I'd be very surprised if Gerrard plays behind the striker, which he hasn't for about 3 years. He doesn't have the legs to do it any more, that's why he's forced deep these days.
I imagine the first team will look something like (if we sign Allen, if not replace him with Henderson):
-------Borini-----
Suarez-------Bellamy
--------Allen-------
----Lucas----Gerrard
Enrique--Agger--Skrtel--Johnson
----------Reina--------------
with the back ups being:
--------Carroll----
Downing-------Cole
---------Henderson---
----Adam----------Spearing
Robinson--Coates--Carragher---Kelly
-----------Jones---------
I'm still not convinced that the first team has improved at all from last year. I'm glad we have more back up front, but I think it's mental that no wingers have been signed. Suarez isn't really a winger, and I don't think Cole will be good enough.

Why would Borini play on the wings and Suarez as a lone striker?

I thought we were gonna get Curtis Davies tbh. However I don't think there is that many real quality CB's floating in the Championship.
Also Turner was good at Hull, and Sunderland paid £10 million??? for him for a reason. Decent CB he is

He's only on 20, yet is so assured on the ball. Excellent passing range, always willing to get the ball, driving runs similar to Gerrard, can shoot from distance.

i understand he's only 20. tbh perhaps i've been too harsh on him. He did have some decent games last season, perhaps i'm confusing him to spearing. He's someone i just don't rate at all.

Is only 20 an excuse in the modern football world? Plenty of 20 year olds and younger tearing it up on the international stage just fine

I think people are slightly harsh on Spearing. He's obviously not a world class player, but he's a decent enough squad player, he always puts in 100% and does put in some good performances.

It's still unusual for a 20 year old to be so confident on the ball. It also depends on what country you're from how quickly you break onto the international team.

Suarez on the wing, Borini in the middle. Suarez isn't a great finisher.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Borini isn't proven at this level or at this historic club to be playing up top and Suarez on the wing. That's my point throughout, why did BR decide to spend that amount of money on Borini when there are plenty of other proven and available goalscorers around that could of enabled Suarez to play on the wing of a front 3 and give the manager confidence it would work. You can see what BR is doing, he's trying to play the long game bringing in these young players and develop his own team, however another failure in the league could see him out the door. No patience at Liverpool and that's the problem.
Borini, Suarez, Bellamy, Carroll - no natural or prolific goalscorer who you would have confidence in getting 20 a season in the league. Demba Ba/Defoe/Adebayor/Bent......to name a few that are proven. I still believe Villa and Lambert would of accepted a bid for Bent to provide funds for his plans at Villa.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
The problem with proven goalscorers at the top level is that they tend to cost upwards of 30m

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Maybe that's why they're after Dempsey, for 10 goals or so from midfield. I think they didn't go for Bent because of his injury. Plus Bent needs service and when you look at Liverpool's wingers they aren't good.
Agreed, Rodgers is trying to build his own team but he won't get the time and, like Di Matteo, may well be out the door at the end of the season if results aren't good.

Ba for£7m & Adebayor for around £6m - he's just about wages. It's all about Liverpools scouting I guess, I mean we picked up Cisse for £9m or so after he was banging them in the Bundesliga for two seasons. I don't see how Dempsey would improve Liverpool and he's nearly 30.

Only time will tell with Borini. From what I've seen, he is pacey and knows where the goal is and can play anyhere upfront in a 433 formation.

That seems a bit dodgy if it's true, there should be measures in place to stop ex managers from exploiting release clauses.

also swans not too happy about liverpool's interest in joe allen. Apparently they claim liverpool agreed not to try and sign the any of the club's players for at least 12 months, which is fair enough if you ask me.

Demba Ba £7m - 7 goals in 12 PL games for West Ham followed by 16 goals for Newcastle United last season
Adebayor £5.5m - 17 goals last year for Tottenham and over 70 PL goals for Man City & Arsenal
Irrelevant of their 'apparent' wage demands which can be negotiated, they are both less expensive and are proven PL goalscorers compared to Fabio Borini. Liverpool are expecting to challenge for a top 4 place and the fans, as always, want immediate results. BR is focusing on a long term project, however, as we all know, if the short term results are not positive and his young signings fail to produce, then he may find himself following in KD's direction.

Yeah, but their transfer fees are balanced out by their wage demands.
They're also both older than Borini, and it's pretty obvious that he was signed because Rodgers has worked with him before and rates him. Demba Ba has his knee issues, which led to Stoke not signing him, it's possible that they could flare up at any moment, and I imagine that's why the release clause is so low. Adebayor has a history of having an abrasive personality and is very inconsistent.
While I'm not convinced by the signing of Borini, I don't think Adebayor and Ba would that good of signings either.
