Wimbledon Day 3, or 2b
(or not 2b, I guess that is the question....)
Well there (again) matches held over so it is in a way. At least it's not Day 1c.
Anyway HRH TMF is in the Palace, playing against the nefarious Fognini so all is right with the World. Should be fun, I hope.
Djokovic may have some early pressure from Harrison but we're still firmly in pushover round territory which lasts until the quarters at earliest these days, regrettably).
Some women are also playing, I think.

I just can't cope with the mass of statistics and analysis and detailed match line up that you're firing at me, I think you need to keep your articles more concise.

Mayer v Petzschner is an intriguing match.
Other than that apart from Federer/Fognini and Djokovic/Harrison the rest of matches have meh about them

I predict Harrison may win the first set off Novak tomorrow. Just a feeling I have.
I like Harrison, good intensity, big serve. Think he will be in the top 20 within the next 18 months.

I'm glad to see Fed has got the first match on centre court, I stand a good chance of being able to catch all of it.

I actually think that he'll turn out to be the most consistent of the bunch (Raonic, Tomic etc) for me he's got a good all round game as is probably the most mentally strong of his peers. I'm sure, with the right coaching he can develop a big shot and come through
In 5 years time, there are going to be an awful lot of the 'noughties' bunch, who occupied the Top 50 for 10 years plus, disappearing with not the same quality coming through. This puts people like him at an advantage

Re: Wimbledon Day 3, or 2b
With Murray probably having to face Raonic and possibly Delpo on his way to the semis, and Rafa having to face Taonga who looks in red hot form, I'm starting to wonder if NEITHER of them will make it to the semis.
It's a possibility. I really fancy Tsonga's chances against Rafa, think that could be a seriously tight 5 setter... And Murray's draw has danger in every round from here on in.
Not that I'm getting ahead of myself or anything.

A very solid start from Heather Watson and she leads Hampton (USA) 3-0.

Someone's going to have to point out when a switched on Murray or even Nole have ever had a problem with Del Potro. His game falls beautifully into the traps of these two's best facets of their games. For instance their return of serve, immediately gets DP doing more work than he normally does. Then their sheer delight at simply moving him from side to side, takes him further from his comfort zone
With Raonic, we're making the same error as always - overestimating his ability (simply because there is no-one else to get excited about) and of course the same underestimating errors with Murray - forgetting that he's now a serial 'late into the second week' achiever
All assuming that Murray plays like he did yesterday and keeps his unforced errors low
Also, why is it at every Slam Tsonga is always fancied. Nadal will merely catch up with him in, say, the second the set and then Jo will do his usual implosion. That's assuming the gifted Frenchman actually gets through

Heather Watson a set up as she seeks to become the first British woman since Elena Baltacha in 2002 to reach the Third Round at Wimbledon. She now leads 6-1 1-0 with a break in the second set.

More match points....DF...........
and......well, That was an efficient performance
Radwanska, possibly the most shakey high seed to have floating around your part of the draw. Return to centre/C1 looks probable.

Good win for Heather. I like her lack of unforced errors - shows an excellent temperament
Wonder what her ranking will be?
My favourite of the Brit ladies - us brothers and half sisters have to stick together

Such easy matches are bad for Federer. He needs to be battle-ready. A false sense of security is useless at a slam.

Disagree, he knows what's required and the very last thing he needs is wearing down.laverfan wrote:Josiah Maiestas wrote:4 straight breadstick sets for Rog. Will Fognini change that this time?

Prince and Lady Camilla must be regretting their decision to show up. The Nadal-Bellucci match was better than this in the first set.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3, or 2b
Banbro - I hope you're right about Andy. I think Raonic would be difficult for Andy, though I agree he does seem to have Delpo's number. Nobody would be more delighted than me if he comes through his quarter unscathed.
I disagree with you about Tsonga though. I think he could take Nadal out. He looked great yesterday, and should have beaten Novak in Paris. If he gets there, that could be a really tight quarter final and I think Tsonga would have a great shout at beating Nadal.

Fognini wins a 2nd game in this set, will Federer now fall to pieces and crack like an egg-shell? Wouldn't put it past the goat.

A W/O by Fognini would be the least amount of wearing down.

That fall could have been awful, especially on that left knee.
No trainer thankfully.

Federer in cruise control so far. Could have been a nasty slip but he seems fine. Fognini is just not consistent enough.

The grass should wear down by the end of this week from the baseline. His physio would look at it after the match. Day of rest too.

People whinge when nadal gets injured or tired, but it is his style of play that does that to him. Federer has been pure genius here. Playing fast and getting it over with. Ability.

Listening to Heather Watson's post match interview, she gives me the impression of being well-spoken, fairly mature headed and smart.
I have also noted Judy Murray and her team giving all the Brit girls support. I think Judy may be having a positive influence on the Brit girls.

Well yes. After all holding an injured part of the body does seem to qualify you as a drama queen in this day and age. So be it.
