The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread devoted to keeping track of how the potential England players of the future are doing in county cricket. From the first 3 days of the summer the stand out performances I have noticed are from Adil Rashid who has taken match figures of 11-114 and from Ben Stokes who took 6 wickets and is currently 100* in Durham's second innings.

James Taylor at Leicestershire is one I'm definitely looking at this year, if he has a good start to the season he may well be in with a chance of playing for England, along with Hildreth from Somerset.

Another player from Yorkshire to keep an eye on is ADAM LYTH.
A 24 year old left handed opening batsman, who can bowl right
handed off breaks if required.

James Taylor. List A and First Class record just so far superior to anyone else his age now, and for a long while. Two 1000 run seasons before he is 21 is just breathtaking.

Broads batting will improve over the next few years. As Davies is more attacking he's better lower down.

Samit Patel made a century today, if he sorts his fitness out he would be a definite in the ODI team for me - as a second spinner in place of Tredwell/Yardy.

Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Being tipped for England stardom on this thread has obviously gone to their heads
In the current round of CC matches they've all struggled to reach 30 when batting: Rashid (7), Stokes (14 & 22), Taylor (7 & 24), Lyth (0 & 26), Buttler (0 & 12), Hildreth (0 & 5). Can't be bothered to work out the combined average but it's seriously paltry!
The malaise has spread to the bowling: Rashid (1 - 59 and 0 - 99). At least Topley took a few wickets.....
From a Surrey perspective at least The Hyphen (RHB) was not playing and so couldn't add to the list of woe.

on the plus side though corporal, Chris Woakes blasted a run-a-ball century and picked up nine wickets, so it's not all doom and gloom...

Jason Roy. Perhaps not a name so well known as some of the others mentioned although the Corporal and Carrot have had to put up with me banging on about this young batsman on the Surrey board for almost twelve months! In keeping with the Corporal's comments about the form of those being tipped for international stardom, Roy was out for a duck in a second XI game this week ....

James Hildreth scores big tons something England needs had a very good season last year.
Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Rashid still only has 1 wicket in three innings since that first match, Stokes hasn't done anything, Woakes batted well btu failed to take a wicket, Hildreth got a 50 the other day and James Taylor got a big double hundred albeit against a university side.

the main arguement against Hildreth is concistency, usually for somerset he goes good year, bad year, good year etc, so needs a few games to test him this season however he hit a 50 in first innings Vs Lancs so he could in some sort of form still

Buttler got 94* off 56 balls today for Somerset in the 40 over competition .... Looks as though his season has now started.

I'm very much hoping he can grow into the lower order big hitter that England really need. Luke Wright is definitely not the answer!
I know it's not a future star but excellent to see Simon Jones get 4 wickets today, Rashid played well despite Yorkshire's defeat as well.

Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Jimmy Taylor got a nice 69 off 61 balls in a Leics side that collapsed around him! Hopefully he can build on his 200 against the Uni side and get some runs in the Championship. With Hildreth, Mogs and Bopara not getting runs who is going to be in the Test Side for Colly this summer? Eoin still favourite to begin with?

Taylor,Hildreth,Bopara and Morgan will be eager to replace Collingwood.Morgans the likely favourite though.
Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Another excellent innings from Taylor today, albeit against poor bowling. He really looks like he knows what he's doing in the one day game and I'd love to see him in the ODI side.

Watch out for Gareth Berg forcing himself into The ODI side.
Consistently fine performances with bat and ball from this ever improving cricketer are not going unnoticed .

Lover - I believe he's called the Ice Man but otherwise know very little about Gareth Berg. Unfairly from what you write I had jumped to the view last season that he was 'a bits and pieces' player. Can you please educate me (and perhaps a few others) a bit more about him, thanks.
Carrot - Taylor is a class performer. Most impressed when I saw him at the Oval last season.

haven't seen Taylor live yet, however i still believe it's a 2 horse race for Sri Lanka between Morgan due to staring in the ODI and T20 team and Hildreth who lead the Lions over the winter continuing from the excellent form he had last season, this season having a hit and miss start admittidly however would still remain as best of the rest so to say.

Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Gareth is certainly 'The Ice Man' Gb for obvious reasons, however it is a nickname that suits him well.
Totally unflappable in all situations, his progress and improvementover the past few seasons has been more than impressive.
He has to serve a long period of qualification after coming over from South Africa, and was about 25 before he got a chance in County Cricket.
He played for Radlett and was spotted by former Middlesex coach John Emburey and came on his recommendation.
He's certainly not to high at number six in the order and worth his place for his batting alone,he is the fastest scorer in the side but his bowling is an added bonus, quicker than he looks with an economical action and the ability to move it away from the right-handers,he forms an integral part of our attack,Injury in the second half of last season prevented him bowling but now fully recovered.
Two match winning performances in successive days are indication of his worth.
A fine fielder he fulfills all the requirements of a genuine all-rounder and is the first name on the team sheet in all forms of competition.
But doubtless you'll be able to judge for yourself this week when hopefully he'll play a full part in our next championship win.

James Taylor is a shoe in for England down the line. Love watching this kid bat and he has that X Factor to boot.
He's head and shoulders above anyone else his age in England.
Throw in he has already scored 3 First Class double hundreds, the kid just has an appetite for big runs.

If Gareth Berg gets into the England side i'll run around my street naked.Hes just a bits and piece cricketer. If anyone has a chance of getting into the one-day side it will be Dawid Malan hes a very talented cricketer.

Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
haha and yeah but where would someone like Berg fit in the one day squad? Pietersen and Strauss then batting down to 6,Prior at 7 and the bowlers at 8.As iv'e said hes a bits and piece cricketer.Hes not good enough to bat in the top 6 and with the bowlers England have hes not going to fit in really anywhere.Prior isn't gonna get moved to 6 as he's the finisher of the innings. With the likes of Hildreth,Taylor,Woakes emerging do you think he stands a chance of even getting into the squad?

Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
Whilst the likes of Wright and Yardy are considered good enough to represent England, then why should not a far better cricketer like Berg not do so.
Brought up in South Africa he's a tough player with all the attributes of his countryman who have made it through the system to play for England.
Just take a look at Berg's stats.and you'll see how they measure up.
Dawid Malan is indeed possessed of much talent, but has not learned or progressed as much as has been hoped, inconsistent, with the bat, expensive bowler,he's way down the pecking order, probably more suited to the longer game,

Must remember Malans only 23 consistency will come as age goes on.I would say hes more suited too the one day side hes already made a twenty 20 century.
Re: The 'Possible Future England Stars' Thread
I know how old he is and how long he's been playing and he still averages barely over 19 in 40 or 50 over cricket, hardly likely to get him into an Engfland side in the near future.
The 20'20 100 was a spectacular effort admittedly, but he's never ever approached that sort of form since.
