The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Belfast - the rope-making and ship building capital of the world.
Now the Mouth of the Shoal awaits the safe arrival of one of it's long lost daughter's - Cariadwr - in her ongoing quest to be as close as possible to one of her favourite players... Tomás Ó Buaigh of Emyvale.... on her Birthday
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Nial O'Connor, Cari & Tommy Bowe, "Pickles" the wonder dog of '66, Wikus van de Merwe and Black Caviar above the bar.

Yeah, but to be fair Rosol was a very worthy winner. Basically played the game of his life. Couldn't believe how composed he was at the end. 5-4 ahead in the final set and he comes out and hits three aces in the last game to wrap it up. Was unbelievable.

Would've preffered Becks to Giggs. Shame for him as he did a lot for bid committee.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, Friday is upon us and thank feck for that!
No he didn't. If you're going to to give him a place just because he was a good 'ambassador' then you may as well throw in Seb Coe for the 1500 metres.

I'll admit I don't watch the MILF league or whatever the American league's called, but I remember George Best saying about Beckham, "He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right." And that was when he was at United.

Morning All.
Time for Beckham to move on... give someone else a go.
He can strut his stuff in the Olympic Opening/Closing ceremony though. No problems with that.
Super try from Nanai-Williams after SBW made a break and held up the ball.
7-0 Chiefs

Great free kick taker, great crosser of a ball. Other than that he’s got nout. Giggs is 10 times the player Becks is/was.
Morning all!
If any of you are visiting Dublin and you have a head for heights then you can walk on the roof of Croke Park, like the Sydney harbor bridge walk. It’s a brand new attraction but it gives the best views of the city. Looks great but certainly not for me.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
We (bunch of mates) used to 'do the bridge' illegally at night in the 80s. We'd get tanked up in the old gun emplacements near Middle Head then somebody would make the suggestion. You had to run up a steep stone embankment (north east pylon)... some couldn't make it... climb up rickety stairs and exit on the bottom chord of the arch. (doors weren't locked back then) then climb up exposed stairs in a cage.
You had to go outside/around the steel cage when you reached the top chord (that was the only gate back then)... legs & arse hovering over the traffic. My pulse quickens up just thinking about it. No safety ropes of course (some carried their booze instead) and the steel was slippery when it had dew on it. Did it three times. Others kept on going but I heard they were eventually caught. This was around the time (about a year or 2 before) the tours started. That business is now a license to print money.

Not being the kind of thing I am usually into I was dubious about it Mick but freakin hell it's 100% utterly amazing stuff. A lot of it was filmed in N.Ireland ya know. Cave Hill, Downhill Strand and forest scenes filmed 6 miles from where I am. If I'd known Id have tried to get in shot somehow

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
We were idiots. I remember someone dropping a bottle accidentally and cursing themselves then someone else said - forget it... it's gone. Nothing you can do about it now. Keep climbing!
We also did skyscrapers. We'd sneak in (easy...hardly any security) and just press the lift buttons to the top floors. If we couldn't go all the way we'd get out a few floors early and walk up the fire stairs... right onto the roof. I had a bit of a fear for heights but one guy didn't. He climbed onto the parpet of the MLC Centre (68 stories). I was hugging the rail for the BMU (cleaning machine) in fear. It was a buzz though.
We also did the Amex Bdg, 35 storeys (now has a new name) and the T&G Bdg (changed name now) which was 48 stories. That's where we got caught - there was a guard there but he then had a laugh with us then took us on a proper tour.

I learned that it was shot in the north just this week Pete, when i was watching it i thought to myself that some of the scene's MUST be in Ireland, the Ion islands and such. The studio is in Belfast too, so all of the indoor stuff is done there. A good few Irish actors/actresses in it, Kat Stark is a nordie, and Lord Baylish is from Dublin (among many others). I like how much nudity there is in it, i like nudity.

Miacko, I am a big big big big fan of Game of Thrones (more so the books though). Watched Season 1 - I'll save season two for a while.
The books are probably more raunchy than the tv show though.

ALL - thanks for the advice and info. Will definitely try and get my ar$e along to Croker
'KADO - Game of Thrones is indeed savage
Really thought "Becks" would've been picked, mainly because ticket sales fot the football haven't been great and they may have been boosted by his PR inclusion. He did not 'deserve' to be included on any footballing basis and Stuart Pearce deserves a for omitting him
"Pearce has decided he cannot afford to make a PR selection if he wants to lead the team to the gold medal in front of their home fans.
He flew to America to see Beckham in action for LA Galaxy last week and telephoned him with the news of his omission on Wednesday.
Instead, Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy, Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs and Manchester City defender Micah Richards have been handed the three over-age places."

