Yes I thought the same. The first set will be tight and then Djoko will find his stride probably winning 6-4 6-3 6-2 in the end.

Sue is in love with Nalbandian I think. She has mentioned his unfortunate Queen's event many times. Please leave that guy alone.

On a positive note, Wimbledon crowd is full - thank you. Lunch time but crowd still wanting to watch tennis. What an amazing crowd.

Nice to see they've put Dave first up on Court No. 1 despite the man sausage-up at Queens.

"man sausage-up" seems to be the site's attempt at massaging a more familiar expression for a screw-up.

I think the Nalbandian v Tipsarevic is going to be one of the most interesting day one matches. Tipsarevic is up a break but Nalbandian is getting plenty of break-pt opportunities himself.

Djoko's just woken up - maybe he'll run away with it now, but JC-F is a fairly wily grass-court operator.

It shows the difference in "stretchability":
Nalbandian break point conversions: one from nine
Tipsarevic break point conversions: two from two

Tipsarevic has it today and Nalbandian doesn't.

Josh Goodall managed to remain competive against Zemlja for three sets (winning one set) - but he is being blown away in the fourth set - clearly he doesn't have the fitness levels of the top hundred players.

I think Tipsarevic's performance today against Nalbandian is showing why Tipsy has risen into the top ten ATP world ranking this year. Last year he made the transition from a top fifty player (at the beginning of 2011) to a top ten player (end of 2011).

I wonder whether he is using a similar approach to his fellow Serb Djokovic in terms of improved performance? Or maybe he has been inspired by him.

From 2007 to first quarter of 2011 Tipsy is a top fifty player.
From the end of 2011 and into 2012 Tipsy is a top ten player. ...

What is the cause of this sudden change in performance? His match against Nalbandian is suggesting stretchability - which is perhaps more a mental aspect of his game.

Belief and Application. He's always been a good player and I think he full deserving of his Top 10 status, i.e. he's one of the best all court players in the world

Tipsy runs away with the third set and the match.

I thought this would be Tipsy most difficult match in his section. Nalby played well at Queens and I expected him to want to prove himself and try to "earn" some money after his loss for kicking seven bells out of the line judge.

I think Tipsy should be a strong favorite to make the quarters now.

I would agree with nore staat. For Fed to win he has to not play Nadal, or at the very least hope that someone pushes him to physical exhaustion on the way to the final.

He can beat Novak for sure, and It would be a great story for Fed to win and get back to no.1, but if he plays Nadal it'll be the same old story I fear... Cross court FH up high to Fed's BH = BH breaking down.

Danny I don't know about Fed beating Novak this year at wimby. It probably is Federer's best chance at a slam in my opinion. But I think Novak is in for a turn around. After a early hiccup he looked pretty good against Ferrerro and in his exhibition against Murray that should give him a feel for the grass. I feel like Novak is serving well and playing well at net and that will see him through.

Adding to Danny's comment - the second week of Wimbledon the grass courts slow down and become bouncier to spin due to the wear and tear. This favours "baseline" players like Nadal as well as Djokovic.

PS I think no one would begrudge Federer yet another grand slam trophy - it might even add to the interest. But neither Djokovic nor Nadal will lay down for him if and when they meet.

Socal, Novak would go into the match as favourite for sure, and I would back Novak to win should they meet, but if Roger executes his game well then he can beat Novak... Whereas against Rafa, that backhand weakness against Nadal's FH would cost him, even if the rest of his game is on.

Yes Danny, i do agree with that. I think Novak has to play better than he played at the french to win this tournament. But contrary to popular belief I don't believe that slow wet clay favors his game that much. His serve is improved, his slice backhand has improved and so has his volleys so i think he will be a real threat to defend his title. On federer due to the fact that Roger has a great serve and good flat shots this should be the tournament that he has his best chance at winning another slam. So of course he is a threat, haven't you noticed how much i have been pointing this out to the Nadal fans as to how much of advantage it is for Nadal that Roger was put into Novak's half. Because still the man has won this title 6 times and has the game to win it again.

Federer really needs to nail his serve every time. Has Federer lost something with his serve - compared to say his 2003-2009 all conquering Wimbledon period?

I disagree his serve and his backhand return topspin return are better than they have ever been. He just isn't backing up his serve as well. Still look at the numbers he is holding as high a percentage as he ever has I think he was leading the tour ahead of Raonic for awhile. Nadal and Djokovic are the only two guys that consistently return fed well.
