The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Bridgend
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Dew Drop Inn, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in Bridgend, the birthplace of ex Wales and Lions centre Dr. Jack Matthews, who has sadly passed away.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Dr Jack Matthews and his Welsh centres partner Bleddyn Williams.

Hmm, Ravenhill or Manhattan?
I think that's pretty obvious, sure you can always check out a newish sport like Basketball, ice hockey or American football.
Or possibly the most insane thing ever.
Agree Munsty, Dublin are a very good side, they will be contending as much as I don't want to say it. Pro dublin bias in other sports though. Not mentioning it but it's rather obvious. What national league has 5 Dublin teams in it's top tier?

I saw some teenagers playing it while I was on holiday before (my cousin was playing in the match) and I would say it is probably one of the oughest sports to paly on the planet. Two very different disciplines, you need to have for it. Not many sports have that.

T,
Could be something to do with the fact that the population of Dublin City is 5 times larger than the next closest city?

Could be and more than likely is. Not too much wrong with it but saying there isn't a Dublin bias is a bit of a joke.

It means I have delusions of grandeur and I get to be a pompous ass, it makes people think I'm better than I am.
So it's like a badge for Cork people basically.
I do an odd spot for this place here: http://v2journal.com/

Im not sure its a "bias". Its perfectly logical that Dublin will have many top flight clubs as there is more local sponsorship and a larger population base.

The coverage they get is biased Stag. If you and others actually paid attention to the LOI you might know that. The FAI are a joke but that's not completely regards to Dublin clubs (Bohemians and Derry were convicted of more or less the same situation, Derry got relegated Bohs did not).
FAI CEO took a 10% paycut but is still getting 360k a year. A joke. Nothing to do withmy rant but a gneral observation.

But thats true of anything.
Cork hurlings get more coverage than Kerry hurlers.
Man City get more coverage than Wolves.
Leicester Tigers get more coverage than Worcester Warriors.

The majority of Dublin clubs aren't bigger than other LOI clubs therein lies the difference. They get more coverage than the likes of Sligo get but are not a better nor a bigger team.

I'm guessing that things in the ROI are Dublin-centric, just as everything in Britain is London-centric. It's just one of those things.

You serious Thom, I thought they'd have it in the Dam.
Obviously the Dubliners wouldn't be allowing that sort of thing in Cork....

Stag, I don't mind it too much in the media (annoys me when people deny it though) it annoys me when things that happen with Derry and Bohs as that was a complete joke. Bohs didn't even get a slap on the wrist. That's the only real problem I have with bias and one or two dodgy ref calls (a referee who is a former Shamrock Rovers season ticket holder should not be allowed ref Shamrock Rovers matches) not necessarily agaisnt my own club but in general.

Wouldn't Sligo Rovers get more coverage in the Sligo Champion or Weekender than any of the Dublin based teams

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Bridgend
Interesting topic.
As Stag says, the bigger centres naturally will get more attention. In Ireland's case - you have that greater sense of Dublin v the Rest, no?
In Oz, it's usually a two-way tug-of-war between the big two cities but Brisbane is catching up (in terms of pop'n, economics, etc) and we're starting to feel their emergence - they got the G20 summit even. (building works going on here at the convention centre so that makes sense... but some will still make a big issue of it.)
However, being a very egalitarian society we also tend to spread things around and try and bring Adelaide and Perth into the mix more... which is a good thing, imo... but as I said above, some people will always feel left out.

Hi Billy and all.
Congratulations Rava.
Macedonia was alright with work. Got incorrect data charges from O2 when I was on wifi with data roaming off though. £17 to claim back ( though I'm not holding my breath). O2 are rubbish.

Good man Rava, picked out where i am going to study. Had no idea it was such a broad course. Looking forward to it, i am used to writing my own PTW, TRA's, RIE's and LMRA's so it should not be too difficult

Funny you mentioned it - I was thinking of exactly the same thing yesterday. Need to continually add more skills. Huge money is being offered here - especially in WA. It's a tough environment though but you can FIFO and the big companies offer very good rosters.
You would do very well there Billy - the oil & gas projects are screaming out for people with HSE/OH&S experience and quals. I've got my White Card but maybe I will have to get a Cert IV accreditation for building projects.

We are very similar to the USA in the 1850's (in terms of population) however without their proximity to Europe... but as you know we are closer to Asia - the Pacific Century and all that. Get in here 'early' if it appeals to you Munsty - we are 'home away from home' for you good folk. We need more of you!!!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Bridgend
Afternoon all, 'tis a lovely day, and was a lovely weekend
I got to watch the Crusaders' match, and half of the 2nd playoff Saturday morning. Then RiskySports and his better half put on a great barbecue for their housewarming out in the Surrey countryside.
And yesterday I caught up with a couple of mates who're over from NZ on holiday. Plus there was the TdF, the golf and the F1
Hiya Billy,
And Rev, Macedonia hasn't made the papers yet, nice work
NZ has an Auckland vs the rest thing, dating right back to when the capital was moved to Wellington from Russell in the Bay of Islands (north of Auckland) to be more central. Nearly 1/3 of the population are in Auckland, along with a lot of the national news media so that tends to drive agendas.
