aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

transfer window will be interesting . do they back him or sack him . i really think he would have gone if we lost against Sunderland . well done to cardiff on their New appointed manager . looking forward seeing what he can do because we nearly appointed him too but he decided to stay in norway and we had Lambert instead

Real shame.
We're pretty thin up front now.
Surely Helenius wont go out on loan, unless Lambert brings in a forward.

Re: aston villa thread
He should'nt be saying that.
May as well go for it and get as far as we can.
Yes the premiership is more important, but the FA cup is a great tournament and we should be doing our best to progress.
Sheff Utd will be up for it.
His comments will have annoyed some Villa fans.
If we lose then, he may not be to botherd, but the fans will.
Lets see who Lambert brings in this window.

I'm sure he would get some offers.
Just having a bad spell.
Its good for us though, cos i'm sure it wont be long till he scores again, then bang, the tekkers of last season will be back.

Re: aston villa thread
Just got back from Villa Park and wow.
The fella I went with has been moaning about how bad Villa have been all season but even I didn't think they could be that bad. They were atrocious.
Benkeke - unless he had the ball played to feet - wouldn't even look like running 5 yards. The appetite looks to have well and truly gone there. The rest of the side bar Albrighton (he at least tried) were shocking as well. I wish I had a pound for every overhit pass and wasted diagonal ball. I'd be able to buy a yacht and a pint with the leftovers.
Fans around the dugout area were throwing ripped up tickets at Lambert and the local radio phone in was littered with disgruntled fans calling for his head. I don't care for Lambert either way but him saying that Sheffield Utd didn't deserve the win was embarrassing. Utd more than earned that win.
You're always going to get a shock or two but that - in retrospect - wasn't even a shock. I do wonder how Villa have 23 points in the PL. Not sure how Lambert is going to take that side forward because he'll need a shed load of money to throw at his "project."

I like Lambert, and in more stable times I'd like him at West Ham, but he doesnt seem to have any other idea than "play youngsters, hope for best". Its like the fact he was question has made him more stubborn

Re: aston villa thread
He seems to be well on the way to alienating the local press and media also. He said that the guy that reported that he found the FA Cup a distraction admitted he regretted reporting it in the first place. I think that makes sense?!
The said guy said he only regretted publishing it because the Aston Villa press office have been giving him a hard time ever since.
My take is this: The FA Cup is a distraction to the majority of teams involved but at least stand by your convictions and admit what you said.
Apparently Wes Hoolahan is the answer to all Villa's prayers. The natives are restless.

How do Villa have 23 points in the Prem you ask?
Because Paul Lambert is a bloody good manager is the answer.
Injuries are killing Villa ATM.

Re: aston villa thread
He's not that good a manager in the premiership olly.
Yeas he did well to get you there from the lower leagues.
Injuries are not killing us, its the poor players and his bad management.
I dont mind the guy, but patience has run out with him for a lot of Villa fans.
Since MON left when we finished 6th and 2 trips to wembley in a season, it has has gone downhill.
It has come to something when staying up is seen as an achievement.
Those days of finishing as high as 6th and wembley trips are just good memories and i don't think we will see them anytime soon.
Sorry you wasted your money on todays rubbish freek.

This seems to be the thinking amongst the Villa faithful.
The good thing (for Lambert at least) is that he's not linked in anyway to Birmingham City.
Not a waste of money Westy. 15 quid for the ticket as a neutral is decent. I had a good day.

Harsh I think Westy, you're 11th, only 4 pts behind Saints (who are percieved to be having a great season), and this is without Benteke finding any form, Okore being out for the season and other injuries.
If he wasn't a Premier League manager he wouldn't have taken us to 12th in the league with players like Elliott Ward, Zak Whitbread, Steve Morison, Aaron Wilbraham, Adam Drury, Simeon Jackson etc etc.
The guy is doing a rebuilding job, the reason MON got you up there was because he was paying ridiculous fees and wages, which continued under McLeish etc (ie. the Bent transfer). Lerner doesn't want to run it like that no more, and Lambert's been tasked with turning over the squad, and rebuilding. It ain't gonna happen overnight.
Temper those expectations Villa fans. Would be an error of epic proportions to sack Lambert. Epic proportions

So our first january signing is Grant Holt.
Not exactly what I was hoping for.
Will support him and hope he does well though.
Midfielder & centre back is whats needed.
Rumours of Hoolahan haves cooled down.
Defour rumour still on going.

Just watching 1000 Villa premiership goals.
On the 92/93 season. Christ what a squad we had then.
Spink, Barrett, Staunton, McGrath, Teale.
Parker, Richardson, Townsend, Froggart,
Atkinson, Saunders, Yorke.
Nobody could touch us.

