The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

I've chucked in another vote Ozzy!!
Spain should be 3 or 4 up by now....would love Ireland to nick one and get a draw!

We're getting a battering but not letting Spain get many chances, it's like the Inter game v Barca a few years ago except we're not defending as good as they were No team is going to dominate Spain for possession we're not defending too badly. As Mick said on Muppet.
Time to bring on Rog though, play for territory like....
We have them where we want them. THEY'RE ON THE Flip ROPES LADS!! #COYBIG

Roysh, so we'll build it up slowly. See how they play it.
Howya PJ! Storee bud?
Ah man! This is like the old 3 and in game we used play as kids. It so soul-destroying for the team and fans. I said it before it all started. They are way out of their depth at this comp. Specially in this pool.
Such a shame. Hate seeing it.

Worst thing about watching this game for me is Shay Given. He has been a truly great goalkeeper but he looks shot. His reactions for the first goal were slow and the punch there for the second was awful.
Hate to see such a great player go out like this in his last major tournament.

Yeah, he was coming out of the Harvester when a big Range Rover with tinted windows and private plates goes past, parks up and our 'Arry gets out and walks into the stadium.

Ireland dont even have the basic ability to hold on to the ball. Go through a few passing phases, to relieve the pressure against the Big Boys.
Just like our rugby team in NZ.
I despair...

True PJ, but Croatia are not. They walked around us as well. Not so easily, I'll admit. Even England would have a chance against this Irish side!

Some of the footwork and passing and movement from Spain is just superb. You have to feel a bit for Ireland here as they are working their nuts off but are just chasing shadows at times.

Viva El Capitano!!
He hasn't been right for a while Biglad, he struggled through last season in fits and starts, and this may sound really bad, but whilst he'll be missed in terms of his overall contribution to the club, on last season's form it's not a massive blow.
The big deal is that his playing career is over and you've got to feel some of that. At least he's staying on and being looked after by the rest of the family.

Thats a heartbreaker there... Ireland have been totally outclassed...but they've been pretty poor to be honest.... started very sluggishly...
This is a quality Spanish side though .

The competition wont miss the team... But it will badly miss the fans. They light a Tournament up. And NO bad shoite. Just drrink, singing and craic and mixing with the locals.
That gives me an inner-pride.

Spain are World and European Champions. They are the best side there has been for a long time.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
We were outclassed. Spain were obviously the better side. What was annoying was that Spain didn't have many clear goal chances and their goals all came from our stupid mistakes.
Trap didn't pick some of our better footballers and it showed. Like England we only have few guys who are similar to the likes of Pique, Iniesta, Xavi. But we didn't pick him that's what's frustrating. Most teams would lose against this Spanish side so you can hold your head up lads. Crying out of pride that our fans have shown and sadness that we've lost. Travelling with the Irish Soccer team is a brilliant occasion. The passion there is far greater than the rugby team. You won't hear our rugby fans belting out the fields when we're getting hammered by the ABs.
We lack some technical ability but the guys who have it have been omitted. There is a lot of talented young guys in the Irish underage setup and LOI right now. Trap is probably not the best guy to leads us forward. No offence to our neighbours but I don't want Ireland to end up like NI, ot Scotland (Wales have improved recently but last year they would be in this list).
Proud of our fans and the players they gave it their all, they may be limited in ability but they're not lacking in heart (that was pretty cliché I know)
A mix of both right now.
