A culture shock when going to WR?
Maybe it sort of explains why so many ex-Tigers fade away.

Richard Cockerill has kick-started the Aviva Premiership war of words after he made a not so subtle dig at their rivals London Irish.
Leicester have recruited two players from the Exiles in the close season with both Dan Bowden and Adam Thompstone arriving at the Tigers and with the club starting pre-season training this week, Cockerill has claimed that it will take time for Bowden to adjust to his new club.
"Dan Bowden has been doing some rehab work for us and it has been a shock to the system for him," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "He has to turn up in the right kit and be in the right place at the right time. For some clubs, that is not the norm, but for us, all of the bits have to be in the right place.
"Attention to detail is important and there are things like time-keeping, dress code or tidying up after yourself that are equally as important to the way we work. When you add them all together, they are things that any good organisation is built on.
"Whether that is cleaning your plates up after you have eaten your food or opening doors for members of staff, all of those bits are important and make this club what it is."

That is a real kick in the teeth. I seem to remember a few seasons ago the Pirates looking into whether they could enter the celtic league (as it was then)
I think they were looking at the time when there was that free weekend, before the Italians joined. I think thy were told, that they needed to prove that they could be a benefit to celtic rugby, so if you read between the lines, I think they said come and join us if you want, but you must come under one of the IRFU/SRU/WRU and have amajority of celtic qualified players in there squad, that is why it all went pair shaped.

Re: Cockerill slags off London Irish
Just had a quick look for anything suggesting Pirates wanted to join the Celtic league. Can't see anything. People have suggested London Welsh applied to join the celtic league as well but all I could find on that was that if the premiership was ring fenced [without them in it] they would look at joining the celtic league.
I would be interested in any links people can provide that suggest otherwise (although it may obviously have been only in print)
EDIT: It would have been between Celtic Warriors going and the Borders going. In this period there were 11 teams. After Borders went there were 10.

Thunnor - I remember it being discussed on the old 606 (yeah between Warriors and Borders both being shat on), I think Pirates were struggling to be allowed to be promoted around the same time with caused the 'talk' of them looking for a change. I am looking for a link

Yeah that was about the time, although I think the Warriors went before the Borders, I think they made enquirees about joining as they had Celtic links what with being Cornish and all that, I was actually quite excited about them joining but there was to much red tape so to speak.

Warriors went in 2004(?) and Borders went in 2006(?) [I know it was one of the years the Ospreys won because their last game, league winning, game was also the Borders' last ever game].
I remember it being discussed on the old site but I can't remember it being based on anything. More of a 'wouldn't it be nice if the Pirates joined as they're Celtic' (I think Vickery would have something to say about that )

End of the day Newcastle have been relegation fodder for years now and its a damn miracle it hasnt happened before. They havent done anything to suggest they can turn that around and have become deadwood.
Chop the Jeff to 10 and be done with it.
Then we can have a court room battle about who is sufficiently sh1t to get relegated.like they have in wales.
Sigh. Litigation in these matters helps noone. PRL is much maligned but at least the "one for all" ethos has helped avoid this sort of thing till now and stopped the biggest clubs being as self serving as they would be without it. Obviously its a problem if you arent in the gang though, but Exeter have shown its quite possible to overcome that through prudence.
And thats the ironic thing...we finally have a chairman to back us and a top manager...IF we do stay up...we will be a much stronger team than many previous years....

Aren't these regular, every-day values we try to instill in our kids?"Attention to detail is important and there are things like time-keeping, dress code or tidying up after yourself that are equally as important to the way we work. When you add them all together, they are things that any good organisation is built on.
"Whether that is cleaning your plates up after you have eaten your food or opening doors for members of staff, all of those bits are important and make this club what it is."
Can't for the life of me see how any humanoid can have an issue with this (even if it is Tigers).

Doc, I presume it's there as a reminder to the players that the club is bigger than them and that they aren't going to get any special treatment. Though that paragraph is added after the stuff about Bowden so I'd say that was probably a generalisation. Reading between the lines I'd say that Bowden turned up late and in the wrong kit for his rehab session and Cockers is still ribbing him for it.

Hmm Haskell went to posh school but he seemed to misunderstand the purpose of domestic staff in New Zealand

PSW, that's an incident he strongly denies and has put in the hands of his lawyers (or had last I heard of it some months back).

Me too. Being a professional sportsman doesn't mean you are imeadiately superior and some footballers seem to have forgotten this and it's a real shame and I'd hate to see Rugby ever go that way. I'm sure Bowden is certainly no footballer type but Cockers is laying it out there right at the start of a pre season with a young squad and several new names.
