The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

More of a Dub accent, but no it was a typo, Most of my energy is being focused into writing something else at the moment, so forgive the typos.

No, not yet anyway. I wouldn't be too optimistic on that one. It's the 4th most visited sports site in America! They cover pretty much everything from NFL/NBA, to Lacrosse and even a bit of Rugby Union. They were looking for contributors and I applied. This will be going on the v2journal and another site.

Sometimes I just hate how the little support people show towards the Irish national team.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Is this because I said our 10 year old's tag team off-load more than them?

Stag, I agree with you. People are always b!tching about them. Even when we won the Slam people weren't happy!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
No MrsP. Just yet another Irish thread where:
- Posters from each province gives out their favourite players arent picked
- Kidney and the other coaches accused of being intentionally corrupt and handing out caps based on guys provinces
- The marked contrast between the soccer atmosphere against Croatia the other night against the rubbish "support" the rugby boys get in Aviva. I remember Dreamer telling me and the Micks how underwhelmed she was by it.
This is not support. I've said it several times but I can't think of a country that gets worse support than we do from its fans.

I can think of a sports team but not a natioanl side. Maybe the England footballers?

Well, you'll just have to stand by me at the next ireland game then Stag.
I may complain about selection etc but that will not stop me supporting the team!

I will have to. We all think Kidney is doing shoddy but no reason to not support the team.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Howya Billy? Great to see you back here even for a short spell. I would suggest not going near an Ireladn thread, you know how those things can make you want to bang your head against a wall!
Keep fighting the good fight, hope to see you on here more frequently soon! Waterford are not very good, should be a good game. Come on the Banner!

Eirebilly Good to hear from you. Hope that your recovery's all going as well as it seems. No doubt we'll be "seeing" you again soon.
Rory - what you said is true enough, but it's easier said than done. It's gets really hard when you're not the most confident person, and people just think they can come out with some gem or other for the sake of it. I've had a cry about it anyway (to vent frustration more than anything else) and thankfully, I don't work directly with this person. She just made me feel like I did when I was school again is all. Silly really isn't it? Just makes me cross that people feel the need to do stuff like that at all.
Rory_Gallagher wrote:The best thing I can say is that people who act like that, are giving a much poorer reflection of themselves than the person they are trying to make fun of or insult. The sheep that giggle and snigger, are just as bad. Just don't associate yourself with these people and stand your ground.
The people that get on like that are usually trying to cover up their own insecurities.

Cari,
That is rotten but the girl must have "issues" of her own to do something like that!
Probably to be more pitied than anything!

Yeah, it certainly is easier said than done. And it certainly isn't silly to feel that way either, so don't let people tell you otherwise. Is this a one off sort of thing or a frequent occurrence? People can be very cruel at times.

Rory - no, it's just been the last two days. I think she got the impression that I wasn't happy about her comments, so maybe she'll just lay off now. Like I said, I don't have to deal with her too much, but it makes me feel a bit self conscious around the office now.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Well if it happens again Cari, tell us please. I don't mean that is a nosey way, but you can't let people treat you like that.
Regarding people having issues, people certainly like to keep their problems to themselves nowadays, rather than be open about it, and I don't blame them as it is rare that anyone wants to listen to the problems of others. Nor do people want to appear "weak". This is why people do things to keep their issues at the back of their minds, in many different ways. Eventually it surfaces though. We live in a "keep it to yourself" society for the most part. I think people need to be encouraged to open up more, and listen more too.
