Attendance at Aus v Wales
Was there a mix up with the marketing for this match? Did they accidentally advertise the Ospreys instead of Wales.
Looks like it's 2/3 full at best.

Rhonda
Most victorians have probably never heard of rugby let alone go to a game.

Aus never really fill their stadiums for the tri nations matches, so never mind the NH touring sides! They'd do well to get 30,000 into the 80,000 Olympic stadium next week

More like 40-50,000 next week I'd say, gowales.

Wales can't even beat a team where rugby is the 47th most popular sport.

BOGOf offer next season at the liberty, you going? Then again that would entail you having mates...maybe not.

There was a report earlier in the week about the attendances saying that most locals didn't know or care about the game as Aussies Rules is the main sport in the Melbourne area.

Rules is the main sport.
Lions will pack the place out next year though, it'll be like a home game for us I hope. I cannot wait, it'll be my first tour!

I think if Wales had won and it was level 1-1 going into Sydney we'd get 70-80,000 for the decider.

Well Melbourne still holds the largest attendance for any outdoor sporting event, the AFL Grand Final in 2011, of 99,537

But rugby is very low profile for the Mexicans...
(what us northern states call Victorians)

OzT - there have been much bigger attendances at the G over the years.
Slightly annoyed to discover that the final match is being played at the SFS which can only hold 42,000 and not out at Homebush.
I suppose it will 'feel' more intimate though.

Yeah Melbourne is the home of Aussie rules. MCG hosts the Grand Final every year and of the 18 teams in the AFL, 10 are based in Melbourne. Carlton, Geelong, Collingwood, Melbourne, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Essendon, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Richmond. West Coast Eagles are the best though

That page was only 2011 I think.
Events like Daytona get 350,000 (but some say motor racing is not a sport!)
World Cup in Rio had 199,000 (many club games also 150-175,000 before they reduced capacity of Maracana)
and of course 1970 VFL GF - 121,696 (I remember that number for some reason)
Bledisloe Cup 2000 was our biggest rugby crowd. 109,874. Was at the game. Also a 107,000 in there somewhere.
