The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Well you never know. Watch the news. Might see something Suggesting A Story .
Good Aussie side. Have to try finding a bar in Playa De Las Americas open at 7am local for it. Have Welsh shirt with me just in case.

Lucky this is a very silly thing to say to Stag. He has been brought up believing this is the main quality of a fly-half

So would you prefer an outside half who's first instinct is not to kick, being told to kick?

Now you are trying to confuse things Glas. I would just play James Hook who doesn't do what he is told.

No Glas, that's why I said that Biggar should be ideally suited to our current kick-happy gameplan.

All you have to remember is that Howley is a Muppet. Gatland is keeping his cards close to his chest pending his return. If we'd have lost three nil under him not picking the right team I'd be worried.

I'm not sure why Gatland has turned a team, who naturally run with the ball, into a bunch of 'kick chasers'. He never coached Wasps like that. True, we also used the blitz defence, but there the comparison ends.
That kicking game handed the second test to Aus. They should have trusted themselves to close put the game with ball in hand.
England also handed SA the match deciding score via a poor kick from Joseph. Too deep and an ineffective, disjointed, defensive line.

Hound isn't Gatland offer recovering from that ladder fall. They weren't that much of kick chasers in the 6 Nations.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Hound, have been thinking that England are seriously missing some carrying in their boiler-room - between Parling, Botha and Palmer across both tests, they have carried for a mere 40m in total - do you think that puts England at a distinct disadvantage? Is there an obvious solution?Hound_of_Harrow wrote:I'm not sure why Gatland has turned a team, who naturally run with the ball, into a bunch of 'kick chasers'. He never coached Wasps like that. Hound, initially under Gatland we were holding on to the ball and doing the annoying all-the-way-to-one-touchline-and-back-again thing without making much ground. Then we switched to this kicking game, but crucially the playmakers in the team were given licence to play outside that gameplan as things developed in front of them. Whether Priestland's confidence is so shot that he doesn't look at other options or that licence has been revoked, I don't know; but it's deeply frustrating watching us choosing to defend rather than attack.

Lawes might give us more go forward in the second row, As. Possibly Launchberry too, in time.
True, lucky. Wales were going side to side a lot. But with a decent crop of centres now I don't get the kicking game.
Laters folks, I'm at the office in Exe.

There was one in Armidale a week or so back. Only a 4.9. We get thousands of little ones all the time in Oz but they're usually 'out back of Woop-woop' and apart from a few startled lizards and birds... no damage. Newcastle '89 was our worst I think.

How is all with you my wooly friend. Tell that lurvly secretary of yours I didn't mean what I said about Welsh and the referees.
Well I did mean it but tell her sorry if she is cheesed off by it.
You glad to be crossing swords with Leinster or would you have rathered Munster again?

Roy Keane has more talent in his baby finger than Keith Andrews ever will. So no.

Yes but Keith Andrews is now our defensive midfielder whose temper bubbled over during a major competition. He was also described by the Irish Times as "our best player of the tournament".
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Stag, that's not saying a lot. Andrews played well but that's like saying Monaghan United were in a better financial state than Galway United (both clubs went to the wall)
Keano is a legend who was one of the msot gifted midfielders in Irish history and will go down as a Manchester United legend and a legend of the game. The only Irishman to make the top 100 players of all time list made by Fifa. To compare Andrews to Keane is tarnishing Keane's legacy

Yea but he was from Cork so you'd think that
In reality Roy Keane is not behind his own fans, he was sacked for being disruptive towards his team mates, always felt he was bigger than his national team and is considered a controversial figure even within his own country and for the clubs he played for.
Is Keane the new Gavin Henson?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Not worth debating Stag. He is a controversial figure in Ireland, I wouldn't say United fans find him too controversial though. He is blatantly honest, and was gotten rid of at United for a lot of reasons really, some was the criticism he had with is team mates, he also had an argument with Fergie. Are irish fan behind his statements last week? Somewhere in the middle, I would agree with some of his points but he is being a bit OTT with them.

I'm disgusted by the negative press that Keane has gotten for telling it like it is. The guy has given so much for his country but gets no respect or love from the people.......
It's clear that Keane is the new Paddy Wallace.....
