First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Same!

Hmmm Team GB are having a mixed day. They're either winning well, or losing the races. Nothing in between!

Fair enough Rd, I don't see much problem with it, if you lack such spatial awareness and the fact it is a legitimate counterruck technique I think you deserved to get hit!

ha! Yeah it'll be just GB's luck to be winning Gold's all throughout the worlds and then to not get them at the Olympics...

If there's one person who I want to win gold though it's Katherine Granger. She's come so, SO close on sooo many occasions and just missed out.

Thom - how is it legitimate counterruck technique when he didn't use his arms, when the law states specifically that a player must do so? Smile And no, I still think Bradley's a twonk.

Ryan doesn't wrap his arms but he still uses his arms to some extent. I don't see too much proble, with it. You can do that similar thing by using your arms, like a blocking technique in American football. That's how it's usually done. I don't consider it cheap, a bit of order but don't have a huge problem with the way people do it now.

Also Wales V Oz game in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esdXiJg1i4o&list=UULDuHINtL5GN1PMroNv-hxQ&index=1&feature=plcp If you have a YT account I would say subscribe. He puts up a lot of Rugby matches.

It's not a legitimate counter-ruck technique, Thomond - cheap shot more like!

We've already had controversy in the rowing (women's eights) last week... they kicked this girl out because she didn't get on with the rest; she got sent home, won an appeal and is now back in Europe training with her crew... who hate her guts. First 'Lay down Sally'... now this. steam

LB, maybe it's just me but I don't really consider it cheap. Donnacha Ryan's one wasn't too bad. Haven't seen Lydiate's. I didn't use it and never have but I'm not a big guy so I prefer lifting the legs!

Surely it's better for the team as a whole if she's not there though? If they can't stand her, h ow can they work as effectively as possible together? Sounds like it hasn't been handled v well regardless!

No idea about the Ryan one... whether he used his arms or not but the Lydiate one reminded me of what the ABs did so well for so long. That's why the laws were changed to prevent a disaster from happening.

That's exactly what I thought but these sporting women are obviously very thick skinned. Smile
She's a reserve - which would make it even more awkward.
The funny thing is - we abolished the Women's eights crew for a few years (since Beijing I think) then only in the last few months they got a crew back together and they won some lead up race a few weeks back. Then the split happened. This surely must affect their performance?

Jesus that was worse than Ryan's! Elbows him straight in the head!

Ryan's was body which is bad,not that bad (if it's eradicated fair enough, you can do it with a slightly different technique) but that kind of stuff from Lydiate isn't on.

This is a cool flag;

Spoiler:
All the regions/countries settled (or allegedly settled, I understand Galicia is up for debate) by the Celtic people. I'm not sure if that means anything anymore after such a long time and the sustained establishment of separate national identities and cultures. A feel there is a strong affinity between Scotland and Ireland with Ulster a halfway house between the two cultures in many ways but... Galicia? Wales? Cornwall? I'm not sure how much I identify with them.

What Lydiate did isn't ideal, but in no way is it worse than what Vuna did. What an absurd suggestion. Just because it's on Pocock's head doesn't make it worse than Ryan's either. Pocock's position and Adam Jones' position dictate where the contact occurs. Are you telling me that Ryan wouldn't have charged in if it was Adam Jones' head showing like Pocock's was?

There's obviously nothing wrong with what Lydiate did, or he'd have been cited. I wouldn't say I agree with it, but Wales were obviously annoyed enough with Pocock after the first test. It's reckless, but it hasn't warranted a card, nor a citing.

can't believe it! circumstances are a bit funny mind. He got DQ'd (or defaulted) due to in his frustration kicking at one of the advertising boards which ended up hitting the linejudge and cutting a line judge's leg. He's broken a player code violation so he had to go. So strange!

Ireland U20 are 7-0 up against England after 14 mins though the men in white have probably been the better side overall.

Wales v NZ later in the U20s. One thing is for sure. With those two teams you can bet it will be the referees fault no matter the scoreline. . . . .

Oh dear, it looks like the Wales U20's have just as many lineout problems as our senior side, the commentator was amazed when we secured one!

The lineout has been a problem in Wales for years and I just don't get why.

Its weird isnt it Dreamer. I mean Ireland has had a rubbish scrum but thats really just been as we have a bad batch of players at the minute. However the U20s are doing ok at the scrum. Just did very well defending a 5m scrum against England. Still 14-0

I thought we scrummaged magnificently against the All Blacks at times. That was no callow front row they put out and we eventually gained the ascendancy. We have problems at tighthead, but in my opinion it's overstated. We had one disastrous day against England there, but that was due to not having a tighthead on the bench and just a great showing from them at scrum time. We have the quality not the depth.

For me, our attacking play and lack of creativity and penetration in the backs has been a bigger factor in us playing well below our potential than the scrum is.

Yes I agree now Notch but for a fair few seasons it has been a bit of a weakness especially that period when Healy was still fresh and when we were mucking about with Buckley and Hayes as first choice tighheads circa 2010.

Anyway its 17-0 nil now to Ireland U20s

I think that Carrottop Nelson has had a very good tournament and would serve Ulster well in the Pro 12.

A good old set of handbags there. A big dust up where all 30 lads involved and yet nobody throws a punch.

Yes, Peter Nelson and Iain Henderson are guys I have very high hopes for. And Paddy Jackson of course, but he's already seen plenty of gametime.

The question with Henderson is where we play him. I think with Ferris being fragile and with Ireland he might slot in at 6 in some Pro12 games. Nelson at 15 would be grand.
