First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

I think our Mum's would get on well, Kiwi... she's always baking stuff too and Gran was from Nelson. I'll forward your Mum's website link to her. OK

100% the right decision and hopefully there will be a suspension as well. I'm sure the spectators were gutted and rightly so. I hope there will be some sort of refund for them although I'm sure there was some other tennis on after the Men's final.

He's lost the match, all his prize money, all his making-the-final ranking points and hence a seeded spot at Wimbledon. I think that's a pretty decent penalty even without a ban.

Utter stupidity and carelessness on Nalbandian's part.

Is there a particular reason it is such an issue for the ABs?

Is it because of the name?

They had a sponsor before like. Don't see why it's such a big deal. Was a bigger deal for Barca when they got sponsored by the Qatar foundation. Barca had paid to have Unicef on their jersies for about 5 years.

Dunfanaghy is a good call Notch (stayed at Arnolds years ago). Surely Glas you can entertain little Miss G on the beach - how good are your sand-castle building skills?

Morning all. The pub I was at for lunch yesterday had a sign on the door "We welcome well behaved children before 6pm"

Sad news for cricket fans - 23 year old Surrey player Tom Maynard, son of Glamorgan and England batsman Mathew was hit by a tube train and killed this morning, apparently while avoiding police who'd pulled over his car earlier. Maynard was at school with Sam Warburton and Gareth Bale.

Just found out abot this rollercoaster in Colorado. You go 7,160 above sea level. That's double the height of Ireland's tallest mountain! I have to go there!

Awful news. Not a cricket fan, but I see it's affected a lot of the Welsh Rugby lads. RIP Tom.

It's around the same height as Aorangi Mt Cook, NZ's tallest mountain. I think I want to go too.

Legoland doesn't have many coasters but the London one was great craic as a wee lad. Must scrape some shekels together to try and get over at some stage.

Is it safe to talk about "Contact with a player in the air" incidents in here or will it cause....an atmosphere?

Not meaning any particular incident just a general query I have?

I really am not talking about a particular incident. Just a general query.

A high ball with players from both teams running towards it from different directions.

Team "A" guy gets there fractionally earlier than team "B" and jumps. Team "B" guy decides that jumping is a bad idea and stops. Team "A" guy has forward momentum and so travels as he jumps, clattering into team "B" guy.

Is team "B" guy always in the wrong? Is it just tough luck that he "causes" team "A" guy to fall?

I have seen this happen quite a few times and team "B" guy always gets the blame but I am not convinced he should.

Any thoughts?

Cirque Du soleil, prop. Disney World is the most expensive of the parks. I think you get better value in other ones but it is certainly a magical spot. Go to Fantasmic if you can, outstanding show!

I wouldn't say anyone is in the wrong there MrsP. It depends on the incident. For example on Saturday, Dagg raised his elbow and caught Kearney in the neck/head. Therefore it was a penalty. If "B" waits till your man gets to grounk then it's no problem.

MrsP,

I don't see how what you describe isn't a penalty.

- Both players running for the ball
- One player jumps for the ball
- The other doesn't and ends up taking out a guy in the air

Penalty all day long. Why doesn't he contest for the ball. If it is because he is too far away to contest they he should be able to get out of the way.

I think sometimes guy "B" decides if he jumps he will take the other guy out so he pulls up after the other guy is in the air.

Is he obliged to get out of the way of guy "A" ?

Surely if guy "A" has jumped and jumps into another player it is guy "A"'s fault.

Maybe I misunderstood it MrsP (its fairly like!!) Very Happy

I have to say though I disagree with your take on it.

Player A is jumping in the air and going for the ball.

Player B has ran in order to contest the ball and decided last minute that he wont contest it and would rather stand underneath the ball.

Penalty all day long if Player A falls IMO.

I see your point, Mrs P. If player B decides at the last minute not to compete for the ball and has only a split-second to get out of the way then that's easier said than done.

