The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Key man for England now in this game is Gerrard, he must keep driving us forward.

Christus. England are sitting back too much here. They could be punished for that. Sweden HAVE to win this really.

England allowing Sweden to dictate the play a bit here which is not good. Think we need half time and settle back in to playing a bit more as Sweden are not a great side and we shouldn't be fearing them, we should be looking to hammer home our advantage.

You are skating on very thin ice here buddy!
And, when you have got yourself in a hole it is better to look for a ladder than to keep diggin!

Got there Pete. Hope Roy of the Rovers gets them in the right frame for the second half.

Gibbo doesn't own a ladder! Not sure he'd even recognise one if he saw it!

By the way folks, my daughter won a singing competition today at school. This in spite of having a sore throat last night.
This is what she sang

She also won a cup with her friend for singing this one.

England need some attacking momentum. Need to get the Ox on for Ashley Young and get him driving at the full back.

Sloppy by England. Fortunate by Sweden. There is not too much between these two tbh. Two big awkward strikers and fairly average players at this level.

Terrible defending. Not sure how you allow a ball to travel that far and still don't get in a challenge. I would have got a bollocking for that in non league football when I was playing. Really poor stuff.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Independent assessment of the footie, from a standpoint of major ignorance:
Parker and Milner aren't up to playing teams like Spain who have good close controll and passing ability.
Carrol is a better international than a club player, he's been a right nuisance to Sweden all night. Ibrahimovic is lauded for being a very similar player.
England can rely on defence and the odd flashes of inspiration, because they have two or three players who can produce special moments, and the Irishman is yet to play. Rooney on Carrol's shoulder to live off scraps.
But please don't listen to me.

They need to start Wallcot and Ox. England lack creative players and those two are. Id drop Young when Rooney comes back. Then you have a side that can compete with the big sides imo.
Glen Johnson was superb. Saved 2 or 3 certain goals.

Ah, I wouldn't blame him for that one Willser. It was going in and then came back off the post when he tried to clear it. England will make the knockouts... but... I reckon that will be it.
Still, if yer not in em, ya cant win em.
Im praying for a big win v Portugal and Germany to beat Denmark.
