Wimbledon Day 2, or Day 1b
Well having enjoyed good weather throughout the first days play it feels a bit weird to have matches carried over into the second day. Imagine where the event will be if there's rain!!
Anyway, today is traditionally Ladies Day, or perhaps in 2012 it might be called Drama Queens Day, for reasons I don't fully understand
Nadal and Murray enter the fray after yesterdays routine wins for Federer and Djokovic. Isner and Berdych bit the dust yesterday; any surprises in store?

The only surprise in store is if Murray doesn't feign an injury. Seriously, I can see Del Potro struggling vs Haase.

Almagro-Rochus should prove interesting.
Melzer-Wawrinka
Brian Baker-Rui Machado
Kohlschreiber-Haas
Montanes-Baghdatis
Raonic-Giraldo.
Interesting matches.
Some entertaining matches.

Not sure how any match with Rui Machado involved can ever be interesting. Haas v Kohli will be a right old humdinger.

My interest is in seeing ATP #126 Brian Baker (who has come through qualifiers) to see how he holds up. To each his own.

I'm looking forward to Bellucci v Nadal. I like watching Bellucci, he's flashy and takes risks. I don't thing for a second he can beat Nadal, especially on grass, but I think he could push him in 1 or 2 of the sets.
I actually thought Bellucci was top 10 material a year or so ago, and I'm really disappointed to see him so far down the rankings.

Raonic and Dodig are interesting, from a Nadal & Murray point of view.

I'd agree there. Both are out on the outside courts today as is Ivo Karlovic against Sela.

Bellucci is 10-20 material when it all comes togehter Danny, 40% of the time he can play amazing, then 60% of the time he plays like Roddick does on clay. He usually gets a good performance against the higher ranked, sadly will make too many errors.

This PS class seems to be growing, perhaps a new 'species', JM.

True JM, he's 24 now though and for a player of such good natural ability to be closer to 100 than he is to the top 20 makes me wonder if there are attitude or mental issues there. It's bizarre how many of the potential next gen players drop away nowadays.
I saw yesterday (on here somewhere I think) that there are only 2 teenagers in the top 100. When you consider that all of the current top 4 were teenage top 10 players, I'm wondering when there will be a changing of the guard.
Fed obviously has a limited shelf life, but the other 3 seem to have no threat, apart from Delpo and Raonic perhaps.

Tomic is 19. Harrison just turned 20. Dimitrov and Goffin are 21.

crazy that court 3 is half empty for the Laura Robson match.
people who will have queued all night are now denied entry to this court because it is now considered a "show court"

Didn't realise Laura Robson was 5ft 11". Thought she was smaller than that for some reason. Good start by her.
Who do people think will be more successful over their careers, Robson or Watson?

If Laura can cut out the errors and dips in concentration I think she can be a bit of force on Grass/Hardcourts. Watson I see as more of grinder and if she were to win Slams it would be AO/FO her best chances.

Wow what a set from Robbo. Keep it up girl. On serve in the 2nd set. 80% first serves in 88% first serve points. Immense

She looks great. Really aggressive and the movement looks a lot better.
It's a shame we can't splice Laura's ground strokes and Heather's movement. What a player that would be!!

I think Robson could improve her movement, though I doubt she could move like Watson due to her size. Squeeze another inch and she could be 6ft.

Good question Danny. I think we've got a bit of a Henman / Rudseski situation. Heather is the smoother, all round Henman type with Laura being more of the Greg shot maker
Difficult to say. It might be argued that Heather would get blasted off the court as she has no great weapons - but as we have seen from Caroline W. this doesn't stop you getting to No.1
Not saying either will - but I do think Heather has the better temperament but you would say that Robson is younger can probably get her temperament in check and has the basic better weapons
Both could easily make the Top 10 - you only have to look at players of a similar age to realise that in 5-7 years the could be contenders
Here's hoping

Robson simply has to remain focussed here and a second round place will beckon. Tomic has taken the first set against Goffin and laverfan - Baker going into a first set tie-break.

Robson is making strides into the Schiavone serve in this 2nd set. Just keep that serving up Robbo.

Brian Baker takes the first set on a tie-break against Machado. Perhaps a shock brewing for Feliano Lopez the No.14 seed. He has lost a first set tie-break against Jarko Niemenen.

I reckon JMDP is going out today. That grass looks too green for him, and Haase can play.

Errors creeping into Robson's game now and Schiavone looking threatening all of a sudden.

Second set to Schiavone. Robson missed out at 0-40 on the Schiavone serve and know Schiavone is back in it. Not all over for Robson, just needs to hold her serve.
Also Robson needs to start getting the second serve returns in

Robson now in a battle. Schiavone takes the second set and now Robson's fitness will now come under the microscope as well as her mental strength as Schiavone won't go away.

Laura needs to break back straight away, or this could run away from her pretty quickly.

Lopez back level at one set all against Niemenen and Goffin beginning to sniff an upset. He is level at one set all with Tomic and has an early break in the third set. That looks like it could be a real marathon.

Is it just me, or does anyone else snigger when they hear that Edward Roger-Vasselin is playing?
It might be a legacy from my teenage years chortling at the Thorpe case.

It is Robin Haase and not Tommy Haas that Del Potro is playing.

The wheels came off for Laura Robson who trailed 1-5 in the third set but battled back before losing it 6-4 and exits Wimbledon. No disgrace though considering Robson is 18 and Schiavone is a slam winner.
