The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Oxford - the new location for newly promoted London Welsh.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the montage of pictures of Lyn Jones above the bar.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
I doubt many of you will have heard of this guy who just received an Honorary Doctorate from my Alma Mater.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18712953
He was a very good rower who then lost his sight at 22 and went on to win Commonwealth medals in Rowing, complete marathons and become the first Blind man to trek to the South Pole. He was a motivational speaker too.
Then, 2 years ago he fell from a window while sleep waling and became paralysed from the waist down. How do you continue on from all that? But he does!

Evening pub
Rory, congratulations on the job, well done you!
My Victoria Sandwich Cake passed the mum test!! I even got a "... it's lovely, I can't fault it" from her!
In other news, Isobelle appears to have added another word to her vocabulary. I arrived at my mum's house (sis was working so mum had the littlies), parked in the drive and let myself in.
From somewhere in the house she yells, "Hello darling, how are you?" I reply that I'm fine. Later on we have a conversation.
Izzy "Auntie K, may I have a piece of your cake please darling."
Me "Yes you can, there you go."
Izzy "Thank you darling."
5 minutes later...
Izzy "Thank you, that cake was very very yummy darling."
I have a horrible suspicion I may be at least partly to blame for this. I know she can be a prima donna at times but now she's turning into a luvvie too! She's not even 4 yet!!

Kids are great for "reflecting" what we say and do subconsciously. The thing I noticed most was how they would act when they were pretending to be on the phone!

Indeed MrsP, both my sister and I have been pulled up a few times by what Isobelle's picked up. Today's was just hilarious!
Is it intentional copying do you think?

Bore da pawb / good morning all, it's sunny here this morning! It feels so strange!
You learn pretty sharpish not to swear in front of children. It didn't take long for my eldest niece to pick up "for f***'s sake" from her dad!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
Morning all,
On the subject of kids picking things up, what I noticed most was, when they picked up a pretend phone they immediately walked out of the room with it! Presumably I did that in a vain attempt to be able to hear the person on the other end of the line over the din the kids are making but I certainly would not have realised that until I saw the kids doing it! Very strange.
I am not sure kids consciously copy the adults around them, it's just that that is how they learn anything.

Ah ha!
Now I understand. I wasn't quite sure if the 2 things were linked!
We are (ooops! My finger slipped there and it turned into a rude word!) all very well thank you! Unfortunately the rain is back though.

It's sunny here today, hope the rain stays off. Not too keen on wading through a quagmire to get to / from this gig.
It feels like every bloody summer is wetter than the last one these days.

Glas,
Some of us do not set our standards by what this site judges to be rude!
Bikkies,
Sure just pretend it a Festival and you'll be grand!

Prop if she is poorly you could bring her breakfast in bed. Make sure there are loads of fluid in the house and that your missus gets the rest she needs.
She'll be back up and washing your socks in no time at all.

Your digging yourself a massive hole lately Stag!!
MrsP: Bascially it didn't rinse first time I sued it and now it's jammed. Trying what the company said to do and if not it's off to the agency I go and tell them to sort it!!

Prop, lawyers are renowned for getting in the way - take Glas out of the main compartment, replace with your clothes, and follow the instructions - should be fine.prop_lyd wrote:Your digging yourself a massive hole lately Stag!!

Prop, type in the make and model into google, there will no doubt be other people with the same problem and they’ll tell you how to fix it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
When my kids are going to play a game they frequently embark on protracted discussions about what is going to happen in the game and who is going to do what and when and how, to such an extent that it's time to go to school/bed/ballet/athletics/pianolesson..... and there is no time to actually play the game.
I am reminded of that frequently when reading certain contributions on here.
