RFU Maintains it's Old Boys Club
From Friday's Telegraph:
Well they voted and it came down to Griffin v Whiting for the 4th and final spot. The votes were tied 33 apiece which meant the casting vote was needed by the RFU president. I doubt anyone is surprised it went to Peter Whiting.
Deborah Griffin seeks to become first elected female member of Rugby Football Union’s board of directors
Deborah Griffin is seeking to become the first elected female member of the Rugby Football Union’s board of directors at the governing body’s council meeting at Twickenham on Friday.
Griffin, the chairman of the RFU for Women, is one of five candidates who are standing for four elected council representative places on the board.
She faces competition from Ian Metcalfe, the chairman of the Professional Game Board, John Briers, Peter Whiting and John Douglas, who is seeking to return to the board and is the nominations committee’s preferred candidate.
Griffin, however, has significant support within the RFU Council and is regarded as a progressive moderniser. She was awarded the OBE for services to women’s rugby last year in recognition of her role in establishing the England women’s side and the women’s World Cup.

Re: RFU Maintains it's Old Boys Club
Well, waddya know..!!
Truth be told, the only difference it would have made was 56 old farts instead of 57.
Seriously though, there won't be any chance of a female member on the RFU committee until they make a mistake somewhere in their carefully orchestrated selection process, that can form the basis of a legal challenge and a High Court Judge forces the issue.
It took a cataclysmic meteor strike to rid the world of one lot of dinosaurs, millions of years ago, I fear a similar event will be needed to get rid of the current lot at the RFU.

I think that this sentence is more relevant to the result than her gender:
"Griffin, is regarded as a progressive moderniser".

I agree, Irish. The last thing the RFU wants is modern thinking. The next thing you know, England will be running with the ball..!!