I introduced the series to a friend of mine who exclaimed "you didn't tell me it was full a ridin" because he was watching it with his 11 year old brother thinking it would be more Lord of the Ringsy.
They've shot it so well so that the familiar areas don't have a familiar feel to them. Even the little harbour at Ballintoy was almost unrecognisable. I know the area well and it definately looks only remotely familiar which is a very good thing as the magic would shine less brightly. The CGI is very subtle in that respect and the shots are well thought out.

Chiefs 21-14 Highlanders.
A little feeling in this game. SBW just got warned for a shoulder charge... then a few mild exchanges. 30 mins to go.

They also get the casting superb in most cases. Having read the book a natural comparison will be made but I think the actors are cast excellently. I struggle to think of a character who hasn't lived up onscreen to their one in the books.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Béal Feirste
The Game of Thrones was filmed here indeed.
They used the Paint Hall Studios. It was the place where Harland and Wolfe used to paint parts of ships. I just love that something that was originally used for the biggest and most famous Belfast employer is now being used for a totally different type of function which is once again putting Belfast in the spot light.

MrsP did you know that invest NI put £6.5 million into the filming of the first 2 seasons? It was a wise investment, £43 million was put into the N.Ireland economy as a direct result of the series doing so well and they believe that it will be second only to the troubles in bringing tourists to this little corner of Ireland.
So it's not just all about the nudity Mick
Even if those blinkin dragons got in the way grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Hapless I would say that the better question is why have both a netbook and a laptop?
For me the ideal is EITHER a laptop or a netbook AND a tablet device.

BTW Lucky when did you change your name.
Also everyone I started watching the Big Bang Theory over my few days off work.
Luckless your remind me of Sheldon Cooper.
Glas reminds me of Tyrion Lannister.
Mickado reminds me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo.
Thats all I will divulge for now. No logical explanation for any of the above.

I agree with Stag Hapless, a tablet is just a touch screen netbook really, no optical drive, small harddrive etc.
I think the ideal set up is a desktop (all in one for space saving) and a tablet. That way you can do your lazy surfing on the tablet (from the couch) and use the desktop for desktoppy type things (editiing/storing photos, music, movies etc.).

I really want to get a tablet. However I am finding it hard to justify to herself as to why I need to spend hundreds of quid for one when I have a netbook.

He's a lanky, fearful, gormless stoner with stupid facial hair, a weird voice and an ability to talk to dogs... Yeah, i can see the resemblance alright.

'The Imp' Lannister is my highlight of both seasons Mick but for eye candy it's definately Daenerys Targaryen all the way.
Season 3 is filming now and I cannot wait, simply can't. The season 2 climax left me salivating

I'm 3 ep's away from the end of season 2, they're being saved for my Sunday hangover. I hear it's a real cliffhanger. The Dragon mother is a hot-tea alright, the missus loved Khal Drogo, I have to hand it to her, she has a type

I agree Mick - I bought my tablet after I trod on my netbook and broke the screen. I've converted my laptop (which also has a stuffed screen, and the battery doesn't charge properly) into a desktop by buying a monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse. I have a word processing app that lets me write up stuff on the iPad sitting on the couch (it's almost as easy to type on as the netbook was), and surfing the net works great on it.
Morning all, 7 hours until my week off!

Thanks for confirming things for me, folks. I really don't need an iPad but this money's burning a hole in my pocket!
Stag, I've seen the odd episode of the Big Bang Theory. I think it's terrible. I have never laughed so little at a supposed comedy.

It's just as formulaic as say "two and a half men" but it's supposedly for the thinking man. It's really not. But the characters are a bit better/less annoying.
On the iPad thing, do you use other Apple products? After my holiday's i'm saving for an iMac ( ), an iPad will feel much better if it works properly with things, as it is i can't stand using iTunes on my (very old) laptop, it just doesn't fit...

See thats what I thought before. I had seen it on E4 a lot and found it quite poor. Maybe it was the mood I was in but I got through the entire of Season 1.
Loved it!!

One of the lads in here was IM'ing a girl from sales (it was all work related) and she finished the conversation with "thanks Eric x"
So we all had a gawk and a laugh, he felt very awkward about it.
I typed "xxx" as a reply trying to freak him out that i was going to send it, he DIVED on the keyboard "NOOOOOO DON'T SEND THAT!!!" and in his haste, he hit return!!
Banter!
