The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
First topic message reminder :
Kia ora and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Christchurch, as it prepares to host its first test match in over 2 years. While reconstruction continues post-earthquake there's plenty of vacant lots for the pub to "occupy".
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Llanelli legend Nigel Davies, and local heroes Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Ah my Mam just made me lunch to make me feel better, and my Dad rang me from work after the match to see it was okay. Think I can safely say I've a family who understands my rugby obsession

Hoog, Thomond... yes I got a bit emotional on the thread... sorry .
There were some monumental performances, massive efforts across the board. It was a much better display than last week when we were all over the place at times.
This is just a devestating defeat though...another one that got away... I think we'll be talking about this one for years to come...like the games in 2006...France 2007... it is just really hard to take this one... you get so few chances to beat these guys .
In terms of the performance...well I've seen enough false dawns under Kidney not to get too excited yet that we've turned a corner.... I'll wait until after next week to judge this tour but right now its played 2 lost 2 and I'm disappointed about that, particularly after such a poor 6N.
I'm massively proud of our players but if my expectations are high its because I know how good these guys are and I expect big performances evertime we play.

I'm not as emotionally invested in this tour as its off season and I've got a lot else on. Plus it's on Sky do I won't be watching it. I see your point though.
Off season? emotionally invested? You're so funny, Glas.
I've boycotted the JRWC for precisely the same reasons though.

I agree, I think we could get hammered next week. A loss like that is soul destroying, even if Kidney employs good tactics (Yeah I know) it's hard if you're a player to bounce back from that.

How VERY dare you! Are you saying that if we win the last test that I will retain my ambivalence, ARE YOU! Well, erm, no I won't, but that's not the point!

If you keep saying 'soul destroying' it won't help. I'm sure the boys will be looking up. That's a much better way to approach it.
This soul destruction talk must stop!

It's the manner which we lost is the thing. So close but yet so far. I am somewhat optimistic but I know what a loss like that can do to you.

In fact I have a "culture of deference" to that sort of negativity.
That's a beauty.
Not so far you mean Thomond. Not so far at all!

Look, I know what soul destroying is. I remember the 91 summer tour and World Cup. Australia were light years ahead then and we thought the gap would never close.

That was the very low point Glas. My you've come a long way since then.
Tonight showed there's barely a ref's whistle-pea between the two teams.
I consider myself very lucky not to be reading chapters and sonnets on the Wales win.
Can you imagine how difficult that would be for me?
It would be like being a tiny yellow leaf getting swept down into a basement by a massive torrent of red-coloured liquid.

I know Breaker, but that helps me keep my sense of perspective on the loss as well. In 91 we'd have given anything to come within a kick of the Wallabies.

I've had a nice bun from Greggs, so all's good in the world now.
British people should give up getting married in the summer months. There's a wedding going on in the church up the road from my gaff. They've made so much effort - horse and carriage, Routemaster bus for the guests, everyone smartly dressed in tuxes and frilly frocks....and yet it is lashing down.

I completely understand where you're coming from Glas. I've had the same experiences many times following all my teams.
Worst for me is losing to India, England in the cricket, the ABs over the years (Oz has had many close games like Ireland had tonight).
You have to cop it sweet and keep the chin up and hope they can go that little bit better in the next outing.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
A guy sitting at a bar at Heathrow Terminal 3 noticed a really beautiful woman sitting next to him. He thought to himself: "Wow, she's so gorgeous she must be an off duty flight attendant. But which airline does she work for?"
Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and uttered the Delta slogan: "Love to fly and it shows?"
She gave him a blank, confused stare and he immediately thought to himself: "Damn, she doesn't work for Delta."
A moment later, another slogan popped into his head. He leaned towards her again, "Something special in the air?"
She gave him the same confused look. He mentally kicked himself, and scratched Singapore Airlines off the list.
Next he tried the Thai Airways slogan: "Smooth as Silk."
This time the woman turned on him, "What the F*** do you want?"
The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair, and said "Ahhhhh, Ryanair!!!

Stag, I think the performance matched the one against Aus in the World Cup. We can only get that fired up every now and again so I would also worry.
Hope I'm wrong though

Loved your joke Rava.
Years ago I was on a Pan Am flight and had a craving for bitter lemon.... love that stuff. Maybe I'd been bitten by a mozzy and was self-medicating??
The air hostess (as they were called back then) said: "A bit of WHAT?"

Right you lot:
Family holiday Scotland, England or Ireland. Nice hotel with spa facilities and decent food. Not too fussy on price. Within distance of entertaining places for a four year old. Any recommendations?

oho, I'd missed the first 5 mins, looks like Walsh made a booboo of a call over SA's first try.
But I forget, I'm Welsh, musn't criticise an official!

No, no, Shovey, you've got the rules all wrong - you must only not criticise the referee in your own game, otherwise you're welcome to do so!

Oh so that's where I've been going wrong And there was me thinking it was okay for people to criticise a bad display from an official regardless of who's playing, my mistake
How're you anyway Asbo? Pleased with Scotlands win? I hear Mr McVisser scored on his debut
Rodders - ah yeah, ye old wisdom tooth pain is no stranger to me, just I haven't had a flare up for months. I always forget how irritating it is! Still, got some wine/ginger beer (haven't decided what I'll have yet) waiting for me to take the pain away. Medicinal purposes you see.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Christchurch
I'm good thanks, tired from the early start - the Scotland win was good, but not impressive by any stretch and could have gone the other way if they'd tried to play any looser. MacVisser was good, with one non-win-related defensive lapse. Just watching poor England getting pummelled

Good to hear on the MacVisser front there then.
I was tempted yetserday to set my alarm to watch it, but didn't finish reading till midnight so slept through it anyway
Oof has Youngs scored? High tackle on him mind in the process of it. Will be an interesting decision anyways....
Barnes thinks it should be a penalty try.
Not sure about that as it wasn't the last defender who did it (although I'm a bit shaky on that particular law in rugby)
