aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Hutton is shocking, wouldn't surprise me to see Lambert start him. When is Benteke back, because quite a few rumours up north that we want him. I can't see it happening at all though.

Read an interesting article on Tekkers earlier.
His heartbreak on missing the world cup and how he cant wait till the new season.
Good to have the big man back.

Lowton off to M'boro? Remember people creaming themselves over Lowton & that volley, even thoughts of a possible England call-up in the future.

Think he's good enough for the prem, lower level, but still good enough. But Boro look like they are coming alive a bit more so might be a promotion push

If he does go.
Well that will mean a season of Alan 'how the fk did he become a pro footballer' Hutton.
Dear god Paul, what are you thinking.

So Hutton scored the only goal in our 1-0 win over Walsall.

So Alan Hutton saved your bacon eh? Well played Alan and hope you move to a decent side worthy of your talents - perhaps another team in La Liga or another in the Champions League.

Hutton and talent shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
He is dee readful.

Come back when you know something about football eh? Hutton has played in Champions League football, in La Liga, in international football where he has played in sides that have beaten France etc and you claim he has no talent. Err alright you stick to the hating and I'll stick to the facts.

Re: aston villa thread
Hutton wasn't that bad when he was up here for a short period on loan. But I also thought he was playing to get a move from Tottenham (I think that's where we loaned him from).
Westy, what are your thoughts on the Kieron Richardson move? Are you'a going to play him at left back? Personally I don't think he is a left back. Possibly a wing back at a push. It was Steve Bruce that played him there first.

ok, first off calm down.
Never said I hated him. Just think he is poor.
I have never seen him play well for villa.
I know nothing about football because i think a player is rubbish. If you say so.
Christ its just a matter of opinion.
How good do you think he is then.
He can't get in our team, so cant be that good.

Re: aston villa thread
First off I am calm.
Second off you haven't seen him play for Villa in how long? He fell out with the club but Lambert now offers an olive branch - that alone says what your own manager thinks of him. Your opinion that he is rubbish is natural because he is not singing the praises of Villa and why should he when he has been treated the way he has.
He is certainly better than being out-casted by the likes of Villa . Why? Well look at his career stats and clubs and competitions he has played in and that proves it.

Richardson is an interesting move.
Maybe got him a bit to late in his career.
Think he will probably play left back.
Was quite quick wasn't he?
Luna is gone on loan, so that leaves Bennett.
N'Zogbia is back from injury, so would expect him to play left wing.
Who knows what Lambert will do.

Richardson was quick. I didn't follow him much when he left but I'd assume he isn't as quick now. Age does that that to you. We played him left back simply because we had no/one to lay there and he was left footed. Good old brucey

we'll be ok this season.
Hopefully when Tekkers is back, he'll start banging the goals. very lightweight up front.
Wouldn't say Lambert is a fantastic manager. Not at this level anyway.
Hopefully he can turn it around.

It matters to me, am sure it matters to Lambert, or at least it should.
I'm not one if these fans who say a cup doesn't matter cos we're out.
Pretty fkd off.
Fair play Orient though and good luck to them.

Re: aston villa thread
Great start to the season going into the international break.
Stoke, Newcastle and Hull are the teams we need to be taking points off.
Tough september ahead, starting with a trip to Anfield.
Done well there recently, so can go with some confidence.
Glad to see the new signings settling in well, have been impressed by them.
Not getting carried away, but hope we can keep up the good start, will be tough, but the confidence is there.

7 points out of 9 can't fault that . a few hard games coming up but every game hard in the premiership . talk of cleverly sneaking in on loan . rather that then paying 8 mil for him .

Could be a masterstroke. Talented player there but looks bereft of confidence. If Lambert gets his arm around him and builds him back up he could shine.

FA obviously let this one go and did some paperwork shuffling... Cleverly gets a loan deal....
I am happy for him, he needs to play football. But if cleverley scores a winner against palace and we go down.. We are going to go full on Vincent Tan on ya.

I don't understand all the negativity around the Cleverley signing. His confidence is obviously shot but you don't get into a good Man Utd side at 20 year old without having some talent. Last season our central midfield three was Delph, Westwood and El Hamedi, it could now read Delph, Sanchez and Cleverley. As far as I am concerned that represents a massive step forward.

Palace just paid 7m for McArthur(CM)
I know there is a lot of negativity surrounding cleverly and his wages would probably not suit us. However villa could end up getting him for free.
I would rather cleverly than McArthur. A lot of big club fans like to laugh at united rejects.. To be honest there are still decent players and need to be playing.
I will make a bet that Zaha, Cleverly and Welbeck's stock will increase this time next year.

Indeed Rowley.
Westwood to.
I think our sqauad is decent.
Defence is looking better.
Hopefully Benteke can come back and bang in the goals.
We have got rid of guys like KEA, Sylla(loan) and got better players.
Also keeping Vlaar was a big plus.

nah. roy would be the fall guy if delph didn't deliver. It shows balls from a manager to play him. Roy is doing ok to spot that talent and use him in his system- a solid 7/10 from him.
The fall guys are allways the big names- the Wilshire's, the rooneys, the gerrards , or the manager.
But at the end of the day we were playing Switzerland- a team on papaer only as a good as a bottom half PL side..
ANyway back to Villa.
Well done- great start. I think Keane is the perfect bull dog... Maybe the 'bull dog' role will become a major team role in the future. Maybe Keane will never become a coach.. and will create this new role for himself and demand big money..
Imagine Pulis with Keane to back him up.. Your team would never ever concede a goal!!
