The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Bridgend
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Dew Drop Inn, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in Bridgend, the birthplace of ex Wales and Lions centre Dr. Jack Matthews, who has sadly passed away.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Dr Jack Matthews and his Welsh centres partner Bleddyn Williams.

Like, I’d want to install a small battery in it so that when I switch the power off at the mains it can start to shut itself down properly rather me having to start the shutdown manually. I’d like to install a small SDD to run the OS, this thing is going to be in my living room, I want it to boot very quickly. I’d like to not have to buy windows too, but I have absolutely no experience of working with linux/ubuntu etc.
Also, if at all possible I’d like to operate it with a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver remote control sure I can always dream…
Mick,
That's all very possible. SSD for the Op system is fast. Blazingly fast. Linux Unbuntu version, is now a lot easier to install. You can downlaod a pre setup version from the net. I have, mainly to learn it and stick it on my CV. It beats the shoite out of Windoze.
As for yer RC:

No, ASBO, they are PEDs. You can rave and win the TdF cleanly, just less flashily! Fewer massive attacks etc but for me that doesn't detract from the pleasure of watching or the measure of acheivement. I honestly find well-executed (and not too predictable or gamesmanshippy) defence at least as interesting as offence and don't understand, for example, why people would sometimes rather watch a million tries being scored than a team down 2 men cut out the opposition from attacking through sheer willpower and excellence.
As for the field. The reduction in drugs played its part though without insider info I can't tell who is actually guilty or not. But if Schleck etc had been there, it would have been closer. 1.16 lead on the ITT tells me Wiggins almost certainly would have won anyway though, despite Sky being a laughing stock a couple of years ago.
In overall achievements, it's behind Steve R for me but it's up there. As a one-off win it might be the best and combined with Olympic Golds, Brad can be very proud

I've installed Ubuntu 'for Windows' but I can't connect to the internet when I'm using it. So I don't use it.

Oh yeah, I saw the RC on twitter a few weeks ago, I really want one.
What shape is your media collection in Gibbo? I downloaded a program called Media Companion a while back, it looks at all of your movie files and scrapes data from the web about your stuff. So instead of having a folder with just a movie file, you’d have fanart, a list of all the actors, a description of the movie, etc. so you can then play them back using media center software (like XBMC) and they look so incredibly slick.
Here, have a gander...

None of my business but united we stand and all that. Munsty - "the girl I'd like to end up with" and her not wanting to talk to you for the duration of peak rutting season sounds like a lack of balance. I don't mean to upset you but to this old stager is seems she has you eating out of her hand. She is stringing you along as a vanity project while keeping her options precisely open. Without wanting to sound crude, have you, you know...Done the deed? You'll never get this time back you know, you have to keep that in mind. Jam tomorrow sometimes doesn't happen. Take advantage of the break, play the field, you'll know by September what you want to do. Feel free to tell me to Flip off by the way, that's what friends are for.
In the nicest possible way Glas, flip off. Nah I don't really mind but that certainly isn't an option. I was part of the decision. We made up a little before Tanzania and the time there not speaking was incredibly helpful and I know this will as well.

Thats looks really slick bud. Havent used it. Might try it thanks. I use WINAMP(Full copy) for music on my PC. Its brilliant quality and plays FLAC audio files. For my Movies on PC, I use Media Player Classic - Home Cinema.
On the Media Player Box, I use YAMJ. Can be messy to set up the library, but I cracked it.

Oh Plex looks nice T!
The main problem with those things is that it's hard to get your library into shape before you point them at it. If your files are all over the place it will be a pain to use, that's why i use Media Companion first, it scrapes all the metadata and stores it in the same folder as your file, whereas XBMC scrapes the metadata and stores it in a seperate matadata database, that might make sense in some circumstances but i like that you can view everything together to make sure all the info is there.
Had a very embarrassing moment when the scraper was looking for info on the movie "the social network" and the DVD box art that it downloaded was for a porno, now, i checked the file, it was most definitely not a porn, and all the actor info and movie description was correct, but i could not shift the porno DVD cover... Had to delete the file altogether, no harm, it's not THAT good a movie...

Plex, has all the movies you download and then it filters into genrres as far as I know. Even genres as diverse as Evil clown. The movie it had listed under this will shock you.

