to try and spread it to the local Black communities

Not that easy gowales.
The government puts zero money into grass roots rugby, talented balck rugby players go to elite rugby schools if they show a smidgeon of talent, otherwise they have to play on hard grass, the "black schools" don't eveolve in rugby because the teachers aren't interested in coaching rugby in most of the townships.

Fair enough biltongbek it must be a very complicated and difficult process of spreading rugby in SA because of the political past.

We all know that black people produce fantastic athlete's but it seems that swimming is one sport they struggle to be competitive in

It's so hard to watch a delayed match because you want to scream, but you know it's not live and it feels a bit odd.
Re: Sky why ?
Try firstrowsports on the internet, it's normally pretty good but you do occasionally get some dodgy pop-ups.

I dont own a tv that can get satalite or even normal tv channels via antenna. I own a vhs / tv combi unit with a dvd player attached!
Everything I watch is on the internet, via stream. By fair means or foul
I do plan to get free view or sky or something one day but i never seem to get around to it.
You can easily down load all rugby games from certain places even if you miss them, and I quite enjoy actually going to matches too, so I have a happy balance.

Not true. Professional rugby was already set up to go, before SANZAR brought rugby to Sky and Supersport in a last minute desperate fight to keep the IRB alive. Rugby would undoubtedly be in a different format. We have a virtual monopoly in televised sport in NZ. Many sports pay to get their events televised. I enjoy the rugby channel. However, overall the service, is by sky's own admission relatively expensive, and the subscription options are limited. Most people I've talked to are fundamentally dissatified and would change providers if another option became available.

Canelion, you should contact Supersport, request them to provide service in your area, they are the most comprehensive rugby provider in the WORLD.

World Rugby Corporation right? I watched an interesting documentary about the whole fiasco. Jock Hobb really saved the NZRU's arse and probably world wide international rugby!

Re: Sky why ?
What is wrong about SKY?
I like it and they get all the rugby on display and invest in the technology to broadcast and is minimum advertments.
I think it is good service and reasonable price.
Would be best of course if they make rugby package instead of sports package and then put always rugby to one or two channels and only swapping the channel from normal one if there is clashing.
It is obvious stupid to selling the channel by one by one and then need to get all in case is moving from SS1 to SS2 to SS3 to SS4 to Xtra or whatever is called this month.
But can you think really we would get mobile TV, pause and stream and rewind and red button and interaction and this if state TV had just keep the rugby always?
