The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Sydney, as it prepares to host the final test match of the Australia v Wales series.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Kiwi, Linebreaker, Biltong and Asbo above the bar.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
Morning all
Good to see you're on the mend Billy.
Am sat at court again waiting for the jury to reach a verdict. It's been a long tiring fortnight and yesterday I lost another colleague. Found dead in his bed, cause of death unknown. He had alcohol problems so am guessing it is related, but never nice to lose one of the police family, and even more so as it was someone I worked with previously, and I was the duty DC when it was called in last night so had to deal with it.
Man I need a holiday, roll on the end of July and a weeks break in the Cotswolds.

No problem Bildozer, keep fighting the good fight. Enjoying your contributions to the football boards. Surprised a Clare man knows anything about it really.

Cheers guys. It's been a bit rough but I am lucky, I get to go home and get cuddles off my wee girlies at the end of every day. Plenty of people worse off than me, and I know that I have a lovely break away with the family to look forward to.
It is so boring sitting here waiting for 12 people to make up their minds. 5 men and 7 women on this jury............ I'm saying nothing!

I’ve been on a jury before Pete, it was a pretty obvious decision in my eyes but it took two days to come to a unanimous decision.
Mainly because at the heart of it, most people are very stupid.

Classic Simpsons is the best. Futurama is also another great show. Starting in US tomorrow. Might watch it on the internets.

Mah, I watch Futurama because it’s on. Zapp Brannigan is funny, Zoidberg has his moments but not a fan of Bender, Fry, the Prof, Amy, Leila or Hermes.

You can't beat a classic episode of the Simpsons. Take the Jebediah Springfield - Hans Sprungfeld one, or the one where Lisa finds the angel skeleton. Genius.

I've got two questions for you. Onee where's the fife. Two, givem the fife.
Really? Mick, I think it's a bit underrated. South Park is alright from the bits I've seen of it but sometimes it seems to be obnoxious for the sake of it rather than for comedy.

Hereeeeeeeeeeeeee’s Jonny Cakes.
I think South Park is the best satire on tv. And the fact that they can create an episode in 6 days (rather than 6 months for the Simpsons) I think it makes it more current, and more relevant. As well as (these days) being FAR funnier.

They’re all class.
There’s one where they legalise medicinal cannabis so Randy puts his balls in the microwave to grow a tumor so that he can get legal weed.
Ok, that doesn’t SOUND funny, but watching him carry his balls in a wheelbarrow while singing “Buffalo Soldier” was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Anything Randy centric is good, the one where he takes the worlds biggest crap or the one where he tries to learn to play guitar hero are doozies too.

What about Kif? Got to have love for Kif. But mainly as a comic foil to Zap Brannigan.
"Kif, I have made it with a woman. Inform the men!"
Classic Simpsons is one of the great TV shows of all time, head and shoulders above any animated program since. Absolutely superb. Current Simpsons just makes me sad for what it used to be.
It's basically the TV equivalent of Gordon D'Arcy.

Do the Simpsons very occasionally, at strategic moments (like HEC Finals) still produce the sort of form they haven't seemed capable of for several seasons and so completely derail Ulster's game plan?

It has it's moments but you'd have to wade through a lot of sub-par stuff to find it.
Not sure if I'm still using this metaphor. Mainly talking about the TV show now.

Well done Mickado. You must be doing something right! Keep it up.
So sad to hear about Ozzie's mate.
So, June 21 is here now... winter solstice. Earliest sunset at 4:54pm and it hovers around there for a few days. However July and August always seem the coldest here in Oz. How does that work? It's like a time lag or something?
-8 last night down south and more snow to be dumped tomorrow on the highlands.

Don’t know why July and August are colder for you but January and February are always colder up here too.
4.54pm sunset at winter solstice is bloody luxury. You can take an hour off that up here, we hardly get any sun at that time of the year. on the flip side it won’t get dark till after 11pm tonight.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sydney
It's called seasonal lag or something. It happens because the seas absorb the heat from the sun and it takes a month or so after the summer solstice for that heat to be lost (so the northern hemisphere's still hot in July and August). The opposite happens in winter because the cold seas keep temperatures down for a month or two after the winter solstice.
