The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Gutted. But, in fairness, we were beaten by a great team, playing well within themselves.
We are now looking at beating Portugal (no big deal) and getting a better GD, to go through. Obviously need a win for Germany v Denmark. Expected but not sure
Just start the team that finished this one. Robben is a klootsak.
Losing the game v Denmark was the killer.

Germany could rub salt in to Dutch wounds by choosing to rest players against Denmark Gibbo. That would really sting.

Anyone note boetang got himself a silly yellow card for time wasting. Thus meaning he misses the next game against the Danes which is effectivly a dead rubber, and avoids any potential for him to miss a knock out match. Or am I being cynical.
Gibbo that holland portugal clash is going to be class. But despite the fact they shipped 2 easy goals today I still think the Portuguese defense is marginally better than yours.

I think they will rest a few Notch. The Dutch would - with 6 pts in the bag. But, Germany will want to win that one. Its how they rock. So I hope they play with freedom and hammer em.
I think we will see the real Dutch team turn up v Portugal. We have to.
But I just hate depending on other teams.

Willser, last August, when we were No.1 in the FIFA listings, the Dutch defence was not a problem. This Dutch team has just not turned up. Bouma may be brought back to steady the ship, I reckon.
Actually, Im just gutted. This should not be. But it is.
Im watching Ned 1 TV. They are ripping into Van Maarwijk and Robben. Love it.
As for Boateng, ja. Je heft gelijk mon. Dat was slim van him. He knew. All YC's are obsolete in the knockouts too.
Our Billy is back. Feic it all anyway!

Buenas tardes, amigos. Ermmm #bitpissed Is that how it works? Anyway, been up the hill marshalling the Ben Shian race this evening. Planet midgie out there. However, marshalls get 2 vouchers for drinkies back at The Inn. Yesss! "V large glass of the pink fermented grape juice, barperson, thank you" Gorgeous evening, glad I took my midgie net. Would you like to see some pics posted in the FB Pub?

And, btw, has anybody noticed that Los Pumitas are in the SF of the Junior WC? Yeaaaaay!
Received a pack from Glasgow Warriors today inviting me to take up a season ticket at Scotstoun for next season. It's actually a very good deal - I'm tempted.

Buenos tardes Puma, #looksoktome
I remember the midgies, they like my blood a little too much! Yeah, put some photos up on FB, it sounds like a grand day.
I'm looking at ideas for a christening cake I've been asked to make. In truth it's procrastination, tomorrow's not going to be fun and I'm trying to delay it!

Evening Gibbo
Job's going ok thanks, only 2 weeks and 2 days and my placement is done. The time's gone by in a flash!
That cake is really cute but I've taken a real shine to this

Edit: though when I look again the one you posted would be nice and easy
No worries Puma, there was a rather more pressing matter that day

Baking a really nice cake and watshing people slurp eating it, is such a buzz.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Sleep time for me, it's tomorrow already.
Must remember in the morning that my car hasn't been nicked, it's just parked a long way from my house thanks to other people's inability to park. There's room for at least another 6 cars if people would just learn that they don't need 4 feet to get their cars out!
Rant over.
Gibbo, didn't intend to dismiss your suggestion, it really is lovely. I made a birthday cake for a colleague's little boy, first time I've ever tried creating something with proper icing and all. I loved doing it so now want to push myself further.
I have a photo of it but don't know how to upload it from my hard drive!

Had an idea! I've just put a photo of it in the FB pub so you'll be able to see it now. The only things I've ever iced before were Christmas cakes so this was something of a learning curve!!
I am off to bed now, catch you all later

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Im Sleepless in Hamsterjam. Had few hours kip and just woke up.
Irish team has 10 Leinster players in it. Should be 11/12. Anyway... Who's the one key player missing, to complete the jigsaw? The one to make the rest Rock and to even reduce the score from last week? Let's be honest here, the Keewees will be even stronger than last week. We just need to give them a wee reminder, after last week's debacle.
Answer = Reddan.
We'll still get stuffed. But not by as much. We're knackerred from lifting Big Shiney Cups at this stage.
If this was the start and not the end, of Leinster's long hard season - we'd ave em! Maybe. On a good day. With the wind behind us. Every man being on form. Yada yada
DO NOT DISCUSS. IT'S FACT. END OF.
That is all.

