aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Re: aston villa thread
Indeed.
KEA, Sylla, Baker, Clarke, Bennett can go to.
Stay up, freshen the club in the summer and look forward to next season.
Its good to see Robinson being given a chance.
Hope to see Gary Gardner given a run out next season.
Maybe Michael Drennan to.
Certainly things need to change.

Only paper talk I know, but read that Lambert wants Hernandez, Lescott & Holtby.
Would be happy with that, but I await Lambet saying there is nothing in the stroy.
We will probably sign some more league 2 nobody's.

Im presuming that's Pablo Hernandez not Javier. Only one you have a chance at is Lescott and even that's a major push tbh

Hernandez would be crazy to go there........Lescott would be a good signing and Holtby is too workmanlike..

I think all 3 would be superb signings for Villa. Realistic and generally what Villa could do with.

Hmmm yeah you're probably right Herndandez probably is out of there range. Still if it happened wow what a signing. I do think they need a new striker next season though, someone who has a goodish record in this league. I think they should actually go after Hooper at Norwich, if they get relegated, may work for him at Villa.

Re: aston villa thread
Like I said, only paper talk.
Sadly a club like us cant attrack these type of players, who I think all 3 are good.
Lescott would probaly be the more likely.
Issue wiith Lescott is wages.
But christ we need another centre back(okore was out most of the season, so cant really judge).
An attacking midfielder and another striker. Tekkers could be out till xmas.
Bent will probably be off, as Lambert(if he is to stay) does'nt like him.

Re: aston villa thread
Well, glad the season is at an end.
Would love to finish with 3 points on sunday.
One good thing about last night, is that Lambert brought on a couple of youngsters.
Callum Robinson, aka kid n play.
Jack Grealish, who i kept an eye on when he was with Notts County,m did pretty well.
Thats what i want to see. These young guys given a chance, who will give it the 100.
Add to those two, Michael Drennan, again did pretty well at Portsmouth, scored a few goals.
Would love to see him on the bench.
Ideal game for him.

I think you're being harsh on Lambert, he's been dealt a very poor hand. Owners of Villa the problem right now rather than Lambert, always going to struggle with the level of spending Lerner is allowing. But with such a young core of a side, the team should only get better.

Re: aston villa thread
Yes there is not alot of money being splashed around.
Think he could have aimed higher with some of his signings.
Doesn't seem to inspire anyone.
Dont think he is the man to take us forward. We have gone backwards.
Yes we have had injuries.
If we lose to Spurs and Hull and WBA win, then we will finish 17th.
Also if Norwich win, then we would have only survived by 2 points.
Poor.
We shall see what happens in the summer.

the game against spurs our starting 11 cost about 17 million . says it all really . i started this thread with a little bit of hope villa would come good with Lambert in charge . i was wrong . i dont blame him completely because of the injuries but i really hope hes not in charge next season . well the club is up for sale , i just hope the buyer got plenty of dosh .

Paul Lambert is stopping on .its not surprising really , i dont think leaner would want to pay off a manager while trying to sell the club . its when the New owners come in be interesting . depends on their money and ambition whether he goes after learner gone

Re: aston villa thread
Sorry to see Albrighton leave.
Decent player. A favourite at the club, another who came through the youth system.
Obviously Lambert doesn't rate him.
Nathan Delfouneso leaves aswell.
He's been on loan the last few seasons, so no loss there.
Good luck to both though in the future.

Seems from what I'm reading you couldn't offer Albrighton the money he wants, or will get from Leicester

How much would he get a week at Leicester?
That maybe some of it, money is always a factor, but if Lambert rated him, he would have played him more often.
Combination of the 2 I would say.

The sooner Lerner sells up and we get a new owner the better.

Re: aston villa thread
Roy keane rumoured to be coming to villa . would he really want to take a assistant manager job (even tho he is with Ireland ) and why would he risk coming to a club that's up for sale . with this news i was hoping villa had been sold but yet to reveal New owners but then there a rumour saying learners dropping his asking price by 50m . just seems strange dealings for keane to want to come to a club like villa at the moment even distance himself from the celtic job

Re: aston villa thread
Keane`s a devious fellow, he's always got some motive going on. Wouldn't surprise me to see him taking this, knowing Lambert is under pressure & if there is a slow start, he`ll more than likely get sacked. Keane would then be promoted to the top job, seeing as Lerner won't want to pay up for a new manager, if the club has not been sold. Probably the easiest & quickest way for Roy to get back into EPL management, given his appalling history. Yeah, he could of taken Celtic, but even he knows Scottish football is ####.

Re: aston villa thread
I dont think he will take it.
Think he is happy enough enough with Ireland.
I would rather he concentrate on one job.
Definatly wouldnt want him to become our manager.

Thats the story.
Experience for one.
He aint gonna be any worse than Clark & Baker, who as much as I like them/support them, they are pretty poor.
Lets be serious here, we are poor, last few seasons we have been fighting to stay up.
We're not going to attract top class players.
After the gems of Bowery, Sylla, KEA, nothing is surprising.

Re: aston villa thread
yes i like the New kit . so Joe cole is in . a 32 year old ex England international with 50 odd caps . west ham released him because he only played 11 games . i dont want to sound negative but he does tend to get injured a bit plus at 32 ,a winger loses his pace . look at Ryan giggs they moved him into midfield . the big issue for me is west ham releasing him . WHY ?

Big wages and didnt fit Sam's style. He isnt and never has been a winger, Sam wanted a winger, it never worked.

IF he can stay injury free, he will be a good signing.
Has that experience, still a decent player.
Very surprised we went for him.
Probably 10 years to late though.

Keano becomes the assistant manager.
Welcome to the party Roy.
Very interesting to see how this develops.
He may kick the a55 of our players who are not doing it.
So pretty much all the squad then.

Basically, quickest way to getting the top job at Villa. Bad start for Lambert & Keane becomes manager most probably.

This may go horribly wrong.
Can see him and Lambert falling out.
If he was to become the new manager, then he would have to leave his post with Ireland.
Him and MON doing ok so far.
As a fan of both I would have preferred him at one or the other.
Need to concentrate on one team.

First pre season game.
A 3-1 win away to Mansfield.
Not to fussed about scorelines in pre seaon. Good to win, but main thing is the fitness and new players fitting in.
Bent & Gardner were amongst the goals.
Really hope Gardner gets a run out this season.
Good player.
Glad to see the Zog back to.
Worrying thing is Hutton played well. Lambert is talking him up.
Hope he doesn't start the season.
The team spirit seems to be good, but think we will be in for a long hard season again.
