Wimbledon Day 10
Now it's really business time.
The matches have been previewed a done the order of play is out. Federer will be relieved to be on Centre and hoping for rain and a covered court. Murray too, as both stand to benefit if they win and their opponents have to play Thursday. I have no idea what the forecast is though.

90% chance of precipitation tomorrow, and 80% on thursday but only light rain.
i honestly don't believe murray will have learnt how to beat ferrer in 5 sets.
apart from 1 bad set against Roddick he has been in fine fettle.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
The forecast is patchy - set to be alternately overcast and raining during the day with dry periods around 1pm and 4pm.
I would not be surprised if they put two singles matches on CC and try to make up for lost time if the second No. 1 match can't get on. It is Djoko's turn on No. 1 tomorrow, so expect him to be the last to get a show on CC after Monday's rigidity.
They must be having nightmares about the doubles matches that need to be played.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
So the Federer & Murray matches are certain to finish, with the Tsonga one likely to get a help if there's rain. Meanwhile Djokovic would never transfer to CC.
Given the current situation Fed needs all the help he can get, so here's hoping Nole has to play a mega 5 setter on Thursday! (some hope!).
Naughty I know, but anyway I only give Fed a 25% chance of making the semi unless he has a miracle cure.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
I will be interested to see how Federer is moving tomorrow. He seemed quite optimistic that it would be fine by tomorrow. If he's right, not only do I think he'll win in straights tomorrow, but I think he'll give Novak a very tough match.
Murray Ferrer is an interesting one. On paper, Murray does everything better. Bigger serve, better return, more power, better mover (just), and more imagination. But Ferrer has an incredible will and has been playing superbly.
I'm a bit worried about Ferer's form, but I edge it to Murray. The H2H may be 5-5 but 4 of the Ferrer wins are on clay where Ferrer moves like a dream and Murray doesn't move anywhere near as well as on hard and grass.
I too rather selfishly hope that tomorrow is none stop rain, and I hope the other 2 quarters roll over to Thursday. I'm looking forward to it though. Despite a generally disappointing last round compared to the rest of it, it's still been the most interesting slam in years in my opinion.

i seriously wouldn't put his lack of enthusiasm for the last 2 matches on a back injury, to me it seems like a virus. if it was his back he would be grimacing atleast a few times.

I think 25% is a ridiculous assessment of how Fed has played even with the bad back. All indications are a Federer win.

I did, and I also watched Federer make some amazing shots (loads of drop shot winners) with a bad back and take one of the sets 6-1. It wasn't great but you make it sound like Federer was standing still the entire match.

Bogbrush - I think he may get through tomorrow even if his back is no better.
But we will be able to judge from his movement if he can realistically challenge Novak.

The thing that gives me hope is Federer was still executing some great shots even with that back which is bound to be a little better tomorrow if anything, plus he is in Youzhny's head... if you are 13-0 down H2H, you go into the match already beaten...

Youzhny is a good geezer, just can't handle packed stadiums.
Top notch on court 12 or court 18, wouldn't bet on him on CC.

I am not basing my prediction on either.. I am basing them on stone cold fact. Federer can beat Youzhny even at 70% and he is in his head, and he comes into this from Halle win and a 13-0 record. Youzhny has taken 3 sets off Federer in his career.
I dunno why people are so concerned. Federer is clear favourite and I bet the bookies think so too. We will see tomorrow... I expect more doomsdaying though even when Fed is serving for the match 2-0 up in sets.

If you are all so confident of a fed loss, make some money. Bookies have Fed at 1/8 and Youz at 5-1.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
Exactly, Danny a back injury is something I have had myself and if he was able to recover in the match and comeback and move well against Youzhny then he has a good shot of managing it. I think it benefits Fed to be on center so as you don't have a lot of play stoppages where you body goes cold over the course of the match. I agree it is too early to tell, most guys are carrying knocks, if Roger can move well against Youz he probably can work through the tournament physically. To early to tell, however he didn't play great ever agaisnt Malisse, if Malisse could have played more consistently and could hit his backhand up the line to open up court and move federer it would have been a different match. Malisse was pretty horrible during that match.

Youzhny has a sterling chance of winning this. Especially as it is a BO5. Though you can't help but give Federer the edge because Youzhny will have dips that will see him spray filth out of the court or into the net.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
I still feel Roger Federer will win through today in perhaps four sets (maybe even three if his back doesn't trouble him).
I would also think Murray will win through. Depends on how Murray approaches it as to the result, If he is largely aggressive and attacking, dictating the rallies he wins in three or four sets but a little too passive then it could be very close and far too passive then Ferrer wins.
Djokovic will win through in straight sets I reckon.
Tsonga/Kohlschreiber could be interesting but I reckon Tsonga will win in four.

Kohli is very good these days I can see him upsetting Jo.
Ferrer can do to Murray what Murray does to so many others, irritate the hell out of him. I hope that one goes 5 sets, not because I like how either of them play as it makes me cringe, but because they are evenly matched.

I can see Kohlshreiber beating Tsonga as well. He is playing really well and the surface suits his style. I think that is going to be a real tough match. I am predicting a 5 setter.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10
The serve will dictate that match. If Kohlschreiber can serve about 65% I fancy him to take out Tsonga. He has the tools to punish the Tsonga 2nd serve too.
It will be a baseline bash fest though. Fish was a poor matchup to Tsonga and I felt if Fish had any miles under his belt going into that match he would've taken Tsonga out.
It is an intriguing match like the Djokovic and Mayer match. Mayer can get under the Djokovic's skin with his variation.
Both matches you feel if one plays dreadful that it will be one way traffic.

Federer to win in 3 sets
If the Fed turns up and plays decent he'll win. Nerves for Youzhny + 1st Wimby QF make show.
Murray to win in 4 sets
Murray has to serve well otherwise it will be a long afternoon (literally). I don't care how well Ferrer is playing. If Murray plays near his best, Ferrer doesn't come near him on a grass court. I like David though so hope it's not too bad on him.
Djokovic to win in 3 sets
Close sets but Novak to nick a break in each. With the rain scheduled he'll be eager to win it quickly and may end up going for shots. Could backfire but won't.
Tsonga to win in 4 sets or Kohlschreiber to win in 3
Depends how well Phil is playing and Tsonga's back injury is. I haven't seen Phil so I can't say but his results are looking good and the Nadal defeat hasn't affected him. All depends on whether Tsonga is injured or not. I'll be cheering on Phil.