Afternoon all,

Just in the middle of the Irish Sea on my way back home to see my Mummy and Daddy. I always finds boats a surreal experience especially as a foot passenger.

I tried to exchange Dirams at the Bureau de Change but they didn't accept them even though they say all rates are available. Grrrr.

Yeah Lucky. That's my feeling on it. I think it happens fairly frequently and I think a lot of the time there isn't much guy "B" can do except get clattered by guy "A" and give away a pen or get a card.

Sometimes it almost seems that the guy who jumps knows full well what he's doing.

My Uncled lived in Naples, lives about an hour outside Tampa. I love Florida. Houses are so feicing chepa there at moment. A 606 timeshare any one Whistle

The Florida Mall is one great spot to shop, you can't really go wrong there. It has a store dedcated to M&Ms for crying out loud. I would suggest another kind of carnival place called Fun Spot if you're into go-karting and arcade games. (The fact that you can't play Skee-Ball in Ireland is a travesty) Plenty good spots around Orlando although some of it is dodgy.

Rav. I might have been there aroudn that same time actually that was only aroudn 5 years ago was it? Busch Gardens is probably the best for the coasters in Florida, such variety and the wildlfie part of it is astounding. As for Seaworld, when I was little I got to do a show there. Met a seal called "Seamore" great day.

MrsP - I think your reading too much into it. If the situation is as described the Player A is just trying to catch the ball. He doesnt "know full well what he is doing". He isn't trying to take himself out in the air.

Can you give me an example from a recent match in case Im imagining this wrong.

One thing that I do agree with you on is where the jumping player sticks out their leg studs first to "protect themselves". Thats dangerous and a penalty I think. I know Munsty will agree with me.

It's a way of protecting yourself from gettign clattered. If someone wants to challenge they better be prepared for a kick in the balls! I was taught to catch like that or with a knee raised. Your safety is most important when you're goign for a high ball. I wouldn't midn seeing less people do it however.

Thomond - regardless of whether you were taught to or not kicking people in the balls is not legal.

Its illegal and rarely pinged. Tommy Bowe is a terror for it.

Is it actually illegal? Technically you're not doing anything wrong, they're running into you. Also I think you're being a bit condescending me there. It's almost liek you're calling me a scumbag. Surprised by that kind of behaviour.

The knee raised is a better technique anyhow. Protects the ribs.

Woah woah Thomond pal. Nothing of the sort.

Putting a knee up is common. You protect yourself and minimise chances of a knock on.

Sticking out your leg studs up is what I am talking about. You were the one who said "be prepared for a kick in the balls" - a clear sign it is dangerous.

Not saying your a "scrumbag" at all pal. Muchos respekt!!

I have to say though I disagree with your take on it.

Player A is jumping in the air and going for the ball.

Player B has ran in order to contest the ball and decided last minute that he wont contest it and would rather stand underneath the ball.

Penalty all day long if Player A falls IMO.
Habana is a very good example of chasing a ball, he realises beforehand whether he will be able to contest or not, if he realises he can't contest, then he stop and waits for the player to hit ground before he drives into him.

Biltong but in that situation he waits for the player to hit the ground and drives into him.

In MrsP situation he stops so close that the jumping player can't help but hit into him.

Okay,

Can't think of any recent examples that I am prepared to mention.

But if a player is static and another player jumps and makes contact it is almost always the static player who gets penalised.

If someone is running for a ball you are not obliged to get out of their way. Where does it say that you have to get out of the way of a player who has chosen to make himself air borne?

I think this is known as the 'Lee Byrne' technique.

Sure sounded like it Stag. It's only dangerous if the guy wants to compete for it, it's a way of increasing your chances of winning the ball.

Stag, I know the icident she is talking about, can't remember who it was that "stopped" but hit Halfpenny.

He didn't stop, he had forward momentum and hit Halfpenny on the hip with his shoulder which upended Halfpenny.
