I hope he doesn't rush it. If he needs more time off, he should take it. With the fantastic news that Diack is playing out of his skin in training, he may be allowed to take a slightly longer rest.

pioden gorllewin wrote:UP-AND-COMING outside-half Niall Martin has left Newport Gwent Dragons Academy after being snapped up by Ulster Academy.
The 18-year-old from Newport attracted the interest of the Heineken Cup finalists not only because of his potential but also as a result of his Irish links.
The teenager, who turns 19 next month, was born in Ballymoney in Northern Ireland, his father stationed in the province with the British Army during The Troubles.
He also has Irish ancestry through a grandfather born in County Wexford.
The 5ft 7in and 11st 9lb Martin made his semi-professional debut in the Premiership for Newport last October during their defeat to Aberavon at Rodney Parade and went on to make five appearances for the Black and Ambers last season. The ex-Coleg Gwent student was being mentored by the former Wales star Mark Ring who coaches the Dragons’ Junior Academy backs at the college’s Cross Keys campus as well as coaching the village’s successful Premiership side.
Martin played a vital role in Coleg Gwent’s Cross Keys’ dramatic 17-16 victory over Llanelli side Coleg Sir Gâr to win the Colleges League in May.
Played in atrocious conditions at Bridgend’s Brewery Field, the fly half showed nerves of steel to secure the win with a drop goal deep in injury time.
Martin was due to feature with Cross Keys this season but will now play for the famous Ballymena club in the league as well as Ulster Academy and Under-20s.
“I was really looking forward to playing with Keys and working with Ringo – his analysis is out of this world,” Martin said. “But going to Ulster on this academy contract is such an exciting chance.”

A young IQ outhalf, good for Ulster and good for Ballymeana, makes up for the lose of Jamie Smith to Dragons.

Anyone heard anything about which players they might take a look at against Bayonne tomorrow night?

Ok, I'm pretty sad about how 606v2 has died a death in terms of Ulster supporters. Hopefully you all come back at start of the season.
For anyone who is still around and cares, rumour is Payne is playing 13 versus Bayonne tonight.
And there will be someone giving updates via twitter/facebook during match.
Rolling subs also.

New Ulster coach Mark Anscombe has named his match day squad for the pre season friendly against Bayonne at the Parc des Jean Dauger this evening (KO 7pm BST)...
In his first match in charge, Anscombe has selected a team with a mix of youth and experience, and it will give him the chance to look at some interesting combinations.
The match will see Australian born openside flanker Sean Doyle make his debut for Ulster in the back row. Jared Payne will start the game at outside centre, in what will be his first outing since he damaged his Achilles against Cardiff in September last year.
Doyle is joined in the back row by the experienced Robbie Diack and Mike McComish. Johann Muller will skipper the team and is partnered at lock by Neil McComb. The front row will be made up of Callum Black, Niall Annett and Adam Macklin, who will be starting a game together for the first time.
Former Methodist College classmates Blane McIlroy and Patrick Jackson will form the half back combination, while Academy player Chris Farrell will play alongside Payne in midfield. Chris Cochrane, Craig Gilroy and Peter Nelson will provide plenty of attacking intent from the back three.
The match in France is part of a four day training camp before Ulster return for home friendlies against Leicester (18th Aug) and Newcastle (24th Aug).
Ulster (15-9): P Nelson; C Gilroy, J Payne, C Farrell, C Cochrane; P Jackson, B McIlroy;
(1-8): C Black, N Annett, A Macklin, J Muller (c), N McComb, M McComish, S Doyle, R Diack;
Replacements: R Herring, R Lutton, J Afoa, L Stevenson, A Birch, M Heaney, N O’Connor, L Marshall, M Allen, R Andrew

Re: Ulster squad additions
Clive, there are still plenty of Ulster fans on here, it's the offseason really and yuo have had like 30 pages (2 threads I think) of discussion on Ulster already. Is there much more to talk about?!
Rava, I like the look of that team, you add in an experienced face or 2 with Bowe and Pienaar and that is one scary backline. Keep up the good work Ulster, we will have try and bring you down from the High Veldt this year......

There's still a few knocking around Clive....
Still in Olympic mode but starting to really look forward to the new season.
Nice team there Rava, very interesting that Payne is playing 13..... glad to see Luke Marshall back in the mix.
Anyone know when the tickets are on sale for the Tigers game?
SUFTUM!

Saturday week I think Thom... I'm pretty disorganised at the minute, even by my standards .... the off season is too short these days for us fans, I'm still recovering from last season...

Tickets are available online Rodders.
I wouldn't read too much into Payne at 13 just yet. If he was to start there against Leicester though then there would be something to talk about.
I expected him to throw a few of these lads a game out of the limelight. Good management.

Re: Ulster squad additions
Payne can play all accorss the backline can't he Rav? I suppose testing him out in different positions will do no harm. I think after his injury last year Ulster are just trying to give him some gametime to get back to the rigours of the game. Being handled well and I thought he was an exciting player to watch.
