Re: Liverpool FC Thread
From the LFC site
Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that Craig Bellamy has completed a transfer to Championship side Cardiff City.
The Welsh forward first joined Liverpool in 2006 but departed for West Ham a year later.
He returned to Anfield for a second stint in 2011 and in January 2012 netted the goal that took the Reds back to Wembley for the first time in 16 years.
In total Bellamy scored 18 goals in 79 games for Liverpool.
Everyone at the club would like to wish him all the best for the future

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Gutted. Bellamy was probably our best player last year behind Suarez.
Rodgers needs to move now and bring in at least two wingers to replace Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy.
Somebody needs to remind him of how awful J.Cole was last time around, he didn't put in an ounce of effort and he isn't quick or fit enough to be relied upon as a winger.

Yeah, I can see the same thing happening again, poor away and then good at home. Hopefully the same won't be true in the league, will just be a reverse of last year.

Had a little look around today regarding any transfer movement
According to reports in Italy we have placed a bid of 12.6 million for Gaston Ramirez today . Also looks like we are now in pole position to take Sahin on loan from Real Madrid

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Ramirez deal would be a great one.
Not too sure on the Sahin deal, with Allen coming in we'll be pretty bloated in the central midfield area. Would expect Spearing to go out on loan if that is the case.
I think transfer priorities should be:
Finish Allen deal.
Winger (Gaston Ramirez)
Winger (Really not sure)
Ensure Agger stays.
LB (Cover for Enrique, at the moment we have Robinson and then Agger and Johnson would could play there)

Do you think Moses from Wigan would be worth a punt on the wing ?

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
As long as we don't bring in another midfielder, I'd hope Shelvey can stick around. He's developing at a nice pace and will learn more under Gerrard than anywhere else.
I do rate Moses, it just depends how much we can get him for. It looks pretty likely that he's off to Chelsea and for nearly £10m which is far too much.
I think that Adam Johnson would be a decent option, but I'm wary about getting into business with City who will try and get Agger into any kind of deal.
I just don't have any realistic ideas for another winger, Walcott is on his last year, but I imagine Arsenal will demand quite a bit of money.

If we do sign Ramirez though, it would mean we already have two right wingers who cut in with their left foot. As much as I'd like to see Downing on the left, I think Rodgers is going to use him on the right. We wouldn't really need Johnson.
We need a left winger, perhaps one who cuts in on his right foot. I just can't think of anybody.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
We definatley need wingers, we have a ridiculous amout of CMs if even before allen comes.(granted some arent great but still). We've needed quality width for a few seasons now! And like someone pointed out with the old guard gone(maxi, kuyt and bellamy) we need it now more than ever!

That was quick. Good.
Now Rodgers can quickly move to secure ourselves at least one more winger.
Will edit the first post with recent news etc.

Allen will wear the number 24 shirt.
The last player to wear that number was David N'Gog, let's hope he does better.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Allen is an interesting signing to say the least. Whilst his passing stats were regularly highlighted last season he didn't really - in my eyes anyway - pull up any trees. 15 million is a big risk.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
For me Allen is a great player, far better than Britton at Swansea. £15 million is far too much for him, but he is still a great player and I think he will do well at Liverpool. It is a big loss for Swansea, who have to replace him and Sigurdsson this pre season

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
It will hopefully help Rodgers instill his philosophy though, which I think he'd struggle with the central midfielders we have, it means he can sit deep and act as playmaker.
Borini----------------Suarez------------Downing/new winger
----------Gerrard-----Allen----Lucas-------
Enrique--Agger------------Skrtel--------Johnson
----------------------Reina-----------------------------
Is anybody really convinced that we have improved a lot. I'm not sure on Borini, I hope he can come good, but not really convinced. A new winger would definitely help. Lucas was the big loss last year.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Not a great deal of height there in our attackers. Perhaps an out and out winger with an emphasis on crossing may not be so needed? Unless of course Carroll manages to swing back into favour?
Rodgers appears to model his teams on a more continental style putting possession before penetration.
That said I'd like to see Adam Johnson arrive.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Weirdly I felt against Gomel there were plenty of times that our players were whipping balls in that Carroll would have thrived on, but Suarez just wasn't tall enough for.
Either Rodgers will utilise Carroll more than we thought, or he'll stamp that out.
I think the fans are going to force Rodgers to keep Carroll and I have a feeling he'll turn it around, and prove he can have a role in the system.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
I think Carroll has been dealt with pretty roughly since Rodgers' arrival and suspect he is already gone. This has got a deadline day sale written all over it!
Hope I'm wrong though. Carroll had a very good final third of last season and probably deserves better.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
If Carroll goes, people will suss out Liverpool quicker. Carroll offers the alternative every club needs, a plan B. If not people will just force Liverpool out wide, so they have to cross, which the CB's will gobble up

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Allen is ' that ' player who everything will go through , he will sit in the middle get the ball and pass it on again and again which is why his stats are so good . For me i like that it upsets opposing teams making them chase the ball more .

I do think the 4-3-1-2 formation works very well against Rodgers's teams, but only if the full backs can handle the wingers. I know Lambert did Rodgers twice last season using that formation...

I know
Hence why outside bet for the season is for Villa to do the double of Liverpool
But seriously, his formation can be worked out, so thats why I think he's gotta keep Carroll so he can vary it

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
First half we looked pretty good, some nice passing at times, a bit like the Gomel game in places. I was only half watching the second half though, so I dunno, but there where a number of changes in the second half.
Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Bit hard to judge as this was played as a pre season game with all the subs and trying things out . But a win is a win

Daniel Agger has said he would prefer to stay at Liverpool but says he understands that if a bid of 25+million comes in he maybe sold . He aslo explain his new tattoo YNWA on his knuckles is his way of showing how much he appreciates the fans and city .
Martin Skrtel is expected to sign a new 4 year deal by the end of the week .

I'm glad that as the season draws closer, things are becoming more possible. Just hoping no big bid comes in for Agger, don't want to disrupt the back four.
Just hoping to hear of a winger being signed within the next few days, hopefully somebody like Ramirez will be signed by the time we face West Brom.

I like the home shirt, I don't like the away shirt (the one that looks like a wet suit) and the third kit is alright. I think because of the old school style of the home shirt, they've tried to make the other two a bit more modern.

I have seen the away kit compared to this kit from 1900 in having the colour around the neck. don't know if that is actually the inspiration or not though
