The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Oxford - the new location for newly promoted London Welsh.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the montage of pictures of Lyn Jones above the bar.

4-0 already to Serena in the tennis final, ouch
I'm going to bake loads of cupcakes with my sister later I think. She's off to Norway for a couple of weeks tomorrow as a research assistant with one of her friends that's doing a PhD on Glaciers. She's going to visit mini glaciers! I'm quite jealous

I did indeed, I decided on TT's suggestion of Tokens of my Confection in the end. Some of the others were fab but that encompasses sweets too, which I also intend to do.
Just need to expand my sweetie repertoire beyond peppermint creams and fudge!!
Hope your sister has a great time Dreamer, that sounds amazing!

Yes Swanny,
Bougainvillea and frangipanis, coconut palms and banana trees (here in the 'grove' area and where I grew up in Ku-ring-gai)... and when spring comes (the first warm nor-westerlies) add some Jasmine and roses and there is the best aroma imaginable.
It's like being on a tropical island - with the same plants and trees.
(they're out there now freezing in the winter though... tough, weather resistant buggers... and have grown since last year)
Powerful start from Serena... my god she knows how to really hit it.
Unless she has some kind of mental lapse and Radwanska finds a way to get back in this set... it's all over.

Afternoon All
Swanny - best of luck with the business, and that's a top name too! Well done Thom!
It hasn't stopped raining here since about four o'clock yesterday afternoon. One of my work pals went to the British GP in Silverstone yesterday too. I went to work this morning and got some good constructive overtime in. It's all going to pay for my next trip away.
I really couldn't give a monkeys about any of the tennis. More importantly the Dubs hurlers have got a game they HAVE to win this evening. COYBIB!!

Holy moly. Trying to get electric reconnected at a property we just purchased. Ready to throw phone on floor and stamp on it.

Hi Puma - Dealing with utility companies sucks at the best of times.
I'm just not into the tennis. Of course the press go mad now Murray's through. That man will have the weight of the world on his shoulders in the final. Poor buggger.

It's enough to drive you potty. Listening to crap electronic music while they pass you from one 'team' to another, where you have to explain everything right from scratch AGAIN. That's after negotiating the endless option menus. . Anyway, npower just lost the gig, curse them and all their minions.
Not just the press going mad over Murray, who strikes me as being about as colourful as a puddle of ditchwater - not that he can help that, I guess. Though there is something quite funny about the massed ranks of middle England thrashing themselves into a frenzy over a Scot! At least he has a chance of actually winning the thing, unlike nice but even duller Timmy.

He's still an outsider, but I do hope he pulls off an upset. Not very often I'm pulling in the same direction as middle England but I just like the guy.

Huge shake-up in TdF - Wiggins in yellow 10 secs ahead of Cadel Evans, Nicolas Roche 8th 1'22" behind. My bets on Evans to finish in yellow.

wooo Brit guy in Final action now in the men's doubles, go Marray! (yes that's right, not Murray)
I never get why people complain so much about Murray's off court demeanour. Not everyone's great at interviews. If you read his articles and things though, he's actually a really witty guy

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
brenno - Wiggins has always been 10 sec ahead of Cadel though so not that much of a shake up, was v impressed by the work from Team Sky to keep Wiggo up there though, will be interesting to see if they can keep it up. So chuffed for Froome winning the stage
Reckon you might be right on Cadel winning it over all though, he's just that much better in the mountains. Will depend on how much Wiggins has left for the next TT I guess, and if he can avoid getting dropped on the climbs.

brennomac, it was a great race with a huge lot of work done by Team Sky for Wiggins. Hopefully Wiggins can win this year.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
Dreamer, just think Evans strength in the mountains will outweigh Wiggins in the TTs, will probably be pretty close by the end, wouldn't expect to see a huge margin whoever wins. Agree was a great race - just shows you don't have to go through the Alps and Pyrenees to get a savage climb. Never been through the Jura Mts - look fabulous

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Oxford
I just always love the supporters that make their way to the top of the mountain. I mean where do they park to get there??!
Would love to do it myself one year, but I wouldn't want to get so close to the cyclists, I'd be terrified I'd cause a crash.
Just some beautiful places they race through.

Just looked at the TdF website - not the Jura Mts - today's stage was in the Vosges - and they describe the stage as "medium mountains". Yikes!

There are 7 climbs on tomorrow's stage aren't there? Guess we're heading up more into cat 2 territory now.

That's the media for you. They want sports "personalties" as well as good athletes these days - and if they're good looking, even better for the advertisers.

This the profile of tomorrow's stage - quite short at 157km but seven climbs including 4 cat 2 and a final cat1

True that Cari, seems a bit daft to me. Sure he comes across as a bit grumpy, but he's one hell of a talented player, so from a tennis perspective alone there's loads to be admired

oof that's a nasty one, be interesting to see how much it effects the legs of Wiggins and that for the TT on Monday.

Well, this is tennis. The same sport that made Anna Kournikova famous when she was actually a bit crap in comparison. But a lot of people fancied her and she was going out with Enrique so...

Marray and Nielson win!
Can't remember the last time a British guy won the men's doubles!
They've never won a title before, they were a wildcard entry, this is INCREDIBLE!

It would be great for the game in the UK. Lendl seems to have hardened his resolve to win.

Absolutely cream crackered. Just left some friends into Belfast town. Some utter ejjits out on the road. Some guy tried to pull out into my lane. In an awesome simultaneous manoeuvre whilst on the phone, I swerved to avoid him, beeped my horn, gave him a hand gesture all in one go. Bed early tonight. Sweet dreams Andy!

That's nothing. The other morning, our bus driver drove a double decker bus through a busy junction, round a bend, stopped at a bus stop with one hand on the steering wheel and his foot up on the dashboard whilst tying his shoelace with the other hand all at the same time. Stupid, but I thought that took some skill. And we all lived.
Morning all
