Re: Big Premier League Signings II
We desperately needed a winger of his ability on the left of a front three where Demba Ba had been getting so frustrated last season. At the end of the day, QPR's ridiculous wage offer was just to good to refuse.

how much did they offer Hoilett?

I can't believe that no big club has snapped him up. I would love to see him at Liverpool, I think he's a real star. Wasted at QPR.
Money talks.......why else is Thiago Silva perpared to waste his talents in the French League? :S

I'm not sure how much his wages are on, apparently Blackburn are seeking compensation, up to £6 million.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
If it's £6m and biggish wages (for that player at that sort of club) then I can see why none of the big clubs took a punt at him. It's a shame as a Newcastle, Villa or Everton could have done really well with him

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Ashley is not going to offer Hoilett wages of upto £50k under our policy that's why we missed out on him. QPR will blow silly money on journeyman and money grabbing youngsters and will no doubt struggle in and around relegation. They will find it difficult to offload these players on these ridiculous wages like Man City are with Adebayor & Bridge for example. If QPR do get relegated then there would be in even more serious trouble.

Are we about to witness another Portsmouth? I expect QPR to struggle again this season.

But aren't QPR owned by some ridiculously rich owners? Are they still owned by Bernie Echlestone? or did they get bought out by another similarly rich F1 business man?

That's right I thought I remembered that someone had bought Ernie out. He's got some serious cash behind him - I keep waiting for QPR to start spending the cash

Two decent enough signings.
It'll be interesting to see whether Snodgrass can make the step up to Premier League.

Not convinced by Turner.
Snodgrass might need to play a bit more centrally in the PL, not the quickest

It's not all about pace you know. Pilks isn't the quickest, and yet he was very effective last season. Turner, I don't particularly rate, but am willing to give him a chance if he can refind his old Hull form

I agree. But it's not as if Snodgrass is like Ward pace. Could be interesting to see who our 2 wingers out of him, Pilks and Bennett is

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Snodgrass is a good signing. I don't think he needs pace as he plays on the right like all modern day wingers do these days, left foot on the right, right on the left. So his game is based on cutting in and shooting and crossing. Hopefully he doesn't flop like Delph and Beckford did after leaving Leeds.
Still got nothing on Sinclair or Dyer thought eh Olly

Psh overrated those two. They merely tie Pilks laces.
They could flourish Martyr, like Johnson and Howson

The Hoilett deal aside, PL journeymen seems to be the order of the day. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go down

If the side can gel, it doesn't look a bad one. You then have Djbrill Cisse, DJ Campbell, Barton (booo), Mackie, Wright-Phillips, Onuoha in back up.
I just think they'll struggle in the same way they did last year because bar Hoillet, all their signings are fairly old and weren't doing great. Too many new signings.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
IF Johnson and Zamora can replicate their Fulham form then it's a very good front line, IF.
The defence is average looking in my opinion though and it could be a case of "you score 2 and we'll score 3" in order to get a win.
Paddy Kenny must feel hard done by being replaced by Green who is average.

i think they will play 4-5-1, hughes normal formation. so drop johnsen for someone like barton or mackie on the right and push taarabt in the middle behind the striker. still worry about there defence though. theres never been a smaller club who stayed up with a poor defence and relyed on just attacking players.
remains to be seen what nelson is like now, he was never quick and will have only got slower. dont rate anton or young. and fabio wont be fit all season. will probably miss more then he plays

Oscar has looked good for Brazil in this tournament, scored today.
Of all Brazil's six goals, Neymar or Oscar have either scored or assisted in all of them.

Can't see Defoe leaving or thinking about a transfer to a potentially bottom half of the table side. He's had a tough couple of months with two family deaths to deal with, so football will probably be playing second fiddle for a while yet.
Looks like Demba Ba may be staying in Newcastle as his £7m clause ticks down and reitirates his desire to stay. If a deal does go through his agent will pick up around £3.5m.......

I imagine his agent will be pushing very hard for a deal then - We could have done with him at Arsenal, but now we seem to be tying up Cardoza and the Real Madrid winger we don't really have space for him - surprised (and glad) Spurs ain't gone in for him though.
