Last week Lancaster was "proud" about defeat. This week Eng lost.
This week BOD is "proud" about defeat. Guess what will happen.
NH team need to stop being "proud" when they losing. Then first step to winning.

Actually from a Scot's POV ... you're right AWOP.
Are you getting soft?

Moreso we have literally the best winger in the world on our team so we will never lose again. Isn't his scoring record (inc for Barbarians) better than Ashton's and S Williams' combined?
On another note can't wait to see Greig score an actual standoff's try

Re: Scotland 2 for 2
After a wooden spoon it's good Scottish fans have something to cheer about, they have beat what was put in front of them.
I said before their tour the heat and humidity in the South Sea islands is horrific and Scotland survived it and won again. I just hope you know don't get caught like Wales did in 1994.
I do think Scotland will fall further behind though in the next 6 nations. Wales, England and Ireland going against the best in the World and improving against the highest standard of opposition. Scotland are now playing Tier B nations and when the pressure is on in the 6 nations that will put Scotland at a further disadvantage.

Lads, let's mot get carried away - one supreme defensive effort to beat Oz and a Pacific Island humidity-sapping win against a Fijian team largely consisting of semi-pro and amateur players. Those are the facts. Right enough, cut away the context and it is a 2-0 series for us so far

Spot on!
Its good to see Scottish rugby having something to cheer about, but the problem is a win over an Australian B side and Tier 2 Nations has the effect of papering over cracks in Scottish Rugby. The 6 Nations is the benchmark for them and after constantly being told that progress is happening they finished up with a wooden spoon. Scotland coaches these days, Robinson in particular, seem t survive on the back of the odd win and then live off that despite the side failing consistently. The net result is I get the impression Scotland are drifting further away from the other nations.

I disagree, whilst we haven't played a three test series against a big team we have played a game against Australia (albeit with a lot of second choice players) and we won, we also beat Fiji away which isn't easy at all in very hard conditions. Also had Scotland played a three test series then we would probably lost all three which, especially after the six nations and the world cup, would have been catastrophic to the confidence of our young players whereas this tour has enabled us to build up partnerships and gain some confidence again. We've also managed to get together a strong backline and if you add that to our pack which is very strong then we are in a position to compete.
It's not as if we're not playing the big three at all, we play New Zealand and South Africa in the Autumn as well as Tonga, that means that within six months we will have played each of the big three and the pacific nations. When the pressure is on in the six nations Scotland will have to prove themselves obviously but I think from now on we will see a much stronger Scotland.

Exactly. I would be more confident about Scotland playing proper teams again had we come away with a 22-19 defeat in Christchurch. People are making a lot of playing Fiji in Fiji but I doubt that any top 10 team in the world would struggle to beat them convincingly at the moment.
If we get another Six Nations of unfounded, chirpy optimism about our chances and we end up in a Wooden Spoon decider for the nth year running, I'll probably call it a day with Scotland.

Re: Scotland 2 for 2
I agree that we need to start proving ourselves in the six nations, however would a three test series against the All Blacks be a good thing. We were on a seven match losing streak. A series would probably have ended with three defeats, then we start the autumn internationals against New Zealand and South Africa. It is likely that we would have had a twelve match losing run and we'd have gone over a year without a win. This tour will hopefully lift the spirits of players and then with Jackson, Brown, Beattie, Denton, Jones etc. to come in it will only improve things.

Re: Scotland 2 for 2
All us Scottish fans should be celebrating these wins. We've won our 2nd SH series in a row and despite it not being a 3 test series vs SA, AB's or Aus its still a significant result. Of course we shouldn't get carried away, but atm things are looking very positive.
Still Samoa to come, I am really looking forward to that test match!
By the way, anyone thinking of getting a ticket for any of the Autumn tests at Murrayfield? 10 days till they're on sale I think.

Re: Scotland 2 for 2
123456789 - agreed. The reason I'm more optimistic at the moment isn't that we've beaten the Aussies and Fiji on their own turf, but that we have a new group of players coming in who have shown at HC and club level that they can compete toe to toe with the top players in Europe, and that finally they are getting selected for Scotland and given the chance to show what they can do.
We'll have the AIs to mark progress and obviously the pro teams HC campaigns will be a good yard stick to see the progress certain individuals are making.
We are behind Wales, Ireland and England at the moment, but I don't actually think the gulf is widening. I think we're in as good a position as a rugby nation as we've been since the turn of professionalism. That isn't saying much, but it is saying that we've turning a corner. It starts with the pro sides though.

I don't think there's much doubt we would have conceded at least 100 points in a three-test series against the All Blacks but we need to beat them at some point, however unlikely it is that we will actually ever do it. Unless we lose to Samoa, I just see people taking way more out of this series than they should be. I can already hear Andy Nicol harking on about how we were the only northern-hemisphere team to get a series win and have started scoring tries only to get slapped by the All Blacks and South Africa, i.e. actual southern-hemisphere sides and not a mid-week team or amateurs.

Andy Nicol is a moron though, and the sooner we get a sensible and considered pundit to represent us for the BBC the better.
I actually think we'd have gone ok against the All Blacks in the conditions in Christchurch. As we proved against Australia, in those sorts of conditions we can front up. Don't think we've have leaked that many.

True but let's not forget that they also have Davies (possibly the most irritating voice in sport) and Guscott on the payroll.

Re: Scotland 2 for 2
I think Scotland will gain a lot from this tour, winning a few on a trot is a good way to make the players feel the emotions and pride of winning, rather than being proud in defeat, now if they finish their tour on a high, well there will be a momentum shift and a belief and trust in one another will blossom.
Nothing better than winning