McFadden at 12, Zeebo at 11, Trimble 14, Reddan or Boss at 9 (with the other one on the bench) Jennings at 7, Cronin at 2.
Mind you I'd have Madigan, Carr and Henry in my team. I'd be playing Sexton at 12.

Ahhh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Someone still thinks Carr can play rugby......ooooooh that's cheered me up.
I said it so many times on the old 606....HE'LL NEVER BE SEEN IN AN IRISH LINEUP
The only way we can win on saturday is for someone to take out one single person, take him out permanently

Darren Cave, Chris Henry and possibly Paul Marshall. 3 unbelievably exciting young prospects all of whom will be lucky to see an hour of test match rugby between them. What's the point declan? Also I thought Zebo acquitted himself rather well last week contrary to the lad on the opposite wing who retains his place.

Agreed there Willy, apart from Marshall, he'll be lucky if he gets an hour on the bench despite being an exciting player. He will however benefit from his time in the Ireland camp and having been on tour. Henry looks like missing out altogether too which just confuses my poor brain.

Last week we saw what a gulf there is between Provincial and International rugby. Cave didn't do himself any favours and he only covers one position. For what its worth I think backrow selection is about right. Henry is on tour covering 7. He might get a run next week in the dead rubber
Paul Marshall isn't an International standard scrumhalf. That is not to say he shouldn't be where he is but I'd much prefer he didn't get any time on the pitch in NZ unless it's really necessary. God knows what a hammering from NZ would do to the lads confidence.

Paul Marshall isn't an International standard scrumhalf. That is not to say he shouldn't be where he is but I'd much prefer he didn't get any time on the pitch in NZ unless it's really necessary. God knows what a hammering from NZ would do to the lads confidence.
Rava, New Zealand player are involved in provincial rugby too, their standards don't drop when they get to International level. Why is that?

Maybe there's less of a gap for the NZers between provincial and international level

Yeah I don't agree with that Rava. Cave didn't play well in the barbarians game either. He is just out of form right now.
As for the team.. did Kidney see the game? Why oh why would you keep McFadden on the wing..

If you're implying that NZ players are better, then there's no arguing with that. But this "step up to international" level business doesn't hold much weight with me...

Sorry Mick, I was (teasingly) suggesting that SXV/INL Cup were closer to test standard than HEC/Rabo.
International rugby is the toughest place to play, that's why it's called "test" rugby. Most players I've heard talking about the differences have said that it is a lot harder, with less margin for error and less time on the ball to make decisions.

They are simply the best at getting it right at all levels most of the time. This 'step' concept is misleading. NZ just have a special culture of knowing 'how to win'... never say die, etc. There's nothing complex about it. It's all hard work.
Don't forget SA (34) and Oz (41) have beaten them 75 times... so there's is a chink there every now and then... over the last century for SA; during the last 30 odd years for Oz. It's just that they've beaten us 97 times and SA 46 times over the same period.
Kiwi, 'twas good to see our men & women's touch rugby sides hand down a lesson in Mudgee the other day (they had a little piece on it)
So you are human after all?

Clemant Poitrenaud has said that the HC Semi final last year was like the "latter stages of the world cup" in terms of intensity and speed.
Less time on the ball would suggest that defenses are more organised, but how could a defense be more organised at international level where players are together for much shorter spaces of time? I just find it doesn't make much sense to me. All teams are at that same disadvantage. How can we be so good at provincial level and so poor at international level?

Willy, I did clock that clip - immense strength from the Beast and immense trust from Bresler that the Beast is going to hold him!WillyGilly wrote:Don't know if anyone saw this at the time, but she's well worth a watch.

Morning all, late arrival in work this morning - Father's Day coffee morning with Finn and his class, then strait on to Niamh's class summer show. Exhausted now!
Is everyone well? If i had the energy, I'd quote one of Gib's Dutch (shexy) football messages from a week or so ago, and replace 'Holland' with 'Germany'. And what's with the virtually all Leinster team - a bit of a Gatland-esque move?

I didn't say the standards dropped.

Its very easy to say "so and so" is just out of form right now. Maybe its a case of not being up to the standard required.

I also know players who say HEC rugby is just as intense as international rugby. I don't really understand why moving from a provincial/club game to an international, suddenly speeds everything up. There is a gulf between SH and NH rugby, that is a fact. The speed in which they play is a whole new level. Ireland are just an exceedingly slow team. That is the difference between provincial and international rugby.

Yeah, but against the barbarians? He has played much better teams than that.
