First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Not sure if Rava has a pool but Ravaland is a really nice spot, you have the Giants Causeway, Portrush, Bushmills etc. all in close proximity

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Stag has a point tbh. The last few big games involving the Welsh team and sides in the HC has been met with severe criticism of the ref or a player witchhunt. Not by everyone btw. There's some momentum building tho. I fail to see what an email to the IRB and WRU will accomplish. Are refs not assessed per game anymore
Personally I though Rolland gave us hardly anything yesterday but he's 2 ft from the action....

He'd have had a point if posters were actually blaming the ref for a loss. They're not. Shame that people can't see that.

Some are though. You can't just ignore that. The first few comments after that match seemed to be wondering how it was a penalty etc. I'm not saying Irish people don't do it (we do), but it's less frequent and we look at our own limitations first.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Shovey, I'm sure in your head and in the heads of most other posters, that is the case, but to the outsider tbh, the line is much finer and hence the danger that such comments can come across as sour grapes - not saying that the comments themselves are wrong btw, just noting how they might be perceivedrugbydreamer wrote:Stag - you clearly haven't read the thread in question then and as such I find your generalisations quite distasteful and tiresome. No Welsh poster has blamed the ref for the loss. They've blamed the ref for there not being a level playing field. There's a huge difference right there. Again, just disappointing you can't see that and are just falling back on a stereotype you seem to want to believe in.
Just really disappointed by your comments Stag.

IRB Junior World Championship
Wales Under 20 6 - 30 New Zealand Under 20
Wales were beaten but not bowed by New Zealand in this afternoon's IRB Junior World Championship semi-final in South Africa. The young Dragons became the first team to beat New Zealand in the five years of this tournament, winning 9-6 in the Pool stages, but the reigning champions were too strong on this occasion, scoring four tries to nil.
Wales were understandably buoyed by their earlier victory over the Baby Blacks and began this game at a rate of knots. Tom Prydie kicked penalties after eight and 15 minutes to give Danny Wilson’s side a 6-0 lead and might have increased the advantage to nine had he have found his range at the end of the opening quarter.
Wales showed that their impressive, unbeaten run so far in this competition was no fluke and displayed great composure in defence and dominated the forward play. Even when New Zealand set up a wonderful opportunity to score, after a quickly taken free kick from Jordan Taufua, the Welsh backs bundled centre Jason Emery in to touch.
Ihaia West’s penalty, after Wales had been adjudged offside in midfield, halved the deficit 14 minutes before the interval, and two minutes later, another rampaging break from the New Zealand forwards resulted in a second West penalty.
At times, Wales were a touch aimless with their kicking – Tom Habberfield finding touch on the full when an opportunity to utilise his back division was most certainly a better option. That said, it was a Welsh performance full of vim and vigour with Cory Allen’s tackle on Emery an example of Welsh defiance and Matthew Morgan’s counter-attack from deepproviding further confirmation of the team’s potency going forward.
Unfortunately, with two minutes remaining before the interval, Wales lost scrum ball and found themselves behind for the first time in the game. New Zealand set themselves up in front of the Welsh posts and blindside flanker Jimmy Tupou was driven over for a try West duly converted.
Only five points behind at half time, trailing 13-6, Wales conceded a second try two minutes into the second half through impressive centre Jason Emery, Ihaia West converting.
Wales had gained far too much confidence during this tournament to give up the ghost and minutes later put together a series of phases which saw the ball pass through almost every player’s hands, and taking Wales all the way to the New Zealand 5 metre line before giving away a penalty at the breakdown. Unfortunately for Wales, that hard work was to no avail and from West’s clearance kick, New Zealand gained a penalty from the ensuing line-out, kicked to touch and No 8 Taufua showed his strength to go over in the corner, taking the score to 25-6 on 60 minutes.
New Zealand’s fourth try came two minutes later, loosehead prop Ofa Tu'ungafasi going over from close range but despite further advances by both sides, the defences held up until the final whistle.
Wales Under 20 head coach Danny Wilson said: “We are proud of the boys, there was no lack of effort but at the end of the day, we are disappointed. We were beaten by a better side on the day, their breakdown was better than ours, but we certainly didn’t perform as we have in our other matches in the tournament either.
"Our accuracy was quite poor, we didn’t take the opportunities we had, whereas New Zealand took theirs. We had a real go at playing some rugby in the second half, but again, we weren’t accurate enough to put pressure on a good team.
“The score line is far from a disgrace against the four times champions, but the players have already stated they are determined to go out on Friday and win our final match to finish third in the world. That is something no other Welsh team has done and we will prepare as well as we have done for every other game in order to do that.”
Scorers
Wales: Pens: Prydie (2)
New Zealand: Tries: Tupou, Emery, Taufua, Tu'ungafasi; Cons: West (2); Pens: West (2)
See, Blydi sore losers.

