The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Morning Billy. They are like prisons, they can not afford for you to want to stay.
I hope everybody has calmed down today. It got a bit heated yesterday. Time heals, so if any of you still feel hot under the collar take a break is my advice. Feel free to ignore it, of course.
Thanks Kia, Mrs G is reviewing the options.
Off to the Physio now for my monthly torture.

It was a double whammy weekend. I think the U20s match was the last straw.
I was too busy dealing with some trouble-makers on the match thread - so I missed most of it.

Morning all. Had a very late one last night (3.30am) watching the golf. GMac just came up short. Finished second though so he can be well pleased. Harrington had a great back nine to get into the top five.
Full steam ahead now for the Irish Open in just over a weeks time. North Coast will be buzzing.

It did get a bit heated, but I put it down to massive disappointment for the respective fans, after games their teams could (should?) have won.
Consoling all round should have been shown.
I didn't see the games, so couldn't comment on the issues.

He may.
Watchurst and Coundley don't feature for us, Gustafson is now a converted hooker and the two tight heads who feature in our 23's (Buck and Way) don't scrummage very well.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Thats good to hear. Although he is by no means great I think that he could be a decent option in time. I don't believe that during a time when we are desparate for tightheads that a guy who has played regularly in the Top 14, Premiership, Italian League, has taken on the All Blacks, played in an Amlin Cup final and is now for a Welsh region can offer nothing. There must be a way to harness that.
That is absolutely amazing experience and exposure to new cultures. He has literally just turned 27 so there is still plenty of life left in his rugby career. Munster should be looked his way when he is finished with Dragons especially as Botha will be on his way out then so we will need an Irish prop.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
MrsP,
Basically as I understand it he was on his way out at Munster and turned in a truly top class performance against the All Blacks in the game against Munster.
Toulon coach Philippe Saint Andre signed him literally on the back of that 1 match. However he wasn't really of the caliber of a team like that and they opted to bring in Carl Hayman from Newcastle instead. Newcastle who were without a prop took Ryan in exchange.
I don't know why he left Newcastle to be honest but I know he did very well initially. Graham Rowentree was quite complimentary of him when he took on Andrew Sheridan. I remember reading his comments about it.
Literally no idea why he left the Falcons but apparently the reason he left Prato was that the level wasn't high enough and he wanted back into the Celtic League.
I just hope we do something about him. He is also eligable for the USA.

Sheridan is too tall for a prop. Get under him and you've got him.

Thanks Stag.
Just seems a bit "sus" to change clubs every year.
Sun shining here again today. Good to see it back after all that rain!
Good weekend for the kids' athletics club. Just had the Ulster Age Group Championships. 2 years ago the club came away from that weekend with 15 medals. Last year they got 36. This weekend it looks like the kids won an amazing 60 medals!

Stag has most of the stuff on Timmy spot on, I'd say part of the reason he went to Italy as his brother is there. Dave's technique has come on a hell of a lot since then so Timmy's would have improved tremendously as well with the other experiences. I have never heard of him being a bad influence. They're a very nice family.

He did very poorly at Toulon didn't he? Of course, that doesn't mean much. He may be a late bloomer but I'm going to wait and see how he performs before deciding whether he's an option at any level for Ireland.
Saw the Nalbandian incident at Queens. Crazy! Disappointing to see it end like that but 100% the right decision.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18480270
He's injured that man. He's gone too far to be talking about getting frustrated and the comments about the ATP were maybe not the most appropriate thing either. He doesn't seem to be taking responsibility for his own actions there.

A feicing dope is what Nalbandian is. If you kick a side hoarding why not go to the one where there isn't a man sitting in it! He loses any prize money he would have won too. I don't know if he should have been thrown out, mainly as if I paid to go, I would be peeved I didn't get to see a full game.

...Or better yet...why not control your temper like an adult?
He should definately have been thrown out. Shame for the spectators but there is no way he could have continued after that.
Henman was DQ'd in a doubles match at Wimbledon a while back for hitting a ball in anger just as a "ballgirl" ran across the court. Much less serious incident but he was DQ'd all the same.

Well, isn't there a rule in football that if too many players get injured/sent off the game is abandoned? In other sports it would be a straight red card. I feel sorry for the spectators but Nalbandian didn't deserve to be allowed to continue unfortunately.

100% the right decision and hopefully there will be a suspension as well. I'm sure the spectators were gutted and rightly so. I hope there will be some sort of refund for them although I'm sure there was some other tennis on after the Men's final.

It's Mum's apple shortcake - looks like it's the version with tinned fruit salad (I think it's callled "fruit cocktail" in the UK) added on top of the apple.

It is hard enough to control your anger on the tennis court. Nalbandian was out of order, he should not have taken his frustration out in that way. He might have been better off msashing his record or just focusing on the next shot.
