Wimbledon Day 2, or Day 1b
First topic message reminder :
Well having enjoyed good weather throughout the first days play it feels a bit weird to have matches carried over into the second day. Imagine where the event will be if there's rain!!
Anyway, today is traditionally Ladies Day, or perhaps in 2012 it might be called Drama Queens Day, for reasons I don't fully understand
Nadal and Murray enter the fray after yesterdays routine wins for Federer and Djokovic. Isner and Berdych bit the dust yesterday; any surprises in store?

For me Murray would probably prefer to face Anderson. Anderson only really has a serve game, and like Isner has no return game whatsoever. So Murray one of the best returners in the game would have little trouble against Anderson IMO

Not too fussed to be honest. They both have their own qualities and weaknesses.

It is now turning into a routine First Round match for Rafael Nadal. Now looks to be cruising to a straight sets victory.

Very lucky he is against that guy but we await his utter demolition that is certain to come

Tsonga is the threat to Nadal. Very impressive serving against Hewitt.

Baghdatis doing the business. Unlike Berdbrain, the talented Cypriot does not lose 1st rounds.

A real marathon going on Court 8. Garcia-Lopez leads Vasselin 8-7 in the fifth set after four and a half hours play.

Why do not we let him get to QF before we 'marmalise' 'Nadull' ?

I heard some group of booing when Nadal turned to salute the crowd at the end.
Not quite as popular as his die-hard army would want you to think.

Haase at 1 set all and a break up on Del Potro. That was my upset prediction for the round, made on this thread.

The person who can write articles like this https://www.606v2.com/t31687-dirtballer-nadal-looking-like-a-fish-out-of-water-off-clay talks about others being fanatical
As usaul my young student you get it wrong on several fronts;-
1) I tend to use stats showing the fragile side of Roger - to put arrogant Fed fans in their place, not because I don't like his play. That's why I owed the generally good Fed fans like BB and luciusman an apology
2) Sampras was never my idol - well done for giving the biggest insult you could ever do
3) My all times faves, in order (those who are 30 or over, so we can judge their career) are McEnroe, Agassi, Connors, Federer and Mecir. Note, that Roger is in there!!! (BB thinks that because I occasionally criticise him then I can't be a fan - but I thank Roger for saving us from a decade of Roddick and Tommy Haas )
Many thanks

Andy Murray looking comfortable so far winning the first set 6-1. Ward looks like he is set for a win and Elena Baltacha is also through.

Two excellent performances by Brits
James Ward beating the world no 36 in five sets.
Elena Baltacha beating the highly spirited and big hitting Karin Knapp. Baltacha's greater physical fitness saw her come through this highly gruelling encounter in three sets against her younger and former world number 35 opponent.

Haase / Del Boy heading for 3rd set tie break. Have to say that probably holds the key to the match.

Becasue it's no fun for the likes of his knockers
I'm still trying to work out since when it became a certainty that the Slam serial non final appearances Tsonga would beat the serial Slam appearing Nadal, but what do I know

And you're only mentioning this because Andrew Castle pointed out that this was the last time that Murray failed to make the 2nd round of a Slam

Typical Murray, he looks good from the beginning of the tournament, then he gets Ferrer and Nadal and he soils his pants. This trend is infinite now.

Raonic after two service games.
5 Aces. 5/5 on 1st, 3/3 on 2nd
Edit: 7 Aces in 3 games.
This guys going to be a nightmare on a fast court.

I know, judging on your previous comment on your own thread about Nadal that you find the thought process difficult, but can you tell us what, away from the dirt, the head to head is with Ferrer in a Slam and who outside the Top 3 is one of only two other players to have beaten Nadal at a Slam twice during the past 4 years

I love Josiah. He joins in an article bear baiting Nadal fans that he can't do anything away from the dirt and then bear baits us Murray fans by making out Ferrer has Murray's number, whislt forgetting that 4 out of the 5 Ferrer wins were on, yes you've all guessed - the dirt!!
Great stuff from the young whippersnpper

Have you noticed how Andy is at his best when he plays a combination of power and delicacy, rather than when he listens to his detractors and just goes for all out power
Good start, as good as anyone - but bigger tests to follow

Decent performance from Andy and a badly needed confidence builder. Looked solid in all departments but lets not get carried away as Davydenko is a pale shadow of himself. No faltering though and focus and serve was good.

Yes a serving machine he is but remember Murray is renowned as one of the best returners of serve around. I wouldn't say Raonic is one of the best movers around and not a great returner himself. So not all doom and gloom if you are a Murray fan.
