Re: Olympic Day 8 Thread
Random predictions:
Murray/Robson v Stosur/Hewitt - I think the GB pair will win this one because Stosur is shocking on grass, or at least her results indicate she is. I think they will wrap it up in 2 but will face a much tougher task against the Germans.
Williams v Sharapova - This gold is Serena's to lose. She flattened Azarenka yesterday and, frankly, Sharapova isn't and, in my view, will never be the player she was regardless of her results this year. If Serena can heap pressure on Sharapova's serve the double faults will flow and Serena will claim the 1 prize that has eluded her.

Hopefully if Serena does win, some people might start appreciating that she is some player and will be badly missed when she finally retires

I think she's the GOAT of women's tennis. If not for injuries I think she'd be up there with Steffi in terms of majors won. When you say her father, do you mean that thing that sits in her box with the hair?
Anyone watching the mixed doubles? It's great viewing.

4-2 in Super TB. 5-2 now. 5-5. Nice comeback. Sam could not handle the volley at the net.

Yes! Well done Murray and Robson. Kudos to Hewitt, I thought in the last 2 sets he was excellent. Lisicki and Kas will be a close match if Lisicki serves bombs.

The ball girl running down the court was hilarious. Reminded me of the Troicki FO match where the ball boy ran on court during the middle of the rally.

Instead of a super TB, a third set would have been better, even if it had a regular TB at the end.

I agree with that, although if someone is entering singles + both doubles then it may be too many matches/sets in 1 week.

Lisicki is pretty good on grass, TSJ. I think they can beat Team GB.
BTW, Sky Italia are showing Murray-Djokovic.

That is definitely the negative aspect.

I've seen Lisicki v Sharapova 3 times on grass now. If Lisicki serves her 120mph serves they will be very hard to stop. I've never heard of Kas though. Is he any good?

Handing Serena the title before any match is played would be more time effective. Amazingly weak opposition.

Kas and Peya (AUT) play ATP doubles together. It is a good team.
Come on Maria, fight. One-sided matches are the worst. 5-0.

Re: Olympic Day 8 Thread
Serena has made a mockery of the women's game throughout this tournament. Former World Number 1 Jankovic beaten 6-3 6-1, former world number 2 Zvonareva beaten 6-0 6-1, former World Number 1 Wozniacki beaten 6-0 6-3, Current World Number 1 beaten 6-1 6-2.
However, as both Azarenka and Sharapova are irritating screechers, I'm delighted for Serena.

Jankovic is only semi playing tennis these days because of her university duties and is still a much more difficult opponent for Serena than Maria and Azarenka were!

Is she? I wondered where she's been half the time. Aggy Radwanska's sister Urszula gave Serena her toughest test so far (6-3 6-2 I think).

When Maria's chance to break disappeared in the fourth game of the second set, I knew there was only going to be one winner in this final. I feel bad for Maria. She could only manage one game in this final.

I know that people will still question tennis in the Olympics, but one of my moments on the day so far is the joy of Julien Benneteau. A relative journeyman pro with a few runner-up trophies, but now he'll be able to show his grandkids an Olympic Bronze medal.

Obviously I hope the Germans lose, but I love the fact that Lisicki always plays with a smile on her face.

I echo that. Lisicki is a great player to watch because she's always happy and she's not a bad player either!!
Good start from GB, I liked how Robson was getting her 1st serves in and also out hitting Kas on a point.

Murray struggles with returns against Lisicki, and Liscicki on the other hand powers her returns against Murray's serve.

Robson only haev energy to play 1 gr8 set, she plays blinder in the 1st set and now completely looks exhausted, may be something to do with wind as well.

This is not the 1st set rite? so don't blame Robson for losing her serve
and yes Lisicki is gorgeous.

Yeah I've got a big crush on Lisicki.
Stunning.
I'd like her even more if she made 12 unforced errors in a row.

And quite a few others
Really. Such is the poor state of the womens game, you can actually see Robson having a career as good as her mixed doubles partner
Another couple of years and the Williams sisters will finally be no more. Kim's already gone. Meanwhile Wozza decides to go down the Ana Ivanovic route and become a golfers 'wife'
We have to hope and pray that the current batch of those below 21 can give us something to grasp our attention and soon - before the womens game becomes as irrelevant as women's football

He's extended his lead whatever, and is certain to be #1 into Ciniciatti now. In fact it takes a weird set of events for him not to be #1 at the US Open.CAS wrote:does Roger keep his ranking regardless of what happens tomorrow? Pretty sure he does
