The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Evening pub
Glas, if you're still about, saw your post in the last pub about places to stay with spa facilities. If I remember correctly you're already familiar with the Chester area? We stayed at this place for my mum's 70th and they were great with my niece who was 2 at the time. And Chester Zoo has to be a winner for a 4 year old!

Evening all. Tired.com
I spent the day at Homelanz, a (largely*) kiwi music festival. Have drunk far too much beer, wine and vodka, but got to watch the SA vs Eng match on a small tv with 50-odd Saffas** in a big tent. Their rendition of the SA national anthem was rather good too.
* there were some Aussie and Saffa acts, and food stalls. Including a biltong stall
** I do have to say that the bloke who regularly stood up near the front to talk to his mates was definitely not a nice South African, and he was rather unpopular with his compatriots too.

It's not a bad spot is it? I have to confess I've never been to Chester Zoo even though I now live less than an hour away Must take my niece there.

Yeah, I know I'm incredibly fortunate. Born and brought up on the eastern side of the Peak District and now live in the foothills of the western edge.

Knackered.com - long day today.
Well done to Scotland; keeping their flag flying high on tour.
The rest of us need to up it. It's not enough just to get close against the SH.
And England now know what most of Western Europe felt like in 1939/40. Blitzkrieg rugby from SA in that first half.
Congrats to the victors.

Do you have land out the back Swanny... if so maybe a new project for you & hubby?
I'm honoured to have a pub in Sydney. Nice place.
I went out before to pick up the papers and some milk in a t-shirt.... hang on, it's the blydi winter solstice next week! Air is a bit nippy though.

We have a (disused) outside toilet LB
Don't get me wrong, I love my mum to bits, but there's no way I could live that close to her. We're chalk and cheese and clash fairly often.
My sis is looking for somewhere for her family and my mum that will provide some independent space for my mum. They do exist but don't seem to be where we want them

Oh and you can stick your winter solstice! Summer solstice here next week and I've had the heating on and am wearing a fleece right now!
EDIT: Actually, on 2nd thoughts I'll swap you your winter solstice for our summer solstice. Sounds like it would be a drastic improvement!

I've just had a currawong (sleek crow-like bird) steal ALL of my purple berries.
Viburnum Tinus
Not a spectacular plant really but it's back to square one now. Happy to help the locals with some winter feed though.
Christmas cake sounds nice...
Just put some fleece on too. Sun has gone over the top and suddenly it feels quite cool.

Oh they look very like bilberries that we get here in early autumn, bilberries are rather squatter though. The plants are different too, they grow very close to the ground.
Christmas cake it is then
And I've just found a definite house possibility! Right area (just!), right price and right amount of accommodation!
Taking the 'quit while you're ahead' maxim on board I'm off to sleep now, it's almost 3.00 am here! Have a good day LB, catch you later

More bad news for Ireland. Gordon D'Arcy and Jamie Heaslip are both injured and out of the last test. Paddy Wallace has been called up to the squad. The first bit is the bad news. Not the second.
It means if we insist on McFadden as a winger our remaining centres are BOD, Cave and now Wallace. So a BOD/Cave combo?

Morning all, everyone well. I enjoyed our win yesterday but felt we got suckered into a Fijian style game too often, and Samoa could well have the players to punish us harder if we repeat against them
Happy Father's Day to all dad's in the pub &

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
So the final Wales match has been relegated to the smaller SFS (Alllianz Stadium) where we'd be lucky to get 35,000 to the match.
I find it a bit sneaky considering I purchased tickets through the ANZ (Olympic) Stadium website. It's a little disrespectful to Wales and Australian rugby fans. At least there's more options before and after the game so I better not whinge too much.
Kurtley Beale could be back according to this morning's papers. I'm actually quite proud of the Wallabies' efforts so far considering all the top quality players we have out through injury.
Did anyone else think Lydiate's effort at torpedo-ing himself into Pocock's back/neck area was a gutless act? Much worse than that idiot Vuna's 'indiscretion'... who really shouldn't be anywhere near the team. Anyway, AAC back to wing with Beale back.

On a serious point, since Wales haven't won in Aus since 1969, will anything but three wins be a failure for the Wallabies?

Totally agree with you there Glas. Doesn't matter whether Vuna meant it as a kind gesture or not (I can see what he meant), but he'd just dumped 1/2p on his head and the boy was getting treatment. 1/2p looked quite shocked when Vuna rubbed his head. You don't mess with anyone when they're getting treatment on the field.

Breaker - It's annoying that when commentators drag up these facts constantly. It's a good job the players can't hear them sometimes...no pressure lads, you just haven't won here for 100 years...

Tell me about it Cari.
Part of me was quietly hoping we'd lose... so we'd have three-of-a-kind - Scotland 2009, last Scotland match. That shut them up!

Tried to watch the replay of the match. No sorry, can't do it, I can not stand Gwyn Jones' commentary. Mick McCarthy has a voice which could make Keats sound like a list of building materials. Gwyn Jones could make "The Charge of the Light Brigade" sound boring. He is also sneers about the players. If you can't say anything nice...

I didn't like to see Danny do that myself Breaker. It was just like what Bakkies did to Adam on the Lions tour and what Ryan did to Adam Jones again (my poor Ad is always targetted ) in the Ire v Wales match in the 6N's. All I can say is good on the ref for calling it in the match, the other two got missed at the time they occurred. Think the ref was coming down hard on it though as I think Warbs suffered from the same treatment from an Aussie player earlier down in the game (which was why he was down injured receiving treatment to the back of the head. Same thing happened to him in the Wales v SA game in the rwc) . It seems to happen a lot though and from what I can gather, most people don't seem to see that there's anything wrong with it and it's "part of the game".
And morning all! Happy Father's day to Father's everywhere .
My parents have gone over to my grandparents for food, so I've been busy cleaning the house and am going to get a rhubarb crumble in the oven now for when my Dad get's back.

Good read Notch. At least he will still be around the team in his new role... a perfect transition into retirement.
On the same subject - Stirling Mortlock has officially announced his retirement today. He will play his last game for the Rebels at the end of the S15 season.

Morning all, Happy Father's Day to all our (known) Fathers in here. You don't know what's the stroy with Hughie like....
RD, there's nothing illegal with what Ryan did to Jones. It's a way to clear a ruck.

Thomond - I disagree with you completely. Slamming your shoulder (not using your arms) into someone who's back/neck/shoulder is exposed and they can't move is not a legitimate way to clear out a ruck.

I have no problem with it. If Jones wants to stand there and not secure the ruck he is going to get hit. You're not going to get pinged for it and you don't deserve to be . That goes for anyone who does it.