Great win indeed.
Great for the confidence to.
Tekkers back to his scoring ways, having scored in our last 3 league games.
Delph's goal(not the own goal ) cracking strike.
Been top draw this season.
Roll on the toffee men.

So Lambert is getting a new 3 year deal. Hmm.
I cant believe he does'nt give Gary Gardner a run out.
He was playing well before his injury.
Yet he plays KEA and even puts Sylla on the bench.
Crazy sh1t.

Great win yesterday. Much needed.
Good to see Tekkers back amongst the goals.
Bacuna scoring another good goal .He has done pretty well, this season.
Should be playing further up the pitch, but did well yesterday.

Well we were very poor sunday.
Man Utd away saturday, another home defeat for them last night.
We will have to defend much better, or we may take a hiding.
Improve the defending, could well take a point, or with a bit of luck, sneak a win.
Big game game at home to Fulham following saturday.

man united are begining to play better- i know it may not seem that way and that defeat may have pushed them back. but on the road they are decent still.. A draw will be a quality result- but either way you lot are safe- so its a bit of an anti climax for you from here on in

If we lose, other teams, will pick up points, so will be even closer.
Our remaining games are.
Man Utd a
Fulham h
Palace a
Saints h
Swansea a
Hull h
Spurs a
Also the rearranged Man City away game.
I think we will be safe, but it could be nervy again if teams below us are picking up points.

you are looking at 7 pts minimum there- thats 41 pts- the maths makes it impossible for 3 teams to hit that amount.
even 4 more should do it for you this year

yeah, think 4-5 points may be enough.
Looking to get points against Fulham, Palace, Hull.
Hope we beat Saints at home, do the double over them.
Eases the pain of having to pay my Saints mate £20, as they will finish higher than us.

Re: aston villa thread
westi,
One of the most promising players to run across my TV screen last season was Matt Lowton - it seemed he only had to make normal progress to be in the England conversation behind, or challenging, Glen Johnson.
What's happened to him? Is he injured, having lifestyle problems, misbehaving or just lost form? He gave Villa balance last year, something they're not really getting from the back four this season.
Perhaps you could loan him to PFC?

Re: aston villa thread
He was one of our best players last season.
Good young player. Thought he was going to play every game pretty much bar injuries.
This is the thing that annoys me about Lambert. He's playing Bacuna, who I think has had a decent first season in english football.
But he's not a right back, much better further up the field.
Must be some sort of falling out, although Lambert has denied this.
Think he would have gone on to be a better player this season, but he choses to play Bacuna.
Interesting to see if he starts in our remaining games.
Bit like Albrighton who is another young decent player.
Overlooked him for a long time, good to see him playing.
We can loan you Yacuba Sylla & KEA
How is Drennan doing?
Really hope he does well. Very good player for our U21's.
Hope to see him on the bench for the first team soon. Although he may need to be loaned out next season, or some of it.

Bacuna can be all over the place defensively - thought Lowton did a decent job there, plus offered something going forward.
Perhaps Bacuna can go centre-forward now there's an opening there. Lambert must be feeling a little queasy just now. Belgium too.
Anyway, hope Lowton gets himself back in favour. You can keep Sylla etc. Not sure about Drennan, but it's a difficult situation there for a young player coming in - good luck to him anyway.

Think you will win 2-0.
our run in after sat is
Saints h (which i'm going to) l
Swansea a d
Hull w/d/l can see any of those
Man City a l
Spurs a l.
At best can see us getting 4 points which would put us on 38, which will be enough i'm sure.

That's a pretty decent run in you have. Cant see you not staying up.
Palace may only grind out a few draws in the run in at worst- but that will also be enough.
Its all well and good keeping clean sheets - but you have to score- and its rare as hens teeth to win 2-0 for palace
Unless puncheon keeps his form up off course- But as a palace fan you dread that he will get injured within the next couple of days.

Cowans and Given have been promoted to assistant manager.
After Culverhouse and Karsa were suspended.
Cowans is a legend and Given most experienced player.
We are deep trouble, we dont need this kind of distraction.
Hopefully now we can concentrate on getting 3 points against Saints.

Much needed point saturday, althrough from what I remember of the game(was pretty peed by kick off), was a poor game.
Cant see us getting anything saturday, so will again have to rely on the like of Norwich, Fulham losing.

Re: aston villa thread
I dont:)
Think bullying.
Players not liking the way training was going.
Hope we can get something saturday, be tricky.
Sad thing is we're gonna continue to be in this position again if things dont change.
Lerner can go, has no interest.
Lamberts time is up to.
Cant see us improving under him.
