The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Belfast - the rope-making and ship building capital of the world.
Now the Mouth of the Shoal awaits the safe arrival of one of it's long lost daughter's - Cariadwr - in her ongoing quest to be as close as possible to one of her favourite players... Tomás Ó Buaigh of Emyvale.... on her Birthday
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Nial O'Connor, Cari & Tommy Bowe, "Pickles" the wonder dog of '66, Wikus van de Merwe and Black Caviar above the bar.

Glas, you sound despondent. Rugby weary... and need a short break from the scene. That holiday would do you you a world of good.
It would be the same for me though if we had lost. Even though I had a successful weekend with Oz, Swans, Sea Eagles winning and Black Caviar... by a full head; there's just a frenzy of sport on at the moment and it's only going to get worse in the coming weeks.
Don't get me wrong. I had a great day out at the game yesterday but the intensity is just too much. The build up was huge and I just wanted it to be over and done with after all the discussions on these threads.
You go from feeling sick in the 72nd minute behind on the scoreboard and the clock ticking down to that 'just getting out of jail again!' feeling.
If we had lost, I'd feel even more sick of rugby too.

You're right Breaker. I haven't booked anything yet. Few little things to iron out first at home and with work. All in all I'm glad there's a break till September. It's the busiest time with the farm and I could do with one less thing to think about now.

So that's why the ratings shot up this week...

This is the biggest 0-0 hammering I've ever seen.
If Italy don't get through, they'll have no choice but to shoot themselves.

Morning all
Sat at my desk here with my first cup of tea of the day. Am absolutely knackered for some reason so I suspect it won't be my last.
Thanks to all who voted for the wife, I think she has won (from looking at the poll although no official confirmation through yet) so she will be happy when she wakes up.

That's good Pete, finger's crossed.
Your knackered because of the emotional torment of the soccer. I don't know what happened to England last night, in the other games you found an extra gear when it mattered. I feel sorry for Hodgeson, but in a funny way I think your probably better out. Germany would eat Parker, Young, Milner, Wellbeck (and Rooney in his current form) for breakfast. It would have been embarrassing.

Morning As and Glas, and anyone else who's lurking.
You could be right Glas, but I didn't feel overly emotional about it last night. I called it after about 20 minutes that we would lose, and that was the period of the game when we were on top. At this level if you fail to convert when you are creating chances early in the game then you inevitably will get punished.
As you say, Germany would have mullered us anyway, so it's probably better this way. I like what Hodgson has done since taking over, but I do feel that when Parker went off he should have been bold and slung Oxlade-Chamberlain on in the middle of the park.
Going forward we have an opportunity to build a decent team for the World Cup.

Morning fellas, .
Agree entirely Glas, a massive humiliation was waiting in the semi-final, at least the fans can claim a "moral victory" of being unbeaten. England just look miles away from the other semi-finalists.
It's a lovely morning here, a bit cool, but fresh and very bright.

I'm not soccer aficionado by a long way, but it seems to me the best teams have a player in the middle pulling the strings - Schweinsteiger, Alonso, Pirlo. Couldn't Gerrard play that role? Or would Milner and Parker lose too much ball?

I think in the record books the match actually goes down as a draw, although in my view it should go down as a loss.

Gerrard isn't really that sort of player. All those guys play pretty deep and ping the ball around. Gerrard strengths are his energy and ability to get around the park. The nearest thing England have to those guys would be either Scholes or Wilshere, neither of whom were in the squad (Wilshere due to to injury).

That's what I thought anyway, I may be wrong, but I thought the result of the game was a draw. I'm not big on the game either though so I may be talking complete carp.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, it's a summer's day here! No, really, it is - sun shining and everything!
It's not just you, PJ. He looked completely unfit and out of form. But he's a name, and names have to come straight back into the side.
Ashley Young looked thoroughly inept all tournament. Yesterday's match saw him take ineptitude to a new level.

I guess if Hodgson didn't put him straight back in and England lost he would have no defense and have to kill himself right?

Correct. Ireland had the odd record of being the only team to reach a WC QF without winning or losing a game (Italia 90).
Morning all. I feel like the sports part of my soul is in a coma right now, savage beatings from Kilkenny and the New Zealand have left me oddly numb. The Ireland game reminds me of that scene from the Simpsons where Homer dresses up as Krusty the Clown to entertain some kids but then savagely beats the Hamburgler because he thinks he’s really stealing burgers. The kids just look on in horror as Homer goes to town on him, “STOP IT, STOP IT, HE’S ALREADY DEAD” they shout… he’s already dead.

I went out on Friday night and did the dog on it. Serious nights boozing and ended up missing the Ireland v NZ game on Saturday.
I woke up at 10.30 and when I asked N. the scoreline she just smiled, told me to go back to sleep and that there were some things I didn't need to know.

Good morning pub goers. Lovely day here too.
I missed the footy yesterday (well most of it). The ending was way past my bedtime on a Sunday.
I could tell England had lost because my neighbour two doors down wasn’t yelling his head off and playing “We Are The Champions” until 3 in the morning. With him any England football win is followed by a late night ‘garden party’.

I did the same, but i woke up at 12, checked my phone. 3 messages, one from Eoin saying "believe" at 8.24am and one from my mate John at 9.25 saying "i should have f**kin stayed in bed" and one from a NZ number saying "ouch bro, ouch".