Swanny made a good suggestion in here last night/early this morning in answer to that question Glas. Did you see it?
Get a nice hotel somewhere in Donegal. There's no more beautiful part of Ireland than Donegal imo. Antrim Coast is very nice, but rugged. Donegal is more beautiful beaches, it's stunning. I've been out with my family in the past in this very nice hotel in Dunfanaghy called Arnolds. Dunfanaghy is a beautiful spot. But it's more of a old fashioned family-run hotel. No pool.
But if you're willing to stump up for a 4-star hotel, there's the Shandon which has a pool and a spa and all the rest of it.
http://www.shandonhotel.com/
It's in an incredibly beautiful location. Really scenic. So many amazing walks and plenty to do.

Afraid I cant recommend anywhere Glas. Ive heard of a few places but no idea if they are child friendly.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Clearly you have never been to Cork..... Donegal is supposed to be a nice spot alright. In Ireland, parts of Kerry are nice. Most hotels have pools (Quality Suites supposed to be alright) and there's the Aquadome Leisure centre in Tralee, massive pool and also facilities like mini golf and a few other spots. There's Trabolgan in Cork which is a holiday villa too and has most of the same stuff. It also has performances from Barney and Fireman Sam for the little one. Also Go Karting (I think) and things like golf: http://www.trabolgan.com/
Holland a goal up. Fantastic goal, nice build up, amazing strike.

Donegal is a good shout Notch but is it child friendly? Thought there'd be more to do for kids along the North coast?
There seems to be lots to do in Fermanagh if outdoor activities are your bag too but you can't go wrong with the North coast I think.
Galway maybe?

If it's the person I think then its water off a ducks back mate... don't really recall the Dagg incident to be honest but these things are all swings and roundabouts anyway...sure we didn't score from the penalty anyways...

Tell you what this AB side is very beatable, definitely missing the physicality of Thorn and Kaino. Sort the restarts out next week and perform with this intensity for 80min and we'll beat them I think...you heard it hear first .

I'm defending champion T! You ain't got nothing bro. 6 shots off the lead though. I need Garcia to have a decent round.
In pepe and alves Portugal have 2 pretty solid centre backs. Lack of midfield cover is an issue.

You won't be defending for much longer.... (won't be by me) but you will lose. I'm fourfteen percent sure (not a typo, simpsons reference). I need a lot of fellas to have a decent round. I think I picked a fella who isn't playing! Woods, Harrington and Dufner need big days. Picked Rory and Day and they flopped
Portugal could be decent they sometime struggle when they attack, they are okay defensively ride their luck at time.

Do you think that Ireland always seem to play better against the SH teams? I'm not just referring to the game against Aus lin the RWC, but generally? They seem to turn out a better variety of rugby, smarter (but not always smart enough), greater intensity (usually, forget about last week). If we were to do the same in the 6Ns we would have a much better record in that tournament.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Not sure about that Kia, I suppose you tend to remember the big performances...we've done fairly well against SA and Australia in the past decade but for every tight one against the ABs we've shipped a big defeat too, especially recently.
I'd say we perform best when our back are against the wall and I suppose that happens a fair bit against the SH.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Not saying we always come within a hair's breath of winning, Notch, I am saying more about how we play.
I remember when I played tennis (fairly) seriously. In tournaments when I was drawn against a much better player, I always played my best. I usually lost, but it was a better game from me. My problem was that i could not reproduce the same quslity against players who were much worse than I was.
I think it is much the same with the ShHteams. EO'S on RTE last night, commented that Aus had played ABs 15 times in the last 4 years (I think it was 4) and have won twice. Aus are used to playing the ABs and therefore can work out how to beat them. We play them once in a while, relatively, and therefore KNOW we have to play far smarter than against NH sides (who we know very well) in order to try and stay in the game. therefore we play a better game of rugby ...

That's right Rose.
We've had more more experience at coping with those close losses and more opportunity to have another crack at them in BC matches.
It's never easy though. What happened to Ireland (lose by 1-3 points) on Saturday has happened to the Wallabies about 20 times!
