The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Belfast - the rope-making and ship building capital of the world.
Now the Mouth of the Shoal awaits the safe arrival of one of it's long lost daughter's - Cariadwr - in her ongoing quest to be as close as possible to one of her favourite players... Tomás Ó Buaigh of Emyvale.... on her Birthday
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Nial O'Connor, Cari & Tommy Bowe, "Pickles" the wonder dog of '66, Wikus van de Merwe and Black Caviar above the bar.

What's your drink Red?
Some Tomos Watkins maybe.
Or
Or
Perhaps a nightcap of
Bad luck against Aus fella. So close in the last two tests. Your tour was a learning curve for the young 'uns. Similar for England, but both ultimately without a win.

Wales are the better side at the moment Red, but unless Wales kick on England will be chasing hard. Scotland are on the up and Ireland will NOT take their experience in NZ with a pinch of salt.
Personally, I can't wait for the AI's.

That's what this place is for Red; to get away from the wums.
We've had our moments though
Stick around - there's a few Os, Scarlets and Dragons fans about the place.
I expect a better set of results for the NH in the autumn. Especially with RWC seedings at stake.

Just for the good of Rugby I hope Scotland will kick on (they brought the best challenge to us in the 6n's, result aside), Ireland, I feel for them today, been there done that and worse with Wales, rugby would be a poorer place without them being strong.... England, where would we be without them
Wales, well like I said on a previous thread will kick on because of the series defeat. As long as we don't start cold in the AI's I really believe we'll be fine.
Harrow, Planet Rock, you beauty

Alice is a great DJ alright.
In '73 Skynyrd were supporting Golden Earring on a UK tour. They blew the cloggies off stage at every gig and ended up with a one off headline gig at The Rainbow (a short bus ride from me at the time).
Freebird live that night was just awesome.

I didn't have you down as a racist Hound...
"Neil Young sang about her...Young should remember, a Southern Man don't need him around anyhow"
Southern Man by Neil Young was an anti racism song.
Sweet Home Alabama is a defiant and political song of the South, protecting its 'culture' of far right reactionaryism and racism. It makes me laugh when covers bands sing it clearly with no clue what the lyrics mean!
See what you can achieve with a decent tune?
Morning all anyhow.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
Glas - Skynyrd were definitely not racists (me neither come to that). The missing bit to that lyric was "I heard ole Neil put us down". And later in the track "There is good people in Alabama."
They were responding to a general slur on ALL Southerners.
Plus they had black female backing singers.
Anyway, it's a great tune.
Morning all, and what a dismal one it is here.

Morning all had a great day yesterday, our old child minder was up at the house so I went up. Very strange , very lovely woman. I think it somewhat accounts for my strange taste in music as well. I don't think many 5 year olds listen to "Purple Haze" on thier way to the Super Market and eat "Jimi Hendrix" Chicken!

Very teasing song Hound, nobody knows if they were taking the pifs out of Young or those who genuinely castigated him. 30 years of debate on this point - not bad at generating publicity! (the Watergate reference is a bit bizarre though)

"Fortunate son" is a brilliant song, abslutely love it. You should take the conversation to rate the song above you thread. It's dying a slow death.

That's bringing back memories. I had the Gump soundtrack on cassette tape, used to thrash it (the cassette is in a box at my folks, though I haven't owned a cassette player in years).

You could have lots of fun with tape recorders, and I'm sure there's many of us over a certain age who remember spending Sunday afternoons taping the Top 40. Peter Kay did a funny bit about that in one of stand up routines.

We just had a torrential downpour (it was louder hitting the roof than the kettle boiling in the kitchen) and then the sun appeared. It's going to be one of those days.

Afternoon all.
Only watched the England game from yesterday so far. Really disappointing to not win. There are positives from the tour but reality is that we are still some way behind the SH teams and Lancaster has a massive job on is hands to put us in a position to challenge for the RWC in 2015.

Would you say so Pete? I would have thought there was enough encouragement to show a bright future. Only things I would say against England is that second row needs more quality, which I think Lawes can add. Tuilagi needs to be used in a more varied way but he is key. Farrell though will not be he outhalf to lead England to a new era.

Cheers As... and congrats to Scotland on their clean sweep of the south-western Pacific hemisphere on their whirlwind tour.
Your boys sure rattled a few big trees along their way!
No rock, tree or soil was left unturned on their gloriously successful antipodean pillage-fest to far off windswept rugby fields!

Don't get me wrong Munsty, I'm not all negative and doom and gloom about our prospects, but there are some areas where I do feel we, along with the other 6 nations teams, are a fair way behind the SANZAR nations. The intensity levels that South Africa can hit are far and above anything we have shown on this tour and we need to up that part of our game. We were second best generally at the contact area, be that carrying or tackling, and that is the main issue for me. Personnel wise we have some good players with the potential to go far, but what we need is a gameplan and players to suit, which plays to our strengths and negates our opponents biggest weapons.
That for me is where Lancaster needs to show us that he is the man to take us forward. I am happy with what he has done so a far and belive that he can take us on from here, I am just realistic about where exactly we are right now.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
Personally I don't care where Wales are. They need a break before the WRU try to polish them off with an AI out of the window, again! Another year without European success, a disappointing 6N and then if the WRU have failed to crock our best players, the Lions will step in.
There is too much International Rugby. I'd rather short tours than AI and the Lions every five or even six years with the home nations not touring in Lions years.
