Wimbledon Day 2, or Day 1b
First topic message reminder :
Well having enjoyed good weather throughout the first days play it feels a bit weird to have matches carried over into the second day. Imagine where the event will be if there's rain!!
Anyway, today is traditionally Ladies Day, or perhaps in 2012 it might be called Drama Queens Day, for reasons I don't fully understand
Nadal and Murray enter the fray after yesterdays routine wins for Federer and Djokovic. Isner and Berdych bit the dust yesterday; any surprises in store?

He would have never won Wimbledon in the 1990s.
Don't speak too soon, Nadal is getting back into this match.
Nadal ain't winning another slam off clay. Bet on it.
He will have to wait until Monte Carlo 2013 to win another title again.

And Bellucci has been broken again. I had a feeling this was coming. If anything Nadal is a fighter and that's why he's back in this match despite being down 4-0 at one point.

Bet he wishes he could have those 2 volleys back now.
Back on serve. I love Bellucci's style of play. Wow he's inconsistent though.

Rafa gets everything back and makes players hit an extra shot.
Rafa is going to win this match in straight sets.

Yes and in that sense so was Djokovic's & Hewitts and in some senses Federers after 03/04.
Also that guy called Borg didn't fit in with the usual grass play, and Agassi must've dreamed his title, final and SF appearances

i wonder if we are seeing a cloaked return of a long lost 606 poster here? Very interesting terminology used: 'Dirtballer' and 'Nadull'

Nadal is so boring. Why can't he lose
the set 6-0 and make it worth watching?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! I've only read two 'opinions' about Nadal's plight both are disrespectful wummery of epic proportions. If Murray's career, was judged on the first four games he'd be about No. 504 in the world.
I sure that some of us (not me!!) could look a million dollars for 10 minutes against Rafa, unfortunately Bellucci is about to discover that you have to do it for at least two hours with no let up
However, given Roger's serene progress yesterday - Rafa's current 'troubles' do mean that if they should meet in the final a repeat of the 2006 result is a cast iron guarantee

Fed won 5 in a row and has won a total of 6 Wimbledon titles, it's silly to call that an aberration of any kind or even allude to some of those titles as such. In no sense was it an aberration. It's completely unnecessary to bring other players into this. Nadal has made 5 Wimbledon finals, of course his 2 Wimbledon titles weren't an aberration.

Sadly Tom, that is not only a distinct possibility but a cast iron certainty.
What is is with Fed fans (and it is nearly always them) that make them hate Nadal too much?
Do you think it could be that 8-2 Slam losing record?

Tsonga looks like he is in top form. Some of his shots, especially on the return are fairly delightful to watch.

You might want to say some Fed fans. I'm a Fed fan and I'm enjoying the tennis without bashing other players here.

The winner of Wimbledon this year is coming from the top half. Either Djokovic or Federer.

Lazy and inflammatory, bantroban, and not very smart coming from someone trying to make out they're on the high ground.

Ignore banbro lucius. He's clearly a fanatical anti-Fed plodder. His idol must have been Sampras, now his records were quickly passed by a far more skilled player and he's not liking it. Get used to it banbro

Onto a tie breaker. This will be interesting, Nadal should edge this I think.

There seems to be a lot of comments about the commentators own fantasies rather than comments on the actual tennis being played.

What on earth happened. Ward had a poor service game to lose the first set 4-6. I assumed that Andujar had "imposed" himself on Ward and would run away with the next two sets. It shows that Ward has a lot of fight within him perhaps.TopoftheChops wrote:Ward wins second set 6-0

Tsonga has the break and so should now see this match out in straight sets against Hewitt.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2, or Day 1b
I'm not really surprised to see Nadal start slow. In 2010 he was lacklustre in R1, R2 and R3 (two 5 set matches against Hasse and Petzs) and then toward the last 3 rounds started to look near invulnerable - particularly after being 5-1 down in the first set vs Soderling in the QF. Up until that point people were saying he had little chance of winning it.

Bellucci; 1 point from 5-0 up in the set, loses it to LOVE in a breaker. Absolutely priceless. I wonder if he goes to bed thinking up ways in which he can make himself look stupid?

Can we be spared the rash predictions....at least until the second week.
Belucci is hanging in there, which I'm glad to see. I was expecting a Ferrer rolling over performance after the first set loss but he's held on which I'm happy to see. Nothing worse than an opponent giving up after a crucial blow.

I personally though his touch is what hinder him. Any shot requiring a deft touch or a volley and he's been woeful. Not surprising really.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2, or Day 1b
Bellucci is such a sweet striker of the ball and has a great serve and a decent second serve. But my word have you ever seen a worse vollier?
I reckon I'd do better charging to the net blindfolded holding a banjo.
You can see how he flirted with the top 20 though. I wonder if he'll ever find himself near the top 20 again? I love watching him play, he looks top 10 at times and yet looks awful with anything played low and short.
