Re: Big Premier League Signings II
The Moura deal is no way dead in the water, the only reason an agent would state that would be to apply pressure to the people holding up the deal.
This pretty much sums it up (taken from Sportingwitness):
This pretty much sums it up (taken from Sportingwitness):
Quotes from Lucas Moura's agent, Wagner Ribeiro have made their way to England this morning and caused quite a fuss. He appears to have poured cold water over his client's proposed transfer to Manchester United.
But being the experienced agent he is, what he said to the media will have been meant to call someone to action and in this case it was probably another message to under siege Juvenal Juvencio. Let's not forget that Sao Paulo president Juvenal Juvencio has been under incredible pressure from the club's board to agree a deal over the past few days.
Indeed, as Wagner Riberio was having a strop in front of Brazilian journalists, other media outlets in the country - larger ones if that's of any relevance - were writing stories about a final bid from Manchester United for the player, which will be submitted on Wednesday. Globo Esporte and Lancenet both led on that last night rather than Ribeiro's strop.
The agents comments, taken from UOL, were:
"They reached the limit, will not offer anything more.
"He will not leave."
He elaborated slightly but it was just to repeat his original point that the deal was now past saving, but that doesn't quite add up. An agent would drag the obviously dead body of a transfer into sunlight and insist on giving it CPR in the hope that he could breathe some life back into it. This is, after all, what agents in transfers do - everything possible to make it happen.
If that involves throwing their toys, cigars and multiple smart phones out of the pram then so be it and the more public the better. It's unlikely the deal is as dead as a Dodo (he represents him too) and if it was close to that stage then Ribeiro wouldn't take it on the chin but do everything possible to save it.
This is the man who took Moura's parents to Madrid to meet Florentino Perez of Real Madrid, angering Sao Paulo. The same man who has been selling Neymar for several years and the same man who has constructed a whole circus around Hulk for the past two summers. The same man who had Chelsea selling Robinho shirts before he finalised a transfer to Manchester City, with his client not being sure of which club he'd joined.
If Wagner Ribeiro can do anything to make a transfer happen he will, and if that means turning the board of Sao Paulo against their president then it's no problem at all.
Of all the parties involved in this potential transfer there's probably one whose word should be taken rather more lightly than others.

Doesn't look great if hes having to do CPR tho Hero. Though it does look like SAF wants to make a statement signing.
QPR want to loan Barton to a football league side who'll play 12 games quicker. Not sure thats on really.

Seriously though, Uniteds kit is awful. Didn't think they'd find a way to top putting a black arrow on a red shirt, but there you go

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Van Persie to Man Utd (if it happens) strikes me as nothing more than a "look, we can compete for players" signing; very much like Robinho to Man City. The only purpose of that transfer was so everyone knew Man City were prepared to spend big and Robinho was duly shipped out not long afterwards. I don't think it will be like that for Man Utd with RVP arriving and leaving soon but it's a bit of a marquee signing. (Again, if it happens)
As for Lucas, I'd never trust an agent but I do think 40m euros is extortionate.

I know this is the premier league thread but what is going on at AC Milan, so far they have let go Ibra and Thiago Silva who are world class. Now are thinking of letting go of Robinho, Gattuso is away,Seedorf and Pirlo last season, they must be in some serious financial trouble. I'd have a sniff about there, hint Newcastle

But £50M for Silva and Ibra for PSG in my opinion was a steal. Considering Ibra scores for fun, and Silva is argueably the best CB in the world

The veterans were way past their sell by date. Gattuso was rotten in the end, never been the same since Joe Jordan got his hands on him They could get better than Ibi yes, but Silva makes me think the club is in horrific financial difficulties.

What is Fergie's sudden obsession with South Americans I wonder. Are Man Utd suddenly looking for South American talent + sponsorships?

From reports over in Brazil (rather than journalists here who pick names out of a hat) Utd are still in talks with Sao Paulo today over Moura.

for joe allen? don't think so. he's a player who has a brilliant future, one of the best technically gifted players wales or rather britian has seen in a very long time.
he has a superb first touch, range of short and long passing and incredible agility and speed due to his size. Put it this way, i would genuinely love it if joe allen signed for utd.

I'd stretch to 7.5m. 10m is too much.
Considering Swansea got Michu for 2m, they're laughing.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Apparently it's 13.5 million which frankly goes along the lines with Liverpool's ridiculous payments for players who have done relatively little. Still no width and no decent centre forward. Also apparently second choice Doni is apparently going back to Brazil, he's a good goalkeeper, i hope for Liverpool they have someone decent coming in.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
its cos he's only like, 23. michu was 26 and playing for rayo, not too high profile and also take into account his contract. i would agree around 7-8m would be sufficient but swansea will be right to demand that price, that way they may hold onto him or be able to bring in 3-4 decent players for the money they receive.

Yeah, it fits in perfectly with Liverpools transfer policy of overpaying for British players with 1 season of PL experience

i do think he's a little better than downing/adam/henderson though, add spearing to that equation.
i agree liverpool need some genuine wingers. someone like maybe hoillet would have been a good buy at a small price, very fast and showed some real quality for a pretty awful rovers side last season.

No offense though but your Welsh so you would say that :p
Basically Adam was fantastic for a smaller team, as was Henderson and Downing had been a decent player for a few years but when these players go to a team that's expected to win more often that not they often can't cope. I'd say Liverpool need to bin the UK players and look abroad for far better players at smaller prices.

Look don't get me wrong, 13.5m isn't a small price to pay but not many foreign players at top clubs will leave for less than 15m unfortunately. Utd got a steal on kagawa but he was in his last year of his contract.
i know you may think my welsh bias is shining here but i genuinely believe allen is the real deal. whether he goes on fulfills his potential is another story, but, i've seen him many times for wales during speed's time and i think even though bale was superb, it was allen who was pulling the strings in midfield and was one of the players who made speed's short time in charge a success.

I hope you right martyr. I haven't seen enough of Allen to have an opinion on him, and I'm not particularly concerned about the fee as it will only be justified (or otherwise) by what he does for Liverpool - if he indeed does sign. The one thing I did notice about him though, was his willingness to receive the ball under pressure which to me is real bravery on a football pitch and not an attirubute you'd associate with many British players. Wilshire would be another exception though..

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
absolutely liverbnz, allen due to his agility and superb technical ability is very good on the ball and always makes himself available. As we saw last season, teams were trying to chase swansea down more yet swans players kept calm and kept on moving the ball around, allen is used to having pressure applied to him when on the ball. i think if he was playing for a bigger club, the fee wouldn't be an issue.

And Scholes
Sign Leon Britton, he's the real Xavi of the PL (literally, all he does is tap it 2 feet). I can't say anything about Allen as I've only watched Swansea for 90 minutes v Man Utd and they didn't do much but I hear he's getting great reviews.

galatasary seem to have a fair bit of money to spend. i think with cisse occupying the st position, ba is wasted on the flank so i think around 7-8m can buy them a decent winger or lf, someone like loic remy.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
astonishing deal. Borini now allen.....I'd love to know what Liverpool fans are thinking. I would not be that impressed with these deals in trying to bridge the gap to the top 4. Liverpool need a proven striker, creating chances was not a problem. I don't understand this deal, he is essentially another charlie adam waiting to happen coming from a small club. £13.5m shocks me!

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
i would think gerrard will be moved in behind the striker, like when he was with torres under benitez. that's the formation rodgers played at swansea, with sigurdsson in behind graham. allen will be the man who dictates the pace with lucas the man to break up attacks and stay back.
