Dredd 2012 trailer
The debut trailer for the new Judge Dredd reboot has finally been released and it looks like its going to be a far more faithful adaptation than the Stallone version of 1995. I am extremely excited about this new film and think that using a rising star like Karl Urban rather than a fully fledged house hold name is a really intelligent decision due to the anonymity of the character. The action sequences look intense and suitably gritty without giving too much away from the storyline; while at the same time the captions give a good synopsis. Overall I am impressed by this trailer as I think its tone fits the nature of the 2000AD Judge comics, which to my understanding have always been in a sub-culture of their own in terms of comic books.

Re: Dredd 2012 trailer
Signs are looking good for this film.
The photos and trailer are giving some idea of the flavour / feel, and although Johannesburg as Mega City One is quite different than the picture in my head, I'm hoping this will be a high quality movie given the people involved and what's been written about their approach / attitude.
I'm not familiar with the Lena Headey character ("Ma Ma") though, and wonder if Olivia Thirlby's rookie Judge Anderson will more straightforwardly act as a foil to Dredd than the traditional portrayal - I'm guessing that they're going for gritty, realistic, "dirty" sci fi and will steer away from the further out-there elements from the pages of 2000AD such as psychics and aliens.

Re: Dredd 2012 trailer
the feeling I'm getting from the trailer is the dystopia of Mega City - that while the Judge's keep order the tyranny of chaos is always ready to pour over. Setting the film in a slum tower block I think is a great idea as it really establishes both the grittiness of the film but also of the nature of Mega City justice against the criminal underworld. I heard though that rookie Judge Anderson is meant to have psychic abilities.

Interesting that she will be a psi in the film. Also confirmed by the official website, now I've bothered to have a look: http://dreddthemovie.com/#/synopsis
What are the odds on a post-credits appearance by Judge Death? Somewhere between slim to none I suspect (similar to the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field... in a TIE fighter, not the Millenium Falcon), but I bet someone has at least suggested/considered the notion.

Re: Dredd 2012 trailer
I'd heard somewhere else that there had been interviews this week, but here's Empire's:
http://www.empireonline.com/interviews/interview.asp?IID=1530
Both this and another source I stumbled across the other day (IGN? can't remember) confirm the possibility that Judge Death / Dark Judges might feature in a sequel. Whether there is a sequel or not all depends on economics ($50m I think was the box office receipts figure mooted - sounds low to me, but this is essentially an independent film).
Anyway, let's not get ahead of ourselves - us punters and the critics first need to pass judgement (as it were) on Dredd come September.

Re: Dredd 2012 trailer
excellent interview from empire fills me with confidence for the vision and direction of this remake. The character is definitely the most important aspect of any Dredd film. After the DKR Dredd is my next most anticipated film!

The film has been screened at Comic-Con.
Empire say it's "solid, often excellent": http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34550
EDIT: and here's a longer write-up from someone else: http://comicbook.com/blog/2012/07/12/dredd-the-comicbook-com-review/

Re: Dredd 2012 trailer
If Die Hard and Sin City had an awesome, brilliant, violent baby, this film would be it.
Love it!
The gore and cussing does surprise me alittle, only because not many films go all out nowadays (at least not the action films I go and see in the cinema - what passes for the b-movie straight to dvd zombiefests you see I have no idea).
Nevertheless I am still pumped to see this film and am even more curious now to see it.

There is now also a slo mo clip available on the official website - note age warning given violent content.