XBMC does that too alright, they both work in pretty much the same way, they see a file, they infer the name of the movie, they look at IMDB (for example) pull down the cover DVD art, the actors names, the rating, the blurb, the link to the YT trailer etc.
Prop, does windows start up for you or are you getting that error at the start screen? Sounds like it could be serious, but I don’t really know, I don’t work in IT

Micko, were you at the match yesterday? I watched the first half and then made the trek home from West Cork (nice weekend, goodspot of golf on the beach and everything) thinking the game was over after those two quick goals. Then I hear Dublin only win by 3 points and Meath were a bit unlucky. What happened?

Hartford, CT Thom. Won't be so bad I suppose but a bit of a pain in the backside. I have holidays booked and may have to change them depending on the exact dates.
Plus I'll miss Stags trip to the big smoke .

To fill the rugby void, maybe the Hartford Wanderers are playing? A well known rugby team like. Or the Connecticut Yankees?
Don't know if they have any major sports teams in Connecticut though.

Meath weren't "unlucky", we were 10 points up with about 15 mins to go, too our foot off the pedal, hit a few wides, then Meath got 3 or 4 points, then a goal, then straight away we went down the other end and got a couple more points. There was no panic. We weren't brilliant, but it was a decent performance, were by far the better team on the pitch and i think the scoreline flattered Meath because there was only about 5 mins in the second half where they looked like they might have a chance to come back.
A very interesting incident with Eoghan O'Gara, he scored a perfectly legit point (about a foot inside the post) and the Meath defenders start shouting "WIDE REF WIDE!!" so the umpire gives a wide, then they replay the point on the big screen and the crowd go banana's, and the ref overrules the ump. A sensible call, but he'll probably get a slap on the wrist for it.

Fair enough, I was only going on something commentators said with Meath hitting something like 10 wides in the second half. Dublin did well in the first half alright, 2 goals killed them as a contest but two good finishes.
Is complacency a problem though? You can't afford to take the foot off the pedal like that against better sides, is ist a mark of their game I think they did it against Wexford? Need to get rid of that playing better teams.

Afternoon pub.
Two new DVDs have been delivered to add to our weekend ‘Rugby Club’ viewing at the pub in Ealing; The Story of the Rugby World Cup 1995* and Rugby World Cup 2003. Both are reviews of the tournaments.
We already have DVDs of the classic 1973 Baa Baas v N.Z. and the 1974 Lions tour of S.A. (which are yet to be watched), but DVDs of other individual games seem to be thin on the ground.
* Imo 1995 was the tournament that really saw RWC cemented in peoples’ minds as a top sporting event. Mainly because of S.A.’s return to world sport and them hosting the tournament and a certain Jonah Lomu, arguably the first superstar of the professional era.

Meath hit 10 wides, Dublin hit as many if not more. I always find it strange when people (not you now) say things like “Dublin should have won that by more, but I cannot compliment Meath enough for their never say die attitude and work ethic”, one of the RTE commentators said that yesterday. Now, how exactly could Dublin have won by more if Meath showed an attitude which is beyond being complimented”. Games like this have always been no win for us, win well and “it’s only Leinster” win in a tight game and “we should have put the game away earlier, or more convincingly”.
The main thing is, we’re in the QFs and all the talk is about Kerry and Donegal this weekend. Grand so.

Nah, I’ve come to terms with RTEs anti Dublin campaign many years ago. Jason Ryan on the panel was really finding it hard to predict anything but a landslide victory for Meath. Which was nice.

Anti Dublin campaign? Come off it. RTE love everything about Dublin. Practically licking their balls last year.
Don't get me started on their general bias for Dublin in other sports and things like that.

Pro Dublin bias? With Joe Brolly, Pat Spillance, Tony Davis and Colm O'Rourke? Yeah, they love the Dubs alright. Tony Davis was positively boiling over with Dub love yesterday.

Come off it, the media loves Dublin. Davis is pretty unbiased and an absolute gent in real life. Seems to be good at his job too. Spillane loves Dublin, he seems to be more realistic about others than Kerry which is good. People would swear they beat a serious contender by 9 points. Their defence didn't look too stout either, against a better side they would have conceded more Tyrone lacked the guile and class to finish some chances off.

Hartford, CT Thom. Won't be so bad I suppose but a bit of a pain in the backside. I have holidays booked and may have to change them depending on the exact dates.
Plus I'll miss Stags trip to the big smoke .
You're equidistant from New York and Boston, which is nice, if you're like Alan Partridge.
Yeah thanks Mick, will definitely get to New york and Boston on a weekend. Every cloud I suppose.
Would rather be at Ravers though.

I think with regards to what Mick is saying, removing bias and all that, Dublin are the champions and much more is expected from you when you are in that position.
