The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Oxford - the new location for newly promoted London Welsh.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the montage of pictures of Lyn Jones above the bar.

How is your good self these days?
Yep, off to the park tonight for Stone Roses - and it actually looks like it might be dry as well - bleedin miracle - can't wait!
Also off to see 25th anniversary Paul Simon Graceland show (wife is being ligged by some corporate so lots of food and drink as well - yippee). And then the Boss is back - could only get a standing ticket so hope these fiftysomething old bones hold up)
On another topic, any Jack Reacher fans out there (for the uninitiated he's the hero/antihero of the Lee Child books) - a 6'4" former military cop who travels around USA with a toothbrush and kicking the shoite out of all sorts of low lifes). Now see that there's a movie coming out and who does Hollywood get to play the 6'4" Jack Reacher - that bleedin midget scientologist Tom Cruise. Absolutely disgusted.

Good man Brenno.
Sounds like a fun time will be had bud.
Last time I saw the Stone Roses, at The Paradiso... they were sooo stoned.
Was brilliant though.
Id love to go to that Paul Simon gig. Ladysmith Black Mambazo as well. Quallateeeeee! Man, I was nearly going to stay in Dublin longer for it.

Oh you lot are on form this afternoon!
Rava, it will indeed be from home.
As, thanks for those links, there's some great ideas there. Sweeties, sweetie jars, christmas, hmmm...
I'm off out shortly, going out for tea with the people I worked with up until last Friday. Bit of a leaving do for me and the others who've moved on. They're the ones who put this whole cake business idea into my head so I shall take your fab suggestions with me.
It's going to be a bit of a evening in some ways so I apologise in advance if I'm in here later on a tad emotional. I'm driving though so at least I won't be alcohol induced maudlin.
Thanks everyone for all your input and support, really do appreciate it

Now I'd love to see Paul Simon in concert. I'd prefer to see Simon and Garfunkel in concert, but Simon on his own wouldn't be a bad second prize.

Yep, was a really good show on BBC a couple of nights ago on the making of the original album - all the political stuff with Simon being criticised by Artists against Apartheid for allegedly breaking the cultural boycott of SA. Saw the original concert in that Simmonscourt barn in the RDS 25 years ago and was fantastic - hope next week's as good. Ladysmith Black Mambazo and most of the original musicians are playing too, not sure about Hugh Masakela. Real pity that Miriam Makeba passed away a few years ago - absolutely magnificent voice

Brenno, I would love to see the Paul Simon concert. I'm going to be travelling to London during the Hyde Park Concert
I am a big Reacher fan as well. Can't believe they are casting the midget in his role. Laughable really. I watched the trailer the other night. First thing struck me was the car! The only thing Reacher owns is a toothbrush
I'll probably go see it anyway though

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
Swanny,
I've seen these Cup Cake franchise ads on here in the last few weeks. Irritating girl, cakes look awful... the wrong way to present a cheap idea I believe.
So obviously go for quality, proper presentation, etc - not a cheap & nasty production line thing. The dunking doughnut / cheesecake type franchise sales are struggling compared to a few years ago.
I saw the pics of your cakes - maybe needs some kind of stylish 'signature' baked into it - or a free 'pair of eyes' or something.
Did you ever see Mildred Pierce?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mildred_Pierce_%28film%29
In the modern version she fills in for the chef who is sick... starts making the cakes at home (everyone loves them) and the business takes off.
There's that sense of baking one or two dozen,... then truckloads. Cakes everywhere.
The whole house is filled with ingredients and cardboard boxes.

Image search seems to yield a combination of mainly Les Kiss the Australian defence coach but also blonde models, kissing.

Afternoon all. Just a quick check in, sitting on the grass outside the Tower of London with a beer, good times at the work summer "event". So far we've been orienteering between Tower bridge and London bridge, and painting a massive picture- there's 500 of us in teams of 9 so each team had to paint a couple of canvases which are all being joined together now.
I saw the Paul Simon doco, really interesting.
And congrats Rory.
