The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Good thanks Dreamer. Shoes are off for the night. Pint of stout poured. Steaks ready for the pan and a nice bottle of red wine resting.

I've just read a fantastic article about urban exploring, and basically there are like 18 abandoned tube stations in London, if you know where to look and how to get into them. This I want to do

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Sounds good to me Rava! I've got some ginger beer chilling in the fridge myself
And I've just developed a bit of a crush on Schevchenko. I went off him when he signed for Chelsea, but he just plays so much better for the Ukraine.
And speaking of articles, I've just been reading a few of James Lovelock's (or at least interviews with him). I always get conflicted reading some of his stuff, because I always end up agreeing with half, but strongly disagreeing with the rest! Leaves me all quite confused, and I'm never sure whether I think he's just an overly intelligent idiot or not. Hmmm.....

Dont miss any of those Ghost-Trains now Hoog.
I remember a program on about that years back. It was fascinating. So much underground we dont generally know about. Sounds like a good mission bud.

I reckon they could get a trained-monkey to replace Adrian Chiles and people would be more enlightened and entertained.

Don't you know it! I've barely time to stop for a cup of tea throughout the day
And yeah I'm good ta. My parents are starting to drive me a bit potty (they are decorating upstairs which makes then, ahem, a tiiiinsy little bit stressed at times) but for the most part home is very good. Time with my family, my cat and all out in the lush green countryside...yeah I'll take that for now
All things good with you Gibbo?

Im grand Dreamer thanks. And yeah, our kids would stay out of our way when we were decorating. Specially when I was wallpapering and MrsG was helping. A row every time.
Im too fussy. Has to be perfect. MrsG goes nuts at the length of time it takes. But feic it, I have to look it for years after. The decorating. Not MrsG.

ha Gibbo, I think it's more due to the fact that over the 26yrs my parents have lived here, my Dad now has three sheds filled with tools and things, where he's adamant he can find anything.
Fast forward to decorating and when he needs things for his work, he ends up buying new tools/paint brushes etc because....he can't find anything (not that he'll admit that to my Mam!)
The inevitable arguments ensue

MrsP - not too bad, although the team I'm in were a bit fraught by this afternoon, but that's not unusual for a Friday, it gets a bit mad. Still, I cope with that sort of pressure pretty well.
Rava - I've "spoken" to him on a few O's threads in the past.
Don't care for the football at all, although that thunderstorm during the Ukraine match was pretty spectacular (I saw it on the news).

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Dreamer,
When I was a kid and my Dad couldn't find one of his tools the standard joke was to say to my mum,
"Ah sure I bet your Dad has taken it to the Ship Yard!"
Like Harland and Wolfe needed another claw hammer! The best of it was that most of the tools had been brought to the house by my Grandad in the first place!
Just got all nostalgic for my Granda then!
I would still be able to spot anything he made as he was not a man for using 1 nail when you could place 6 or 7 in there instead!

Standing joke with Mrs R's dad was when he put a nail in the living room wall to hang a picture they were able to hang another picture in the bedroom

Actually Dreamer the underground does fascinate me. I worked in London 25 years ago and couldn't believe when I had gone down about three escalators in one station and then changed lines further on a bit and had to go down another two escalators for the next line.

I find it interesting like how it works, but just aint my cup of tea.
Send me on a city wildlife walk though, (I've seen a few advertised, and they look amazing!) that would have me

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
My Granda was great.
He could turn his hand to almost anything. He had a garage out the back of his house which was packed with every kind of nail/screw/nut/bolt/rivet/tool you could imagine.
I remember he once had an old TV out there abd he took me out and we pretended it was a bomb and we had to safely deactivate it by cutting all the wires in the correct order!
It was brilliant fun for a 7 or 8 year old!

Good thanks Mrs P...after being in Dublin yesterday I can't understand why more people don't dress up as leprechauns up here to make money from American tourists?
Is it politics or a lack of innovation?
If I'd been wearing a green suit and hat I'd have made a fortune tonight .
Can't wait until the match tomorrow....
This one is a yawnfest so far...

Well he didn't tell me it was a bomb, he pretended with me that it was a bomb.
And, although my Granda would have loved to do something like that for real I knew there was NO WAY my Nanny would have let him have anything that dangerous in the garage let alone allowing him to have me anywhere near it!
This was the man who, when he would take me to the park as a little kid, my Mum and Nanny would ask me to make sure he didn't do anything daft!

They may that Rava, but I am happy with the selection we have made in the backs, provided we play a game plan that suits and go out and attack, which is what we look set up to do.

But yes I do believe England now knows the task at hand and will most certainly be up for it, in my view it will be the match of the weekend ( if you into real rugby, that is)

Exactly Ozzy. Carry on the way they were in the 1st 20. Dont just defend a lead. Not at this level.
