The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
That NZ v Ire match actually puts me in mind of the SA v Wales one in the group stages of the RWC.
Wales, like Ireland, gave it everything, but still lost in an agonisingly close score line. It helped Wales to kick on and improve though, so I hope it does the same for you guys
uuuuurgh I feel sick now.
That Ireland match almost wiped me out, got to build myself up again for Cymru.
If we play half as well as Ireland just did, I'll be happier then with how we played last week. We need a massive improvement, especially for the first half.

We were better than the ABs. Lost it due to our own mistakes. It happens. Don't see the same happening next week. I know ROG and Murray get a fair bit of stick ,and a lot of it is deserved, but they played well when they were on the pitch.

You guys played a lot better with ROG on and Sexton in the centre. That's when your backs finally really sparked into life.

We have never had a bad match with rog and sexton.together. In fact our best performances over last 18 months have all had that pairing. Really gutfed.

No, he has been saying it for the whole game. He is taking the pish I hope. There are more positives than negatives from the game but there are quite a few neagatives. Last week's game is on Youtube Munsty so this week's one could well make it's way up there if you haven't seen it.
Hope you got on well in Tanzania.

This is the first time since OZ though is it? ROG's form has dipped a bit since then. They did well though, Murray was good and I thik you need a combination of both like we did today.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
T - it's only simple things you need to work on though.
restarts (tis a Welsh curse too that we can't always gather them)
discipline - you already improved on this massively in the 2nd half. Twas the last 20mins of the 1st half that cost you.
Sort those two things and you'd have won the game.
You guys are so so close, so don't knock yourselves too much.

Back on Monday Stag.
I'm back in the UK now Thomond. If I was in Tanzania, I wouldn't be able to watch it, YouTube is much too slow out there.

Commisserations to Ireland, but that was a hell of a performance. Your defence was very good and you reduced NZ to picks and drives, they never got to attack McFadden which I expected would happen a lot.

Thomond - we used it against Italy in 6 Nations when we won 42-10. We used it against Australia in the RWC. We used it against England in the Six Nations when we won 24-8.

Have to say I'm immensely around of the boys today, they stopped NZ playing for 80 minutes great achievement, however this needs to be done next week as well. I'll get into it more latest when I've calmed down
Also rodders ill say it in here rather than on the match thread, buddy your talking out of your hole on that thread, its no wonder people complain about the support the team gets when your coming out with some of that drivel.

Ah well, that's sport I suppose. Watch out Aussies next week.
Will the journo's have a 'gulf' between the hemispheres to talk about tomorrow?
Anyway, I was on a stag night in London with this guy a couple of years ago. Puts it all in perspective:

Fair enough Hoog.
Would you like to show me the decency of pointing out the drivel or would you rather just throw personal insults?
I'm sorry if I expect more from experienced international players than not being able to close out a game and secure at least a draw when you have possession deep in the opposition half on 75 min, a dominant scrum, the opposition down to 14 men.
If that makes a bad supporter and the cause of Irelands problems well then feic it. Sorry for believing in my team and wanting us to win.

cheers As
dreamer - that last 10 mins was unbearable. Thought we'd lose. We were very lucky but Wales certainly did play better rugby tonight compared to last week. So many 'ifs and buts' but that's rugby. 'Twas a very physical and brutal game really... errors and stuff-ups bound to occur from players and maybe even ref.
Glas, very sad about your rally driver mate. It does put it all in perspective.

No what you said early on in the match thread (which has descended rapidly into a blame game now... ) about this game ending like the Ireland one!
Also, I'll say it again. Well done Scotland. Apparently Visser had good game.

Now rodders you know as well as I do that you are being over critical of the team today, quotes like, BOD LOOKED GUTTED AFTER THE GAME, WELL SO HE SHOULD HE LOST IT FOR US, don't help, a little perspective would go down nicely especially when it was a superb performance from the lads

Breaker - I'm more upset as I only really saw the 2nd test as our chance of getting the win, and we were oh so close to it. We performed much to the level I was expecting and it still wasn't enough. Cognrats on the win though

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Hoog if you're going to paraphrase me you could at least quote what I actually said.
I did not say BOD lost us the game but he did contribute to the ABs try and he eluded to it in his speech. Last week they hit us after half time and the loose kicking killed us so no excuses, it was soft.
We were superb for 70-75mins... if I'm critical its because I believe that we are capable of better and we missed a huge..no unbelievable chance to make history today.
I'm not happy. Extremely proud of the effort yes but bitterly disappointed with the last 5 minutes and some of the errors and poor decisions.
Sorry .

Welsh blaming the refs again.........
Rodders, you are right about some of your points, but you are being very dramatic and out of line with some of them. Over a series like this you look for improvement and that's what we got. You will never have the perfect game. We improved, we should have won but them's the breaks. Disicipline is a problem with most Irish teams, the senior side it's a big issue. We should be pleased but not happy, if you get me. We should want more.

Nicely summed up Thomond.
Ireland headed in the right direction today but that elusive win is still beckoning.
Can be done though - just a bit more required. Hopefully for you; next match.

It seems to me everyone was pretty much at it. From waht I saw Wales lost that game, much like Ireland, due to a lack of composure and a a flaky outhalf (Sexton played great,Priestland did not)
25-23. Pete I think. They lost by two points to a last minute penalty.

Yet you said the welsh were getting "like the irish" in terms of overreacting on the other thread? Not to mention taking another chance to join in and side with anyone that has a disagreement with me? Or complaining that I need to "show some empathy mate" just for telling someone that the referee did not "kill" the game for Wales, which even they admitted was highly exaggerated?
And it isn't "some of" it is "the majority of" going by that thread anyway.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
T I was listening to the second half on the radio, Gareth Charles and Delve were annoyed with one scrum penalty (that Barnes missed) and pointed out the Dan Baugh was going beserk on the touch line. That's the only comment I heard really. Charles will criticise referees if necessary and as such he can't have been that bad. Anyway you have to come over all obstacles to win, and an SH ref in the SH will be one of them. Never expected to win down under, so am strangely ambivalent, although the Scarlets boys weighed in with the tries and we got two to Australia's one.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
Glas, they're Welsh commentators they're going to be biased. Someone was given a lashing for saying that the winning penalty was a penalty. It was, someone then goes on and say we're gutted, leave it. Why should that person be ganged up on for agreeing with the ref? Someone agreed this morning with the ref did in the NZ game and nothing happened. We were willing to accept we lost the game of our own accord. Why can't some people?

We don't have the culture of deference to the man in black T. Probably best to keep out of it if you don't like it. You have no chance of changing it. I'm not as emotionally invested in this tour as its off season and I've got a lot else on. Plus it's on Sky do I won't be watching it. I see your point though.
