Alfie the Movie
First topic message reminder :
Is this really going to happen?
Is it really that bigger deal that a rugby player realises his gay?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-18800422
What are other fans thoughts on this as IMO it's a load of tripe?

Nigel Owens also is open about having an eating disorder! And also is open about all of it at the top of his career not half a season before packing in!

Re: Alfie the Movie
Lorddowlais to be honest I am not into reading all those autobiographies.
I prefer to admire their sporting achievements than what their life was leading up to it.
Though if Tiger woods ever write an autobiography about his double life that might make interesting reading.
Scarletspiderman and Lorddowlais I agree Nigel Owens is a better role model.

LordDowlais wrote:Look, although Hersh can be a little bit tongue in cheek sometimes I find his wind ups quite amusing most of the time, and to a certain degree he makes a good point, this film has nothing to do with the rugby involved it is just a seedy way of making millions out of the gay communities and soppy women who like this sort of thing around the world, it just happens to be that Gareth was a rugby player, it would still be made if he was a boxer or footballer. This storyb has nothing to do with how Gareth Thomas "the brave" came out as the fact that he was gay was the worst kept secret in the whole of Wales for years before he came out, what it is though is a very clever way of making millions of spodulics out of people. Oh and by the way Mickey Rourke is playing the part of Gareth Thomas, they were on the Welsh news together the other night and yes it was cringe worthy watching big each other up, I bet Mickey has never watched a game of rugby in his life. I tell you one thing though, I bet me and the misses will end up in the pictures watching this, so there you go theres a tenner before we eeven start.
What? I read the man had pulled out and that a younger actor was doing it. Oh God no! Someone stop this man from embarrassing himself and ruining a film that should be marking a huge change in our culture.
As to your point, I'm not sure that money is the primary motive. I'm sure he'd love a profit but this is a pet project of Mickey Rourke's. Studios were not exactly chasing themselves to be the first to make this film.
Why do you say this film is seedy?
Also how is making a film that millions of gay people would want to watch the same as exploiting them? Was the last film that you went to watch one that exploited straight men just because you and millions of other straight men went to watch it?

Totally agree with your statement, I have not been a big fan of Thomas since 2005 grand slam as part time captain picking up a yellow against England and allegedly helping to screw Ruddock (no pun intended).

Both Thomas and Owens should be commended for being open and honest about being Welsh.

There are meant to be a few English lads in the closet.

Re: Alfie the Movie
Well, I'd be surprised if there wasn't. Given the 'official' English playing population that gets bandied about it's probably quite a crowded closet.ScarletSpiderman wrote:Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Instead of being closet cases like Stuart Barnes.
